Scarring on the upper body (Follicular Macular Atrophy)

14 posts in this topic

Hi

I have a type of scarring on the chest and upper back/shoulders called Follicular Macular Atrophy or perifollicular elastolysis. It looks like raised white bumps/spots on the skin. I've read a lot about it online, but there doesn't seem to be much information regarding treatment. I've had it for over a year so it's clearly not going away even though it might have improved a little.

As I understand it's related to decreased collagen and I really started to notice it after my accutane course. Can moisturising the area help to increase collagen production? And what do you guys think in regards to treatment or this?

I've also done a little bit of reading on the topic. I'm researching using a pumice stone to either gently exfoliate the area, or using a harsher technique to flatten out the skin. I'd also be very interested in figuring out if there is a legitimate treatment for this condition.

gms228 Whaaaaat?

I heard that using a pumice stone so I tried starting yesterday. I might have gotten a little too excited though - now I have this bruise on my shoulder which really hurts..

I think it might be able to improve the scars and I'm going to continue, though no try to rub it all of in one time again!

Have any of you tried this?

So far meddling has not done much, but the bumps have definitely spread :(

Well I have abraded them down, needled, and am starting to use acid, but puzzlingly they keep coming back which is very very annoying. Anyone else try anything?
