I have started drinking around 4 cups a day for 5 days now, and I have broken out. The last time I drank green tea, the same thing happened. Does anyone know if this is just my skin purging because of the detoxing effect of the green tea? Should I keep it up, and see if the spots clear? I am drinking green tea for the other health benefits, but also in the hope that it will improve my skin too. I don't want to give it up, but don't want to deal with more spots either?!

Last week I started to drink green tea, whilst following a low GI diet, and suddenly my skin became more oily with clogged pores. Can't think of anything else that I changed since the relatively clear week prior to, so after reading about a study that it may increase DHT, I have stopped all green tea. Hopefully, my skin will improve.

I actually used to drink this herb that certainly is suppose to help acne a lot, but I guess it was too much for me, or was detoxing too much, my skin broke out horribly.

Maybe it was because of the pizza, but I don't know. Went with the tea for a week didn't seem to help.

I remember trying to drink a bunch of green tea once for about a week. It broke me out pretty bad so I stopped and haven't tried it since.

Green tea did nothing for my acne.....its diet and juicing that helped me, everyone is different though.

You guys should look into the fact that a lot of green tea brands contain fluoride, which could probably worsen the conditions in the body leading to acne.

Traditional Medicinals brand green tea has been tested to be 100% fluoride free. Look into it, because if you're drinking a lot of it this could be an issue.

Tea contains fluoride naturally, there's nothing wrong with it. It's just the nature of the plant. Many other fruits, vegetables and herbs naturally contain fluoride, too.

I am a great fan of green tea and I have been drinking 5 - 6 cups a day for just over a year, this thread is interesting but after reading it on Thursday I've not had a cup and i've switched to Peppermint tea which contains no caffiene, I believe the green tea I was drinking contained caffeine.

Is there any link between caffeine and acne at all?

Sorry but you're mistaken here. All tea doesn't contain fluoride. It comes from the water they irrigate the plants with and pollution and what not, because the tea plant naturally soaks up a lot of of fluoride from the soil. Check out this article:

There are microscopic amounts of fluoride in other vegetables, I agree. But the amounts in most green teas are far higher and can be damaging. They are higher than most fluoridated water supply and it isn't a case of it being good because it's natural. That would be like saying inorganic sunflower seeds *which can be used to clean the soil after pesticide use because of the way they soak up the chemicals and concentrate them in the seed of the plants* are okay because they are natural. They are actually quite toxic and can give the body heavy metal poisoning.

Check out this too:

If you only have one cup of tea a month or something I wouldn't worry about it. But if you're a big tea drinker like me this is definitely important to look into.
