Hi everyone,

This is the first time ever posting, but have been coming to acne.org for a couple of years now for advice. I wanted to write about my success story of clearing my acne and my journey with scarring.

I developed acne when I was 20 years old. I had a feeling I may because of acne on my dad's side of the family. Before that, I really had no issues with it. From 20 to 23, I dealt with blackheads, whiteheads, cystic, everything pretty much. All the acne I got seemed to be only on my cheeks and occasionally on my chin.

Looking back now, I can say confidently that I did not take care of my skin at all. I don't know whether it was not knowing much about proper skincare, or just ignoring it, but I really did not take good care of it. I would pick at my acne, I would use unhealthy makeup to cover everything up, I would sleep with makeup on, etc. I figured makeup could go cover everything up and I could ignore what was going on underneath.

I am not really sure what my turning point was, but I just remember breaking down and making a dermatologist appointment that day. At first, she had me set to start taking accutane. I ended up being on topical medication, however, I still continued to wear awful makeup and pick at my acne.

To make a long story short, I moved to North Carolina 2 years ago and have a new dermatologist. We talked about accutane for an hour, and I just decided against it. She told me to simplify my routine, look into "healthy" makeup, and she prescribed Minocycline.

I have been taking minocycline for two years now, and I can confidently say it has cleared my acne. I do have occasional hormonal breakout, but that's it. I also completely changed my routine and simplified it completely. I stay away from many chemicals. I also switched over to paraben free organic makeup.

I have been suffering from some rolling scars where all my acne was on the left side of my face. I am dermarolling and I just started doing chemical peels last night. They have gone away about 50%. Just need to be patient!

Just wanted to share my story with everyone!

Congratulations!
Just wondering if you've had to up the dosage on the Minocycline over the 2 year period and what kind of peel you started with last night. Keep us posted on the results!
