Moved from General Acne Products to Nutrition and Holistic Health. Merged with pre-existing topic.

I suggest a search for the term masturbation. There are multiple threads with suggestions.

Take responsibility for your health; read the full prescribing information for any medication you take and understand that not all risks or potential side effects will likely ever be fully known.

Please ask questions on the boards, not via PM. That way all benefit. Thanks!

thx a lot. i would get zinc but my doctor refuses. How can i do =(

Applying zinc (i use calamine ) + azelaic acid topically to the affected regions helps a LOT. both are considered as dht inhibitors. it has personally helped me . and i no that i get all o my acne only because of excessive sex.

i didn't read through every page of this thread because of the ridiculous stuff i read on the first couple of pages. For those who believe that there is no correlation between acne and ejaculation, feel free to bust all you want and enjoy your acne because its not going away anytime soon. EXCESSIVE (meaning more than once every 3 or 4 days) ejaculation can aggravate acne prone skin because of the release of large amounts of DHT (dihydrotestosterone), which is the hormone also responsible for baldness in males.

Some people have said that masturbating relieves stress so it should reduce acne....listening to Yanni also relieves stress...so Yanni = smooth skin?? Probably not but listening to Yanni doesn't release powerful hormones like ejaculation does......unless you're really into Yanni.....weird example.

You believe there's no correlation between ejaculation and acne, doesn't really bother me because you're face isn't mine. Dermatologists have said there's no connection, but they've also said there's no connection with diet and acne and most on here will acknowledge that there is.

If masturbating caused acne, EVERY MAN, DUDE, TEEN, AND WOMAN- would have acne.

You have not been especially selected to suffer acne because of masturbation. Yes hormones DO play a role in acne- BUT, to anyone who believes this tripe, take a look at how many people have CLEAR SKIN. And I have friends who I know masturbate yet have perfect skin.

Next you will be saying SEX causes acne....well if it does, too flippin bad!! LIVE people.

Really whats the difference between the hormones released during sex as to masturbation?

So would you abstain from sex, incase it was giving you acne?? I DOUBT it. Like I said, you have to LIVE.

ENDOCRINE EFFECTS OF MASTURBATION IN MEN
K. PURVIS, B.-M. LANDGREN, Z. CEKAN and E. DICZFALUSY

The levels of pregnenolone, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHA), androstenedione, testosterone, dihydrotestosterone (DHT), oestrone, oestradiol, cortisol and luteinizing hormone (LH) were measured in the peripheral plasma of a group of young, apparently healthy males before and after masturbation. The same steroids were also determined in a control study, in which the psychological anticipation of masturbation was encouraged, but the physical act was not carried out. The plasma levels of all steroids were significantly increased after masturbation, whereas steroid levels remained unchanged in the control study. The most marked changes after masturbation were observed in pregnenolone and DHA levels. No alterations were observed in the plasma levels of LH.

Both before and after masturbation plasma levels of testosterone were significantly correlated to those of DHT and oestradiol, but not to those of the other steroids studied. On the other hand, cortisol levels were significantly correlated to those of pregnenolone, DHA, androstenedione and oestrone.

In the same subjects, the levels of pregnenolone, DHA, androstenedione, testosterone and DHT in seminal plasma were also estimated; they were all significantly correlated to the levels of the corresponding steroid in the systemic blood withdrawn both before and after masturbation.

As a practical consequence, the results indicate that whenever both blood and semen are analysed, blood sampling must precede semen collection.

Most of the time it seems like there was a good relation to masturbation for me, but at times when I did it 3 times in just a few days, I didn't see any new acne until about a week later while abstaining. Sometimes doing it more frequently seemed to be better for my skin, but at the times I went over a week, things got good too. It's just so hard to tell whether it really impacts a lot of us so directly.

Hello guys, I'm quite familiar with this thread however this is my first time posting.

What I find most troubling about this thread/theory is that it truly lacks CONSISTENCY.

Is it the porn watching?  Is it the zinc loss?  Is it the raised dht/testosterone?  Is it the ejaculation?  Is it the orgasm?  Is it the guilt?  Is it the sweat?  Is it the stress from forecasting a breakout?  Is is all placebo?

If you really want someone levelheaded to take this seriously - please stop throwing around all of these disorganized contentions (and leave them unaddressed) because it makes the regimen VERY difficult to believe and/or follow.

I'd like to share my experience as it may reflect these inconsistencies:

As a college athlete, I find it very hard to keep girls off my mind.  While I do "get some" on weekends, its difficult stepping into class and NOT thinking about girls everyday.  Clearly, quitting masturbation is the LAST thing I and most guys my age would want to do.

If there were a more CONCRETE understanding - this regimen would be tremendously easier to follow.

I'll explain my frustration with not-fapping and why it hasn't given me the success I've hoped for:

I admit to increasing my masturbation habits substantially last summer while I was interning abroad (I lived alone).

My breakouts became unbearable as the end of summer approached and school impended (I was a nervous wreck).

I sought help the first month of classes but antibiotics+seemingly-all-otc-products seemed futile, I resorted to no-fap as I detected a correlation during my summer breakout.

I recalled not fapping 2-3 days prior to dates and seeing improved complexion.

In October - I vowed to not fap for at least 2 weeks.

Immediately I saw my face clear up, however towards the end of week 1 my face broke out TERRIBLY.  I began taking zinc supplements rigorously as the main consensus believed fapping=zincdeficiency= root of skin issues.

Since I broke out even after no-fapping/no-porn for 10 days, I pushed that method aside, went back to masturbating while taking zinc daily.

My acne had its up and downs throughout the school year and so I came BACK to no-fap out of desperation.

Once more, upon quitting - I would see improvement in 3-5 days, then I would feel stressed, repressed, and see breakouts on days 6-8.  I would typically masturbate once or twice on those days out of discouragement.  I saw a correlation but could not find a way to successfully sustain the results, thus opting to whack off the stress and restart the cycle.

Currently, I am on day 16 of No-fap (the longest streak yet).  I saw considerable improvements the first week (with a few breakouts) but have been breaking out badly the past 3-4 days.

I HAVE been watching porn here and there to satisfy my fantasies/boredom but I have not ejaculated/masturbated - I'd wet my pants slightly at the most.

Over the past 3-4 days however, I have been travelling with my family and have had zero sexual thoughts, yet my skin broke out leading to a  plethora of new scars and red marks.

I would really appreciate some sort of input - a possible direction I could follow because I feel I am not quite on track seeing how capricious my "progress" has been.

Juxtaposing it to my previous no-fap attempts make me realize I have gone no further on my 16-day streak, than on my 6-7 day streaks.  Concurrently, I feel a growing innate tension and inexplicable desire to release and clear my mind.

I would like a more linear understanding of this masturbation correlation so that I can do it right this time.  What exactly is causing the cystic acne?  Clearly eliminating masturbation doesn't quite to the job.  There are many aspects to masturbation - it is a habit of assorted nature given how personally developed it is.  What aspects of masturbation are my breakouts contingent to?

Moving forward, how can I better follow this regimen to see more consistent results?  Should I NOT be watching porn at all?  Why is my face still breaking out in large cysts well over a week past quitting masturbation?  Why is my anxiety even more volatile these days?  I feel a lesser sense of self control since I have no outlet from the amalgamated stress of my career/sports and my persistent acne/loss of mental rigor.

Please help.. my life is progressing faster than my acne is fading and I cannot afford to keep hiding from opportunities.

Additionally I've seen people come up with all kinds of methods they themselves swear by:

Masturbate with no porn, quickly so you won't release as many androgens.

Don't masturbate, but porn is fine, because the ejaculation causes acne.

Masturbate every other day, and just take zinc every day because zinc def. = acne.

Don't masturbate/don't watch porn - feel stressed/repressed.  Stress/anxiety = acne.

Masturbate on the 7th day because testosterone goes out of wack the 7th day.

Masturbate, but squeeze all the semen out+ wash water with cold water.

I also very clean so its not a matter of hygiene or diet.  I regularly exercise, am in great athletic shape and have 3 brothers who have always had perfect skin + also college athletes with typical build.

I don't understand where I went wrong.

The problem is not that masturbations causes acne. The problem is how to prevent acne from breakout after masturbation.

Theres got to be a solution. Someone said to take zinc supplement after cumming some say it take it before. Some say take it for the next 3 days after cumming.

I've gone 2 weeks without cumming. It only cleared my skin because I didn't cum. But that doesn't solve my problem im a human being who likes sex.

So we need to find a solution to stop breakouts after cumming.

This is actually so true for me! I jerked off once every week and I flare up incredibly bad.. hell I just pulled one off a day ago.... and I have a cyst. When I don't jerk off for about 2 weeks at least, majority of it goes away..

Obviously this is not really my topic, but I found it very interesting. I know my acne is DHT caused,  because Spiro clears it. So -if masturbation in males causes a short-term increase in DHT which causes acne, why not try a topical Spiro cream afterwards and see what happens?

I see a problem with people that do it so much like several times a day, because topical Spiro smells really bad and you won't run around like that all the time. But for the ones that do it every few days so he do not have a basically increased level but onle those "spikes", they could give it a try and see how it works.

I know that an alopecia-site imports and sells topical spiro.

So for those who breakout from masturbation, what happens? Do you always break out like 30 mins later or something? I find it hard to imagine that this would be the main cause of somebody's acne, if even a minor factor.

Well, how does this apply to female masturbation? Noone takes that into account when discussing this topic!

Supplements: inositol, DIM, digestive enzymes [don't need them every day anymore, only on cheat days], herpanacine & vitamin C with rose hips [not every day], regular sun exposure for vitamin D3.

Lifestyle & Skin Care: Low histamine diet, avoiding unnecessary stress, balancing skin's PH (using Image Ormedics), using distilled/ filtered water to wash face, occasional high frequency facials... (although I have been slacking lately)

No Idea. Seems to be a guy thing. When we were trying to have a baby we well did practice a lot, really a lot. Then I had 2 pregnancies with early contractions, when I was not allowed to have any sex at all for about 4-5 months each time. Neither the lots- of- sex phase nor the no- sex-at-all phase did change anything regarding my skin.

Yeah...I wasn't sure if androgens spike during female masturbation as well. For me, when I have regular sex, my skin clears up. When I DIY, it gets worse. Could just be a coincidence. Not sure how it hormonally affects women, if it does at all, but surely there should be some fluctuations in hormones during sex right?

I bet that is a coincidence. Why should it make a difference between intercourse and masturbation? For many if not most woman, sex with a partner includes " hand work" or other practices in addition to the act itself. So there is no black and white in this. I rather think that - because the female libido is so much linked to her hormonal cycle, that the " sex drive " hormones can cause acne. Well known that the hormones around ovulation increase the libido , so if you do not have your partner around, this woud be a more typical time to masturbate. Same hormones that usually cause that nice mid- cycle outbreak.
In other cycle times the sex drive is lower, so you may want to have sex with you partner because you are attracted to him , but of he is not around, the libido is generally lower and maybe you just decide to clean your windows or so.

My theory is if you have oily skin then too much ejaculation too early in life will cause acne. It takes time for immune system to develop, skin to calm down and pores to shrink.

this is interesting.

i think sexually pleasing one's self would help acne, not make it worse. yet, this is my thinking.

self-exploration usually makes me glow.
