Hi All,

I just had to post at least once to share that my trouble with cysts has been completely remedied by removing citrus from my diet. This includes citric acid, which is a very common preservative and additive in many foods. I actually came across a post on this site about a year ago where someone casually mentioned that they believed there was a link between eating citrus and breaking out. At the time I was getting deep big sore spots on my chin and didn't have a clue why. I used to LOVE grapefruit juice and thought I was doing something healthy for myself by drinking it. After reading that post, I stopped drinking and eating anything citrus, and I DO NOT break out like that anymore. Please try it! I've had problems since I was young (I'm 33 now) and went through everything imaginable. Accutane, too. Changes to my diet have been the biggest success story for me. Birth control pills helped too, but I no longer take those. I just do not eat citrus, dairy or gluten...however, I have seen no link personally to my skin from gluten. Just citrus. Also, I seem to generally improve with fewer clogged pores when I avoid things that have been fortified with B vitamins. B vitamins seem to increase oil production for me. But this is a trial and error thing. Please don't discount what modifying your diet can do. It's frustrating and takes time but I truly believe that if would have started this sooner, I would have had many more "clear" years.

Thanks for reading.

Yes, I most certainly have seen this before. However; minute maid concentrate out of the corner stores, no issue UNLESS the times I drank it I didn't have some other food in my body mixing with it. It's very confusing, but we'll get to the bottom of this.

I don't eat citrus because it causes migraines for me, but I still get acne and cysts. :(

I sure hope citrus isn't one of the causes of my acne. I absolutely love it. I developed a sudden allergy to the oil on the skin of certain citrus fruits a few years ago. Not all of them though luckily for me.

I think im allergic to citric acid. Everytime I drink orange juice my throat starts to burn, I thought it was normal. In the time without orange juice my red marks and acne have faded out remarkably!

It saddens me a bit that I found out this just recently, but better late than never should I say!

Hi All, I'm a newcomer to this site and beyond being interested to read what's out there these days for acne sufferers ( I have been mostly clear for some years after sorting out what foods to avoid and what I can still enjoy in moderation, and predominantly eating well-balanced meals), I can say that the occasional cystic acne I still get would sadly be attributed to eating citrus. I too love citrus and the good news for me, don't know about others as sure our tolerances differ, I can use lemons and limes with my food no problem. Not so for oranges in any form. Occasionally I have been eating orange with fennel salad-yum! Within hours I can breakout. And almost immediately parts of my skin, including my face will come out in welt like marks. These are not painful and do not last very long.

Citrus cyst club.

What I wonder is what changed from the times I could eat oranges, like during childhood, versus now, where I get cysts within the day. I recently discovered through the elimination diet I am on that eggs also give me cysts. I haven't tried duck eggs, but I can have things like lime and lemon without breaking out.

There was a recent study in the news about children with food allergies who were given really small amounts over a long period of time, and some did not react to the food anymore.

Yeah but we're they looking for only immediate type IgE responses? Or also the less immediate responses involving other antibodies or other inflammatory responses.
