I´m so annoyed! I seem to have quite tough skin or something, because the one layer 15% TCA peel I did on sunday is only flaking, not actually peeling. It´s the end of day 5, and the vast majority of dead skin is still sitting firmly on my skin.
And while I did the peel, my skin didn´t frost. I know frosting doesn´t happen for anyone and it doesn´t mean that it didn´t work...but at 15% strength I was definitely expecting some frosted areas!

Did anyone else have a similar experience? I plan on doing 3 layers next time, does that sound like a good idea?

And just in case anybody wanted to ask: my skin was prepped by regular Retin-A use and occasional light glycolic peels. And, I cleansed my skin with alcohol before the TCA peel, so I did everything right

That's normal. You only get frosting with higher strengths or multiple layers. It's not wise to immediately jump to more than one layer with just one 15% peel. Do one more one layer 15%, then wait a few months, do a two layer.

Peeling isn't going to happen with a 15%. Flaking, yes. Peeling, no. Unless the pH is way off, that is.

thanks for the reply. I usually always follow the instructions (meaning, I only go up one layer at a time if I want a stronger peel), but I was just so annoyed that it looks like I will have dead skin sitting on my face for like 10 days post peel.

But I´ll be a good girl and do a 2 layer peel next time ;-)

UPDATE:

I just did a 2-layer 15% peel 2 days ago. Holy moly, what a difference one extra layer can make! It burnt a lot more, I frosted on both cheeks and was pink/red for a few hours afterwards, which didn´t happen with the one layer-peel. I think 2 layers is enough for me though, so I´ll stick with that for next time.

Prep:
I used a 10% glycolic serum every single night before the peel...and used Retin-A the night before the peel, which I believe caused the peel to go a bit deeper too (with the previous peel, I discontinued Retin-A a week prior). Next time I will use Retin-A 2 nights before the peel though, not the night before.

Flaking/peeling:
last time it took quite a long time before I even started to flake, but this time I´m already peeling (not flaking) in one spot on my chin, and it´s only day 2 after the peel! Also, the rest of my face was already slightly crepey looking on day 1, which is much sooner than after my previous peel.

yeah dont be worried....tca wouldnt usually cause a frosting at that concentration. i used 25% as a peel once and it never frosted either. i've found it definitely does at 50% and 100%, but anything below that would be a good guess smile.gif

Is it 3-4 layers on the whole face? is it like a complex peel or are you guys talking about cross? eusa_think.gif

Peels, not CROSS. Whole face peels.
