I've been taking doxcycline for almost 3 months (2 doses of 100 mg a day), and even though my face has cleared up somewhat, I've noticed within the past week that my skin has become very oily. I've always had mildly oily skin, but never anything this bad. Has doxycycline done this for anyone else? Should I keep taking it in hopes that the oiliness will pass? It's almost more difficult to deal with the excessive oil than it was to cover up my moderate acne.

doxycycline and other antibiotics don't affect how oily your skin gets because all they do is target the acne bacteria....perhaps your skin is clearing so much that you're noticing how oily your skin is under it? I think that's how I felt when I was taking antibiotics alone...my skin was clear, but incredibly drenched in oil...

So I stopped taking the doxcycline a few days ago, and the oiliness is definitely going away - my skin is almost completely back to normal, just a little excess oil around my nose. It's so strange, because I can't seem to find much information online about this. Maybe like you said my skin was just purging alot. Now I just have to cross my fingers that I don't start having big breakouts again.
