Marijuana

74 posts in this topic

When i started smoking cannabis 4-5 months ago, I noticed that my cystic acne stopped within a week or so, I now only get whiteheads, and those go if i stop eating chocolate.

As for marijuana being illegal when cigerettes and alcohol kill hundreds of thousands if not millions of people all over the world it is ofcourse ludicrus.

So many people struggling to find health problems associated with marijuana? I just wanna say STOP, take a look at tobacco and alcohol, it doesn't even matter if marijuana maybe 'bad for you' if you have some pre-existing rare mental conditions , when those other things are proven terrible for health and are still legal.

Marijuana also lowers your testosterone, which is great for me and acne ;)

I've used marijuana off and on, in some form, for most of my life.

It has pretty much zero effect on my skin.

I do think smoking is bad though, just for your lungs and what not.

I'm buying a vaporizer this week for this reason.

But yeah... marijuana and acne... no effect that I've seen.

Current Skin-Care Regimen (A work in progress):

Morning:

Gentle wash with DKR cleanser

Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% (Following Dan's Regimen)

DKR Lotion + A squirt of Argan or Grapeseed oil (The lotion alone wasn't hydrating enough)

Skin 79 Korean BB Cream (excellent stuff)

Evening:

Gentle Wash with DKR Cleanser

Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% (Following Dan's Regimen)

DKR Lotion + A squirt of Argan or Grapeseed oil

^ But you're coming on this board; I'm assuming you have acne, or have suffered from acne. So how can you claim that it has no effect on your skin?

I'm CelloIsLove.

Here's the problem I see:

People want to heal their acne through diet and lifestyle. Great. But then they get obsessed only with their skin and not how they FEEL. Physically. Emotionally. What is the quality of your life? It's not directly connected to your flesh, I can tell you that. Then obsess over their food. They hear "diet" and think low-fat, juicing, fasting, cleansing, starving. You're young. Do you really think you have liver failure? Do you really think you need more fiber?

Paleo changed my life. It's the only lifestyle that ever helped me-not just with my skin, but with my life. My happiness. My fitness. It says, "Eat good quality meats. Eat lots of veggies. Eat fruit too. Some nuts. Then go outside. Walk around. See the world. Play with friends. Lift heavy things. Get some sun. Then go sleep, wake up and do it again." What that means to me is to live an enjoyable, happy, dynamic life where I can be the best me for the people I love, not anxious, not angry, not depressed.

Be gentle to your skin, your heart, your tummy, and your life.

Get out there and live.

And also eat bacon.

Hey I drive a car and I have acne, I'm pretty sure that doesn't have an effect on my skin.

Just because he smokes weed it doesn't mean it HAS to effect him simply because he has acne.

Hey there... totally reasonable question. I'm a reallllllly old member of this board. ;) My skin is completely clear now through my diet and has been for awhile. I just come back and post on the boards once in awhile to try and help people get to where I am now (clear-and believe me I've been to hell and back trying to find what works)

I still smoke, it's one of my last unhealthy habits that I need to break (along with consuming coffee). I've smoked off and on through the years. When my skin was at it's worst, it actually happened to be during the 1.5 years I was taking a break from marijuana. This was a time my diet was at its worst and I had not yet realized the connection between my bad food and my breakouts. When I went back to smoking after that long break I didn't notice my skin getting any worse. If anything it probably relaxed me a bit which helped somewhat, considering I was VERY depressed about my skin at that time....

There are certainly negative health effects to smoking marijuana, but I haven't seen it effect my skin at all. Haven't seen an effect with coffee either, for that matter... but neither are too good for overall health and well being.

I'm going to go ahead and say no, smoking marijuana does not cause acne.

If anything, it helps my skin a lot. I have anxiety/ocd/stress and whenever that happens I'll end up picking at my skin. even at small whiteheads/blackheads that aren't even visible and my face will end up all red and leave scars.

I just started smoking again a few weeks ago and now I never even think about my skin. I don't have the need to pick at it and I never go into bathrooms and check my skin out anymore.

Not to mention my anxiety/ocd/stress is basically gone. I don't do all of the little obsessive things that I did before I started smoking again. And these are obsessive things that I've been doing every day for years. Plus no more insomnia whatsoever, I sleep like a baby now.

It's sad to see that marijuana isn't fully legalized yet. Did you know people who take the sleeping pill ambien or lunesta, have been reported doing things that they didn't remember doing? As in making food, driving a car, shopping. I caught my grandma who takes ambien, eating raw hamburger meat at midnight and she couldn't even remember doing it the next morning. Sounds pretty fucking dangerous, huh? This is a drug doctors will throw at you when you tell them you can't sleep.

While I sat back and solved my problems with a plant...

In my experience- no. It didnt make any difference. I live in Canada and we see weed differently up here, almost everyone does/has smoked it. It's a great stress relief, and stress does affect acne, and a lot better for you than drinking.

I used to smoke and noticed no difference in my skin whatsoever. I dont smoke anymore, mostly because Im planning on starting a family soon and I want my body to be in as good shape for that as possible. That being said, I probably will have a joint once in a while once I'm doing having kids.

Lots of people smoke it for their whole lives. It's SO much safer than other drugs, alcohol, or cigarettes. If you can vapourize it it's even better (or eat it) because then the smoke doesn't harm your lungs. :)

I agree with this. Since I stopped smoking, my skin got worse. I owe it to the fact that it's so good at relieving stress and helps you to relax.

It will make your fitness worse and if you continue it can mess with your mental health.

There's no scientific evidence supporting that. Please don't make statements as truth when they aren't proven or even haven't really been studied yet.

It won't help anyone.

Thank you. :)

Incorrect.

The impact of cannabis use on mental health has been studied extensively for years,

and cannabis use is now an established risk factor for developing psychotic conditions including schizophrenia.

See here:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15871146

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17662880

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14754822

Yes, I was already aware of these. However, the people who developed psychosis or schizophrenia were already at risk for developing these disorders.

Very true. In addition, often times the use of marijuana falls within the same time frame that many people who are predisposed to do so, develop psychosis- early twenties.

People have to be careful to read where these studies come from, and who pays for them. Nixon actually was a big part in the study that initially said marijuana kills brain cells. What they didn't tell you was that the monkeys used in the experiment were given gas masks and exposed to nothing but the smoke for minutes at a time. If you cut off oxygen to the brain for that long by any means, of course your brain cells will die.

Anyways, I don't think marijuana is completely harmless, but I don't think it's as nearly bad for you as alcohol. Of course, everything in moderation. Anything can become psychologically addictive, even tapping a pencil. But if smoking once in a while helps relax you, then it will decrease stress and have a positive impact on acne. Of course, use your brain and like alcohol, don't drive or do anything crazy while high.

"""acne related post"""

i smoke pretty often, i dont think it does much, i think it might actually help, reduces alot of stress, leads to reducing breakouts. im not sure, but i dont see it being noticablly negative on my skin. Marijuana is not a drug that can kill us, make us addicts or harm our bodies dramatically.. if used in moderation. IM NOT CONDONING OR ENCOURAGING the use of this, harmless drug. and your right, alcohol is ALOT worse for you. alcohol is unnatural to our bodies, marijuana does not interact with any brain chemicals to cause any damage, except in VERY rare cases. cops in my area rather kids smoke then drink, they rather not have 100 calls during the weekend for kids that have drank to much, i live in a very small town in nj. alright well hoped i helped

ohh, and for the people that say its illegal and bad for your health.... in some countries its legal and in some states in america its legal if you have a script, most people in these states do. that being said, marijuana is a drug, a drug that treats and helps alot of diseases. even used to treat conditions that are in the lungs. yeah, inhaling smoke isnt that good for you, but its like tea, it actually helps the lungs clear themselves out. do some research. im in school for this so i know alot about this rising, thriving industry. alot of prescription pills cause alot of damage, so before you reach for that zoloft for your "depression or anxiety" try marijuana, since unlike zoloft, wont kill your liver and intestines. zoloft is just one example of the many harmful drugs prescribed frequently. and there was a study just released saying that marijuana doesnt have any risk of abuse since it is natural to our brains. people need to do some research and from a true source, not be brainwashed and taken advantage of by our government programs and release of wrong infromation. again. IM NOT CONDONING THE USE OF DRUGS, "ONLY IF ITS LEGAL IN YOUR AREA"

I smoke about 20 per day (ciggeretes) I don't know if they effect my skin or not

I've smoked weed in the past and it didn't make my skin any different

but if you get the munchies and start eating crap then that will effect acne.

I smoked crack once and my skin got really bad a couple of days afterwards

maybe smoking does cause acne in some people but i'd be suprised.

Only way I could imagine weed being bad for acne is that the SMOKE from a joint could clog to your skin?

I've never seen any bad reaction from actually getting high.

This thread is probaly dead but I find very interesting. A little background of my life, i started smoking bud around age 13-14yo till 25yo, everyday. I quit this year and have been getting the worst acne of my life hence the thread i made http://www.acne.org/messageboard/index.php/topic/321564-acne-worst-at-age-26-then-everw-pics/. Whats weird is that i quit bud sometime around april of this year and since May I have been getting a shit load of pimples(papules, Pustules, csyts). During those years i smoked 13-25yo I would get a pimple(only pustles) 1-3 per month(if any) nothing i would stress about, it would also go away in a couple of days as well. I would eat pretty much anything(fast food, soda, junk food) and it would'nt cause me to break out.

Ever since i quit i pretty much cut out all junk foods and been eating healthy foods, vitamins/minerals, exercising(which i rarely did as a stoner) and it doesn't seem to make a difference on how many acne I get. Now i do think my acne is hormonal due to only having jawline/cheek acne and i dont know what to do. Im a guy btw so maybe thc has been lowering by testosterones during those year and since i quit it un-balanced them? Maybe i need to start taking saw palmetto? Can't really smoke until May 2013 so I can't really experiment, but these scars/hyperpigmentation are piling up.

Just find it odd that after i quit, my acne has been horrible.

LOL @ the people in this thread saying "you shouldn't do that, that's illegal!". At some point you have to rationalize for yourself and not consider a law an absolute and just truth. Many people say that its prohibition was pursued due to financial concerns and so a law such as marijuana being schedule 2 could potentially directly be linked to someone afraid of losing money. It is easy to see that such laws like this should have no repercussions on citizens and is this null and void.

That said, no there is no way marijuana could give you acne. The effects on your hormones are minimal. Unless you have acne stemming from lung or respiratory issues, in which case you shouldn't be smoking anything.

Marijuana is what cured my acne. weed has the perfect 3:1 ratio of omega fats. Nothing on this earth has that perfect ratio. I ordered some hemp seed moisturiser and hemp seed oil. I put the moisturizer on my face after every shower and i showers once a day not every 2 hours like i used to because my skin was too oily. I drink one sip of of hemp seed oil after each meal and i have had clear skin for a year since i started using it. When i stopped smoking weed in university for a short while my acne went from moderate to golf ball size bumps cystic acne espically on my forehead. I was so embarrased that i missed 2 weeks of classes. Then i started smoking weed again, it didnt make it go away but it certeantly lessen the severity of it . Then the day came when i came across the magics of hemp seed oil. It is legal and thc free(if it had thc it wouldnt be legal).so i ordered both the moisturizer and the drinkable oil. It was the absolute best descesion i ever made. It worked almost instantly. My face actually turned out less oily in about 3 days and the size of my zits started getting smaller. Within a month I had absolutley no pimples on my face or body because drinking the oil got rid of it. I must say it is the grossest crap i have ever drink but it is leaps and bounds worth the taste and the 50 dollars a month. Take my advice and trust me you will not regret it. I purpusley made this account just to share this story so other people don't have to go thru the embarrasing turmoil that i used to go thru. Drinking this stuff and putting it on your face will make those pimples just vanish into thin air.

I think the problem with this thread, is there is too much of the following :

- Arguing about the pros and cons of MJ. This thread is about Acne in relation to MJ.

- Very quick observations of causation and correlation between Acne and MJ

I personally do not believe that Marijuana will improve the skin in the long run.

I've been a long time smoker of more than a decade. I'm no amateur to this, I'm the guy who smoked before brushing his teeth and then smoked again "because the day would be more interesting." Part of this was to escape from having acne. I just turned 30 a few months ago, which prompted my motivation to stop, and proceed with a new diet. I feel incredible right now...

I have a theory behind Marijuana's effects on the human body in relation to acne. To explain it all, I'm going to break this up into a few sections.

Marijuana and Hormones

Unless you're the one growing the plant, you have no idea what goes into it or how flushed the plant is of growth chemicals.

The way your body will interact with these chemicals is a mystery, as everyone's body is different. Fact is, Marijuana will change your body's hormonal balance.

This will cause or clear your acne temporarily, as an imbalance is introduced, but the inverse and final result, is acne.

Marijuana and Skin Clearing Phenomenon

- If you're a newbie to smoking marijuana and experience a clearing of your acne when smoking weed, I can only assume that your stress level has been lowered by acne. The body responds well to stress relief, but this isn't all that's necessary to control acne, obviously. It is merely one thing that will help. Curing acne requires a lifestyle change.

- If you've had clear skin, and you break out after smoking MJ, you should probably stop. This is your body's way of saying it is bad stuff.

- If you've been smoking for a long time and your acne has stabilized, and you break out after quitting, this is your body's way of balancing itself. You're going to have to undo the damage you've done to your body. There's inflammation and likely a host of other problems, including a weak liver.

Marijuana and Carcinogens

Both, MJ and cigs contain the same carcinogens that cause cancer. Before we know it, we'll have a health epidemic if we continue to spread the misinformation that MJ is harmless.

Fact is, most people smoke it out of a tall bong, or rolled up in a blunt. This ravages hell on your lungs, and after a while, your body is doing a great deal to compensate for this.

Marijuana Binge Eating and Lifestyle

The final and ultimate cause, would be that MJ causes the individual to crave things like sugar, which cause acne. This logic needs very little explanation.

While MJ can be beneficial to sleep, it ultimately should not be relied upon to regulate a person's sleep cycle.

MJ can also make you too lazy to wash your face, or get you into a skin picking trance without even knowing it.

Marijuana and Overall Health

If we can look at health as a percentage value, I'd say everyone has the potential to be... close to 100%.

Let's say you're at 80% health. Smoking MJ will NOT make you go up to 85% health. In fact, MJ lowers the body's lung capacity by at least 5% or more, which contributes to less oxygen in your bloodstream.

At the risk of sounding like a raving lunatic, I'm going to have to conclude that MJ contributes to acne by declining your health and does nothing but give you a temporary remission, at best.

If you absolutely must smoke... I have to convince you to first stop, heal your body, and then try it again. If you have a breakout, there you have it. Only you know what will happen and only you can can make that choice.

The key word is MODERATION.

You might break out, but at least it will be mild in comparison to adopting a lifestyle where you are smoking weed, on top of other things.

Dan's regimen cured my acne about 90%

Diet cured the other 10%
