Bump for this regimen. I am going by this rule strictly now to see what will happen. It's free, so why not. By as an added effect, I will also properly chew all my food till it has equal consistency. I have good faith in this practice, because of health reasons. Not too sure if it will clear up acne as it all depends on if you are actually getting all your nutrients through your food so you can make the full potential of it. Because if you eat crap and it digests 100% it will backfire on you, but if you eat well and it digests in full, you should reap more benefits. So I will try this out.

1 hour after eating: water with supps.
No water 30 minutes before eating.
Chew food till it's of equal consistency.

I started last night, now it's been about 12 hours.

What regimen, the don't drink anything with a meal?

The sensible regimen of allowing your food to properly digest by

1) chewing fully so your body can absorb the most of what you eat, as opposed to just chewing enough to swallow, and
2) not diluting your digestive system, by drinking water, till you've given your system a full chance to do it's job to the highest efficiency.

It's just a logical practice that I never thought much of, so it's not really a regimen. It's a no brainer for me. It's free, doesn't take any more time for me, and it has plenty of benefits. smile.gif

I thought it is better to take fish supplements with food? you put that you will take them with water? I thought just swallowing the fish supplements in middle of eating is better way? eusa_shifty.gif

Oh it is, the fat in your food will help absorption. You can take it right after, a couple of sips won't matter. eusa_dance.gif

I sent out a FAQ question to various companies and asked how much food effects absorption. They all responded in a similar fashion. Since each pill does have half it's weight in sat fat, it's there to assist absorption as food isn't 100% necessary. It's a tricky situation, as one could theoretically could do both. The best option, would be liquid fish oil as it requires no water. So you can do it either way, it shouldn't matter much if you drink a bit of water after. I am doing it this way so I won't have any doubts if it doesn't work as well as I am expecting.

Cool? =)

It makes sense that it could be a digestive enzyme issue. Before i read this, I had started taking an enzyme supplement, and it definitely helped my acne clear up a lot..better than it's been in years. So I wonder..if I avoid drinking liquids with meals, AND take the enzyme supplement, would that be even better? I also have started a high protein diet which is helping a lot. So all total, it's looking like my regimen will be:

Lots of protein,
No drinks with meals, and
Enzyme supplements

I'll start this right away and see if my skin gets even better. I'm glad I came across this! smile.gif

I just wanted to clarify and mention that I've been testing this out and it wasn't the case for me. My digestive system was fine as well. So just wanted to follow up with this thread. I now eat how I wish and I am fine. I found out what my real issue actually was.

I just found this article:
http://www.scdiet.or...ves/scd001.html
It's about how to improve protein digestion. Number one on the list is to eat and drink separately.

It's really starting to look to me like protein digestion is the big issue with acne. Not for absolutely everyone, obviously, but I'm starting to see this subject of protein come up in relation to acne a lot more lately. This article also mentions a protein digestive enzyme, "protease" helps people with inflammation and skin problems. Maybe that's why my enzyme supplement has been helping me. I'm gonna go look for an enzyme supplement that focuses on protease.

Today is my first day trying not to drink with my meals. It's harder than I thought it would be, I get so thirsty! lol Anyway, I will persevere.

This article also answers the "What about soup?" question. (answer: No soup)

It also says to eat smaller meals so the acid in your stomach can be more concentrated for each meal. I guess it's not only water that can dilute the digestive enzymes, too much food can too.

Don't forget that she/he is eating healthy, so that's also a part of the 'whole picture". I'll definitely add this to my daily regimen. I do believe that drinking during meals has become habituated due to the "on the go/fast paced" modern lifestyle. I know that a lot of people don't even chew their food properly and use water during meals to help swallow food (as if they were pills). If you guys are interested in proper digestion as aid for bettering your skin (from the inside out), I suggest taking a look into liver and colon flushes. I have not been able to find any scientific statistics of autopsy reports; through word of mouth I've heard that an autopsy was performed on a man with a beer belly and they found 40lbs of feces. GROSS. Make sure to eat tons of fiber so your colon properly scrapes out your bowel movement!

For me it's not really the fast lifesyle but more because it get extremely thirsty if I don't drink for some reason I get really thirsty after a meal.

So I guess it varies like most things for acne from person to person. What was your issue?

For me it wasn't an issue of improper digestion or mal absorption, but plain and simple: a lack of adequate nutrition. I still feel wheat is a trigger for me so I am keeping wheat products aside for now.

Most of us will want to find problems with ourselves instead of realize we are lacking essential vitamins and minerals needed for properly skin function too. So we look to things like bad absorption etc.

But again, it could be that some people do have problems with digestion alone, and the rest follows through.

So the moral is, we all have so many different causes and what works for one person will not work for others. I wish this had worked for me, and I wish it works for others because this would be the easy way smile.gif

Yup I have to admit same here I know I probably lack nutrients, it's probably because I eat a whole variety of things and it's different everyday.

That's interesting because a lack of enough digestive enzymes can cause a lack of adequate nutrition. If your food isn't being digested, you can't absorb the nutrients. I had a hard time keeping up the drinking and eating separately thing, but I take digestive enzymes as a supplement, and it's really helped a lot!

You are correct, it was my mistake smile.gif. After adding in all my essential nutrients, nothing still happened and my weight did not fluctuate. UNTIL I took your advice and took digestive enzymes. It's too soon to speak (it's only been 3 days I think), but I started putting on weight immediately and things are changing. It may be just a coincidence so that is why I say it is too soon to speak, but thank GOD I tried them! eusa_pray.gif

I hope the success continues and it is not a coincidence at all

Oh, I'm so glad it seems like it's working! I know how frustrating is it to be chronically underweight and not know how to fix it. I even tried just living on fast food, and even that didn't do it! lol I know it's a bad idea, but when you've tried everything else and nothing worked, you're willing to try some "unorthodox" methods...lol

Anyways, good luck! And keep us all posted! smile.gif

Yeah I believe your schedule. I was studying ayruveda and it says that drinking water before or up to two to three hours after eating will dilute the digestive enzymes in your stomach and make digestion harder. I will try this, it sounds interesting. Ghee helps digestion too. I just started on that.

QUOTE(sadcaroline @ Jul 20 2004, 02:31 PM) View Post
ok everyone, i have stumbled upon something amazing recently, so bear with me, its kind of a long story. i think some of you have read my posts, im a 20 year old female whos been suffering with bad acne for almost 10 years. i have been on anti biotics for almost 10 years as well, which turned into a nightmare.. eventually i became immune to most anti biotics, as ive been on most all of them for acne, an each time i would attempt to go off the anti biotics the acne (that i should have genetically grown out of, as my brother an dad did) got majorly worse. what once was just huge white heads became horribly painful cystic welts under my skin, on top of the huge whiteheads that always scar on me. so basically, i have been on anti biotics for ages, and even on the anti biotics, my acne was so chronic it would never clear me totally. i have tried spiro, which worked beautifully, as my acne is very hormonal.. (my break outs are most severe on the mid/lower cheek areas) but due to hairloss issues, i had to stop spiro, and i cant take b5 or spiro or anything that blocks androgens, which is horrible.. because they worked so well. I have tried MANY things for my acne over the years, including most anti biotics(mino tetra erythra keflex bactrim). i have used ALL of the topicals, retinoids, etc, with best results coming from tazorac. Ok fast foward to now, about 2 weeks ago i read on this forum about 'red' who had used an awesome homeopathic pill for his acne/ oilyness. homeopathy is safe, so for some unknown reason, i decided to take a leap of faith and GO OFF my anti biotics for a week to try this stuff out, in hope to finally find a safe alternative to antis. Well needless to say, 4 days into the treatment, it didnt work for me (but i beleive in homeopathy).. an my face was horribly oily and the cysts were beginning to come up. So i stopped the homeopathy, and decided i would try my best to find a natural treatment for my acne. so i began taking lots of essential fatty acids.. in the form of evening prim rose oil an flaxseed oil... these are good for acne.. but cant handle scarring cysts/ whiteheads like i have.. so i also drastically changed my diet as well... and then *THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART* lol i remembered something i read late one night while doing research on my hair. I was reading a hair loss forum, specifically a thread about 'folliculitis' now i dont even have folliculitis, so i dont even know why the heck i was reading it. the thread was about natural ways to treat folliculitus, and what had helped people. (folliculitis is alot like acne, its inflamed pimples on the hair follicles, usually from hormones). So i read about this woman, who claimed she cleared hers 100%! (yea right i thought) she claimed that an old jewish woman told her TO NOT DRINK ANYTHING RIGHT BEFORE YOU EAT, AND NOT DRINK ANYTHING FOR A WHILE AFTER YOU EAT. she stated at the end of her post that it would help kids with acne.. so i laughed, thinking to myself how cruel she must be.. to lead people on with acne, because this was obviously WAY too easy. But at that point, i was getting 5-6 new cysts everyday, nothing was holding it back, so i thoguht 'what the hell? ill try it for a few days' i had found this information about 2 months ago.. an tried what she recommended in the post, she said to not drink anything 10 min before you eat, not drink anything during the meal, and not drink anything for an hour after you eat. i tried this for a day or 2, didnt notice a change.. so i never tried it again. Now, last thursday, i decided that i was going to try this, STRICTLY. When i woke up that morning, i ate something healthy, and did not drink anything for 2 HOURS after i ate, and i would make sure i had not drunk anything for 2 HOURS BEFORE i ate. Basically i put myself on a schedule. (ie: wake up at 8am and eat, drink loads of fresh water at 10 am, eat again at 12, drink loads of water at 2, eat again at 4, drink loads of water at 6, eat again at 8, loads of water at 10 ) the lady i read about said that you would notice results in 2 days.. SHE WAS RIGHT. by the end of the second day, i looked at my skin, an noticed i DID NOT GET ANY NEW PIMPLES ALL DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! since then.. it has ONLY GOTTEN BETTER.. I HAVE GOTTEN NO NEW PIMPLES SINCE SATURDAY NIGHT.. the pimples i have are drying up, and NOTHING IS COMING BACK.. i follow the diet/ drinking schdule RELIGIOUSLY! an i am getting NO MORE ACNE. in about 3 or so days my face will be about 100% clear of acne.. this has been a MIRACLE !!!!!! PLEASE anyone with acne, TRY THIS,, i have NEVER seen anything like it.. i have GONE OFF ALL supplements, vitamins an medications !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALL i do is follow my diet an drinking scedule, an honestly i dont think the diet has ANYTHING to do with it. its all about NOT DRINKING ANYTIME NEAR THE TIME YOU EAT.. my acne was almost SEVERE, and it leaves SCARS. and now it is almost completely GONE in 5 DAYS!!!!!!!! sorry for all the punctuation.. lol.. but this is a HUGE thing for me.. i use NO topicals. (except BP to continue healing the last few pimples i have left) please everyone.. give this a try, its UNBELIVABLE..i am going to email the woman that wrote the message soon.. and THANK HER for writing about this, how i stumbled across it i will never know, maybe god was looking over me that night smile.gif so please give this a shot folks, especially you girls who have hormonal acne!! i really hope this helps you guys, as it has me. if you have ANY questions.. please PM me anytime!!

Heres what i Do
-Wake up an eat at 8 (grilled chicken an a veggie) drink NOTHING
-drink NOTHING until 10 am, drink as much as you can, preferabbly water!! (i usually drink 4 large glasses, and do NOT eat ANYTHING until 12!!!)
- i eat again at 12 (salmon with a salad) drink NOTHING (drink nothing again until 2!)
-at 2 i drink another 4 glasses of water (i got one of those PUR water filters on my kitchen faucets, its AWESOME) eat nothing until 4!
-at 4 eat something.. smoked turkey an a veggie or salad (again drink NOTHING until 6)
-at 6 drink another 4 glasses of water (again no eating anything til 8)
- at 8 you can eat again (when i say eat, it doesnt have to be a full meal, it can be a simple snack, JUST DONT DRINK NEAR THE TIME YOU EAT)
-at 10 drink another 4 glasses of water.. so basically thats what i do.. eat first thing.. drink 2 hours later, eat again, drink 2 hours later.

THIS HAS WORKED AMAZING FOR ME!!! but you have to be STRICT. i am a firm beleiver in a healthy diet, but honestly i dont think this has anything to do with diet, so continue eating what you want, just schedule when you are going to eat or drink, if you have to write it down, i do smile.gif now if you can.. try to drink water..it helps alot..

what im taking
- NOTHING!!!! smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif

what i use on my face
- wash with panoxyl bp soap once a day an dab BP on the few pimples i have left

thats all i do.. if you guys are very strict about this.. i think you should notice that you arent breaking out anymore by maximum 4-5 days. this treatment doesnt seem to make them go away faster, BUT IT KEEPS NEW ONES FROM COMING.. i have about 6 tiny pimples left, that are going away fast, i have had one new pimple since saturday. please try this everyone.!!!

good luck!!!
caroline

So how long did this take to start working? I've tried not drinking anything for 10 minutes before or after. So is it not drink anything 10 minutes before and 2 HOURS after? It's a lot harder than I thought. SO I have to go on a diet too? Can u explain a little more on the diet please? Thank u so much!!

Well she hasn't been on since march, so i don't think your gonna get an answer. The only thing the drinking water without meals really helps is with your digestion. And getting enough water every day also helps. I tend not to drink 30 minutes before meals, and an hour afterwards but that's just seems to suit me and i don't stick to it religiously. I don't think you have to go on a diet, but if you want to improve your digestion you can just do some basic things, like avoid white bread, choose whole grain products. Avoid/reduce caffeine (coffee, tea, sofa), fruit juice, moldy foods (peanuts, peanut butters, mushrooms etc), fermented products (alcohol). Probiotics help, as does ACV.

But this will only remove your symptoms from acne if thats what's causing it, and it will take a long time, but it's worth a try as you'll have a better digestive system even if it doesn't cure your problem.

I feel like i'm on a mission to spread the word about how improving your digestion can help with acne. All i do these days is post about digestion, digestion, digestion - and i only do it because it's helped me so much! Everyones quick to believe they have food allergies, even though only a small % of the population actually has genuine food allergies, but everyone seems to think they have the perfect digestive system - even the people taking digestive enzymes.

Having study what they are, and why you take them (i took them for a month because someone said they help - before i decided to learn about things myself!) it's obviously not the answer for most people (unless your elderly, have a genetic disorder or pancreatic disease that prevents you from making enough of your own). You can and need to get tested for enzymes deficiency as their could be a serious underling cause if you really have a genuine deficiency!

Cant see how this would lower oil production in anyway at all. If your acne has started to dissapear than you have naturally grown out of it, this diet is just a coincidence.
