NOT WASHING MY FACE FOR A MONTH

1,353 posts in this topic

Why am I doing this, honestly, it's because I'm frustrated. I never had acne until turning 20 and am now almost 23, everday I wake up I want to rip my face off and go back to the days when my face was normal. I've tried all different regimens, things that are too harsh dry my face, take a simplistic approach and I have oil and dead skin everywhere. I've been to 3 derms and they all give different things that never really work. I feel like I have every symptom or diet problem that all these forums proclaim and it just makes me crazy to the point that I have no idea what is really good for my face anymore, so basically I'm quitting, since my face doesn't want to be clean and clear than I won't make it, I'm going to teach it a lesson by not washing it for a month starting actually two days ago the 10th. I know that whatever the outcome will be it will be interesting along the way and I'm trying to look at it as a scientific experiment, maybe leaving it alone will help healing weak acne prone skin? who knows, I don't. As of right now my skin isn't breaking out very badly, I never really have bad acne just bad skin texture and little bumps but if I wash too much than I break out. So my nose is oily and has alot of dead skin and my cheeks are oily and have little bumps I have some dry skin around my mouth too, so we'll see what happens when leaving it all alone for a while.

If you don't wash your face, you'r only hurting yourself in the long run.

WHY?

Do you think humans are supposed to get warm/hot water running down their body evry day two times a day.

Humans are probably meant by nature to run around catching food and sweating and maybe take a bath in the ocean or a lake in the forest every now and then:)

I'd have to say even IF slathering chemicals on your face is helping your acne, it is not going to make your skin healthier. Most ingredients in cleansers etc have some kind of cancer causing hazard or turn into estrogens when they are absorbed by the skin. Now how are we gonna b hurting ourselves in the long run again?

Lol, i read back and realized wtf i was thinking...trying to be ninja or something. What was your skin condition before this? Do you have pictures before and now? If possible can you post or pm to me? I'm kind of like you in a way, I always believe simple methods worked. During summer I had a time where I was completely clear, and I didn't do much to my skin except for cleanse. I was so lazy that sometimes I skipped washing my face because I thought my skin was pretty good already, and it stayed like that. Afterward, I got greedy and started using oil blotting papers and it made me break out. Been constantly taking care of that breakout but it just been getting worse and worse as more and more acne is forming. I mainly have bumps like you, which I assume are whiteheads. I only have these red marks under some whiteheads. I still have a few inflamed acne on my nose, but I really think I've been doing too much to my skin. Simple is good in my opinion. I pondered about the same theories as you too. How the hell do people before deal with their skin? The human body is pretty amazing, I don't think it was designed to have all these chemicals put on to treat itself. Our immune systems are efficient and I realized that our bodies should be able to take care of minor problems by itself. One thing I want to know is if your oily skin really got less oily signifcantly after doing this. Cause during the summer I had like slightly oily skin, ever since I been applying all these chemicals for the past months, I realized my skin has gotten a lot damn oilier. Could be my hormones though, I'm 16 and half now.

I mentioned in early posts what my skin condition was like prior, I can send you a pic now of my skin clear but I may have trouble finding a close up of what it was like before since I wasn't comfortable doing that.

Are you oily or dry?

You used to be oily and dry right?

I'm doing a softcore version of what you guys are doing. All I do spray my face with ACV morning and night, no rubbing, I just leave it on. I just love it too much.. It does great things for my acne and redmarks.

The cure to acne:

Stop looking for magic pills.

Take responsibility for your health. Get balanced mentally and eat a healthy diet, preferably RAW. (veggies, fruits, seeds, nuts and legumes)

Get out and exercise.

All these things in your body are interlinked.

Yes, my face was dry, underneath oil that would accumulate during the day. Now it's not dry or oily, I believe because my skin better absorbs the oil produced, my skin is going to produce the same amount of oil regardless thats been shown in different studies, but it looks like less now because its not just sitting on top of my skin.

I read some points on when you talk about the oil function on the skin. Would it be good to wash with a gentle cleanser and afterwards apply an oil like jojoba or emu oil all over the face instead of not washing?

I don't know man all I can tell you is what works for me. For me, any cleanser is too irritating and if you have to be adding oil to your face than we have different skin types. My experience was I would wash and it would dry my skin and then it would get oily, then I would wash again to get rid of the oil and then it would get oily again, so it was just me drying my skin all the time and then oil always coming back instead of being just soaked into the skin. I don't want to prescribe anyone to do anything because I'm not trying to play doctor, this is just whats worked for me and my theories as to why it happened.

I was thinking of doing the no wash thing but after reading your post you say the oil is benificial so I figured I'll try it but wash and replace my natural oil with jojoba or emu afterwards would be the same. BTW I have super oily skin type and some dry spots kinda like what you mention.

This is the best I can do as to summarize whats happened.....

As of about february I completely quit using cleansers all together as it never helped and over the years I was using them they made my face look really red and unhealthy, so from there I started using water morning and night, after about a month my face still was being irritated, so I switched to washing only once in the evening and this helped tremendously but my face still wasn't clear so I started to realize that maybe I have sensitive skin and therefore acne prone skin so I thought I would try not washing at all. The first couple of days were shitty but then by the fourth day I started to realize that my skin looked more even and healthier but my face kept breaking out but interestingly everything would heal remarkably fast so I knew that by leaving it alone it was repairing itself, by the tenth day my skin was clear except for dead skin which gradually goes away. The pattern is just one of irritation, I believe alot of people suffer from acne because they are irritating their skin and over time your skin becomes weaker and weaker and more acne prone. Why use a chemical to strip your face of oils and then afterward because you've dried the shit out of your face put lotion all over it, you're trying to interrupt a natural process by doing things to your skin instead of for once just letting it do what it needs to. So I gradually got to a point where I figured out my irritation factor and avoided it at all costs and if others are trying the same thing its why I suggested trying it for like ten days, the purpose being just to closely watch your face and see how it reacts to being left alone, with this knowledge you can see how washing your skin isn't always the best thing for it and you can see from a daily perspective how your skin will if left alone take care of itself. This excludes hormonal acne, even though using chemicals will help in the short term in the long run you'll have acne prone skin when your body has already surpassed its hormonal stages. Hope this helps.

Waterwater - how are your red marks doing?

They are not completely gone but my overall complexion matches the rest of my body now which really helps to hide them but they have faded over the last month I'm positive and they really were helped by the oil no doubt in my mind I saw it transform from day to day, since my face doesn't break out now I know that they will heal completely also just take some time.

Also, if your a guy how do you shave? The best decision I ever made was to buy an electric razor and when I do shave, about once a week, its at night leaving the oil on your skin helps protect it really well.

I use an electric shaver also. I found out a while ago that shaving with a normal razor irritates my skin and I usually get little whiteheads. I'll try shaving at night the next time I need to.

Day 3: food supplies are running low, disease is rampant - oh wait, wrong log ;)

My skin still doesn't look that great but I only have one tiny whitehead on my cheek that has gotten a tad bigger. I think I'll pop it. No other new zits are forming though. My forehead still looks like a landfill of oil though

what if you sweat/put on sunscreen/makeup? should you still not wash your face?

I'm not 100% sure, but I'd say probably just splash some water on it, but don't rub it too much or use a washcloth.

I'm not a girl so thats a tough call, but if you can I would try to not put anything on your face sunscreen makeup to see what it does on its own, I know thats easier said than done but i never had to deal with having to take makeup off at the end of the day but if you are using it than I would say it definately needs to be taken off or it will do the same thing dry skin would in blocking your pores.

5 on a good week 10 on a bad one, no I don't have acne anywhere else. If you're thinking of trying something like this know that if you use something harsh then I would gradually decrease how much you irritate your skin to the point where you're only using water for a period then try something like this. I just don't want people to go from using tons of chemicals to nothing at all within a week and expect to see perfect skin, its going to take time but most importantly stop irritating your face today so your skin can heal, this is assuming its not hormonal. Hope this helps.

Lol i think I'm going to give up on this. My acne isn't that bad, and it was already getting better before I started this no wash idea, simply because of my diet. My skin is ridiculously oily, and I'm more embarrassed of the oiliness than a few small pimples. Plus, whenever my eyes get itchy it stings when I rub them. Not fun.

already? o well, i'm gonna keep with it. Months ago I was doing good with the dip regimen, but it dried me as much or more than using a cleanser. Took a couple weeks to get a healthy glow to my skin then, but I still had to use moisturizers which kept breaking me out. This way, I use nothing. I may pat a little with toilet paper before classes in the morning but that's it, and I shave with a beard trimmer. I also just took out my zeno that's been stashed away for months and it's working great at 3x a day. I'll keep updating....

btw waterwater, how long did it take for your flake to mostly clear up or do they keep coming back? Oh, and also did u get that burning too? I get it and am wondering if maybe my sebum is irritating so maybe I should be washing it off....I'll have to see if it changes...
