30 DAY NO PICKING CHALLENGE

im ready to beat this :) and i need all the support i can get. who here wants to try to go 30 days without picking with me? its a start :) its almost summer and i just want to get over this, even though i know it wont be easy. heck, it might be the hardest thing ive done in my entire life. come on you guys, lets do this together! we all need support!


Night:

-Remove eye makeup w/ sunflower/jojoba/olive oil

-10 second gentle cleanse with Aveda Outer Peace Foaming Cleanser

-Differin

-1% Clindamycin phosphate lotion

-Doxycycline 100mg (down to once a day!)

Morning:

-Cleanse with Aveda

-1% Clindamycin phosphate lotion

-Aveeno Spf 30

I also take a multivitamin, fish oil, and zinc.

I'll do it with you. Totally. I actually just started my own "No More Picking" thing about 3 days ago.. I'm following the article that Dan linked to that said to document the behavior whenever you do it to figure out the root causes.

I find I rest my face on my hands a lot when I'm at work on the computer, because it only takes 1 hand to read emails, but I don't do it at all when I'm at home because I use both hands to type. I also try to pick when people at work start stressing me out - without even realizing it until now! I never felt stressed but I realized that I was deep down inside and it was manifesting itself in a picking behavior.

If I over scrutinize in the mirror I start mentally freaking out and want to pick extremely badly, so I try to not do that. You have to do everything you can to not trigger the behavior.

Of course I'm not saying it's easy. It's been friggin' hard. You have to be self-aware all the time.

We're both young and can still kick this habit right in the rear end :)

Hi, I'm Kaila.

I do the DKR with Cetaphil cleanser once a day (usually at night) and 1/2 dose BP. Sometimes I use AHA+ in addition to moisturizer but not much anymore. 100% clear for months and months! (Keep in mind that when I started, I needed to do the full-blown Regimen for 3 months before I could start cutting back)

yay thanks so much for replying! :D ive been on this site for a few years, trying to quit. no avail. and i know its gonna be hard but worth it. i need to crush skin picking so i can live my life. my skin looks like a war zone right now :(

stress is definetly the trigger for me. i get stressed and overwhelmed and dont know how to cope so i take it out on my skin. every time i think to myself "stop while you still can" but i just CANT stop.

yeah, i feel like im in some crazy picking frenzy that i cant control when i have the urge to pick. i try to take deep breaths and close my eyes in those moments but... well, you know how hard it is to stop.

im just glad we have this site to get support and advice when no one else understands :) yes, we will kick skin picking in the butt! :D

I'm on day 6 at the moment. I noticed that by chance, I hadn't picked for 3 days in a row and things were looking better as a result, so I figured I'd try and keep going. 3 days later, still haven't picked.

Trying not to focus on it or make a big deal out of it, just taking things as they come. I've picked on pretty much a daily basis for 13 years so 6 days without seems like forever! :lol:

I'll keep going, see how I get on. Best of luck to you! :)

I'm going to try this too. Going to be especially hard with scab-like pimples under my make up :(


- No gluten, no soy, no processed food, no sugar

- Yes to raw dairy products, grass fed meat, plenty of vegetables and some fruit

- Probiotics and good quality chlorella supplements when I'm not broke!

- Plenty of sunshine and positive energy

My skin hasn't looked this good in years- I'm not obsessed about my skin anymore, I am therefore no longer addicted to acne.org smile.png - do message me if you need any advice!

megan dude, plz whenever theres stress wear gloves or somthing (thats what i do at least, n it helps for me), u gotta do this this time (think summer, good skin etc). also maybe print out pic of when uve picked face badly (only if u have such pic already, no need to pick for making such pic ofc, yknow :crazy:) and look at it as soon as u get urge? i just rly hope u do it, this time. will be hoping for u!

Gloves have never really worked for me. I always end up taking them off cuz they annoy me...:/ plus its super hot here. And thanks, im really hoping things will work out this time:)

do u ever pick unawarely megan? like fe ud sit at pc and 1 hand just tries to pick at face? :/

if u do so, then consider gloves tho, iknow its annoying, it was for me too at start, but then i just put up with it for skins sake bcz personally me tend to pick unawarely/automatically the worst and if ur like that too then gloves even tho annoying can help tho. (u dont have to wear them on both hands anywayz, so with the free hand u can do wtv u need to)

I'd kind of lost track but I've just looked back at when I last posted and that makes today day 9.

I've nothing to pick anyway even if I wanted to because I left it alone and it's cleared up a treat, and I'm only a thrid of the way there. Can happily keep going, just hope my skin keeps going well too! :D

I'm gonna go for it. I just started my summer break (if you can call it that since I'll be working most of the time =P), so it's a good starting point.

Now, I hardly have any active acne, and I've actually more or less managed to stop messing up my face. Last December I got a cluster of red marks from picking, which have yet to fade, and that's been an important reminder. So my problem isn't really face picking, but picking at mosquito bites etc, mainly on my legs. Over the years, this has caused some marks which I don't want to make any worse. I tend to get addicted to picking at bites, so it just gets worse and worse.

This year, I'm going to resist - because I fear that if I do get addicted again, I will start to "fix" my face as well.

ive been tempted to pick, but havent for the most part. i keep scanning my skin for spots, which really has to stop!! :o i used this crappy rotating facial brush that completely f'ed up my skin and made it blotchy and red and as a result i broke out pretty bad :( i have some big nasty spots but i never really bother messing with those anymore. its the clogged pores and blackheads that get to me :(

days 4 & 5: didnt pick

almost to a week!

must. not. pick. i have finals this week so things are pretty crazy stressful, but im just gonna tell myself to just let it go and NOT PICK.

and good luck SweDan! :D this is my "summer resolution" too. lets do this! lets be pick free for once and for all ;)

Not sure what day I'm on, probably 5-ish. We'll go with that. Super stressed the past week, personal and work-related stress attacking me like mosquitos... Gaack!

Only picked one day though. And I was very distraught about it. I'm still trying hard though. The other days I held back. It really is so difficult! I mean there are so many bad habits to have that act as a reaction to stress, why aren't there any good ones?

Can anyone think of any good ones?

its hard not to pick but im going to try this challenge with you. I just picked at three this morning and they all bled and look red and inflammed. I need to stop. I realixze i do this when i stand too long in front the mirror. I need to stop before i end up ruinig my entire face more that what it already is. Ialso have a prob with rubbing my face. I hate dry skin, so i rub to try and get it off.that in turn irritates my skin and cause more pimples.. I need help

@ifeelugly, I'm having the same problem with the dryness actually. I must have rubbed my face for 10 minutes today trying to get the dead skin off - I moisturized and it made that dead skin look darker so it was more noticeable, like I have freckles.. which I totally don't. Weird! I really need to do a thing to stop rubbing the dead skin too :doubt:

Cheer up though. It will get better. As long as we stop picking, haha. We're only making the problem worse. The acne medication can't heal us if we keep making it worse.

good luck ifeelugly!! (im sure you are NOT ugly!) i know how you feel:( its the worst when you relapse.

i think its best to target the stress, one of the main contributing factors. like cocobo said, you need to develop better ways to deal with stress, instead of bad ones (picking). unfortunately none have really worked for me! anyone have good methods?

day 7: wooo a week! havent picked so far tonight (5:32 pm)

3 more weeks till my goal:D im doing better than expected. (not saying its been easy)

3 days: nothing to report. I've been finding myself randomly trying to pick something, but I've managed to stop myself. Popular targets are my elbows for some reason, I've been picking them for years due to stress.

Yesterday I sat in a swarm of mosquitos for a few hours, so I guess the real challenge starts now for me, haha!

As for stress, I've only found one substitute to picking, but it's possibly not the best one as it might annoy others. In the past, I've gone from biting my nails to picking and biting the skin around them, so I figured I need to keep my fingers busy. What I do now is to use my fingers to play "air drums" to whatever song comes to mind. I have zero talent for drumming, but it relaxes me and seems to be doing the trick.

Hang in there everyone, I'm sure we can get through this!

You're right, it was a horrible addiction but if that was possible to quit, then so should this. I'm very determined, but sometimes I pick subconsciously so I really need to stay alert.

Think I'm on day 13. Something like that. All I know is, nearly 2 weeks without picking. Awesome.

For the whole time I've had acne, which is nearly half my life, I don't think I've ever gone 2 hours without picking or at least looking for something to pick, never mind 2 weeks! :D

I guess it helps that my skin just happens to have cleared up nicely and in that time I've only had a couple of spots I could have picked. But, I could have still gone looking for things to pick, or spent my time in front of the mirror just for the sake of it, so more than anything I'm pleased to be breaking those habits. To be honest, it's not really will power, as I don't suppose I have much of that, but I just decided I couldn't be bothered with it anymore. I guess obsessing gets a bit tiring after 13 years! :lol:
