Small bumps plugged pores could be a fungus.

Hi, anyone had success with treating this fungus with nizoral?

What if it's on your face? Does it break you out?

One thing I'm concerned with is that It may get rid of the folliculitis but it may in return give me zits and stuff.

Any other OTC topical / soap that my help with this other than nizoral?

Any advice? Thanks :)

Smile!

Not using any products (some dabs of bp when needed). just wash with water and that's it. havent had pustules and inflamed lesions for a while now since starting.

still have clogged pores but that's it. vast improvement!

I think perhaps I have this as well. Obviously not trying to sound like a me too kind of person but for the most part my face is pretty clear. I did have smaller bumps before I started using BHA, but the BHA gave me larger bumps or at least brought them out. Basically they are headless for the most part and spew out white pus whenever I try to pick at them. Even when I do they seem to come back.

I may try some Nizoral Anti-Dandruff shampoo and see how that goes. These are really annoying me a lot as they are really noticeable.

EDIT: Oh yeah would it be smart to put on aloe vera gel + tea tree oil on the affected area then leave it overnight?

My Regimen

Morning/Middle of the Day

Wash Face

Night

Wash Face

Differin

At Meal Time

Doxycycline 50mg per meal

I am clear!

you know what this is interesting. about a year ago i had REALLY SEVERE acne all over my face (this is after accutane twice, etc) it just suddenly came so while my derm was giving my different, etc it was just not working. so i went to get some facials from this lady in my apartment complex (she has a facial place) she kept convincing me she could fix my acne. so i went... and after her facials she said "this is a special cream from vietnam take it and apply it everyday" and i read the ingredients it was just basic lotrimazol (sp???) ANTI FUNGAL CREam. like the one used to cure athletes foot. i applied it regardless and it never did anything. but it was interesting that she thought my acne was fungus. (btw my acne is under 90% control now with tazorac but i still get breakouts on jawline)

she would even refer to my face as a rose with fungus growing on it. ugh.

This is really interesting.

I've always, until recently starting spiro, had oily skin and always had these bumps. I would also always exfoliate and i did some glycolic peels, but they never went away. They went away only once in my life, around May when i took a cortisone/clindamycin medication because i broke out into these itchy big red bumps (i think it was an allergic thing to the glycolic). Of course, they came back.

However, i went away a few weeks ago on vacation and i was also starting BHA to attempt to clear the bumps (no luck, just irritation!) and i got these itchy spots too, and some newer big white bumps (but not whiteheads, hardly noticeable). I'm thinking i might have this yeast problem. My tiny bumps everywhere now (mostly just cheeks and forehead) don't itch, but i see yours didnt either. I'm seeing a specialist on Tuesday so i will definitely bring up this idea to him. I guess it would make sense too that exfoliation doesnt help for these bumps if its a yeast problem! (since that wouldnt fix the fungus).

Thanks for posting this. Im hoping this is what i have because there is a cure for it. It gives me hope!!

Woah! That sounds exactly like me...

I used to have moderate acne on my forhead (basically only on my forehead, some spots on chin & nose occasionally). Then, I used Clindoxyl Gel (Clindamycin + BP). I get the occasional papule or pustule, and some whiteheads every few days, but they go away in 1-2 days when I apply the Clindoxyl. (Interesting, because your medication had Clindamycin in it, too... hmmm..) I don't itch either, and have really oily skin. I've got these strange red bumps and under-skin acne with only small amounts of discharge, when they do have discharge, which isn't often. My WHOLE forhead is covered and it's really frustrating when it gets bad :(.

Just to clarify, my the Clindoxyl just gets rid of the papules/pustules/whiteheads, but not the small bumps (sometimes it decolours/fades them a little bit but nothing too noticable..:(). And they appear in 'clumps/clusters' too, in the most oily areas.

I have a few questions:

1. Does anyone know if the fungus can appear like under-skin acne??

2. Can you have the fungus and acne at the same time?

3. What are the most common medications to treat them (I know they must have been mentioned here but everyone names like 5 meds so I'm confused which ones are for acne and which ones for fungus :P)

Any help would be awesome :D

Im thinking this is what I have had for years. Cept mine are larger and more "connected" like a line of them on both sides of my jawline. I know that I want to check out more on Candida cause I know that my uncle has it and possibly others in my family that dont know that they have it.

Time to do some digging on the internet. that Derm appointment cannot come quick enough!!! lol

30 mg Claravis (started May 26 2011) 1st month

40 mg Amnesteen (2nd month)

Aquaphor for lips (or blistex)

Cetaphil wash (the kind you do not need water for) <3

Eucerin Q10 anti wrinkle lotion (plus a drop of emu oil) and aloe gel mixed together

Bare esscentuals mineral makeup or No7 liquid makeup (the long wearing kind)

This is probably what i have on my forehead ( since mid-june). The whole story fits the oily skin, the hot, the sweating even the sunscreen part lol. I've been using Head&Shoulders but avoiding it from touching my face should i use it on my face too?

You could let Head & Shoulders stay on your skin in the shower for about 5 min. However I would rather recommend something like Tea Tree Oil/Manuka Oil or a cream containing ketoconazole(Nizoral, Daktarin gold).

I've been reading this thread and have found it really interesting.

I can really relate with some of the symptoms here.

Basicly I have an ongoing scalp problem and was wondering if anyone could help. I get very sore red bumps on my scalp (which occationally bleed) which then turn into whiteheads within a few days, I mainly get them just inside my hair line at the front of my head, but also on the nape of my neck, the crown, behind the ears and along my parting...so basicly everywhere! I also find my scalp is very itchy in the morning.

I initially thought I had lice, but the doctor confirmed that i didn't, he prescribed nizoral shampoo, which I used a while ago, but I can't say it made much difference, though I am going to try it again.

I also do get spots on my back and shoulders, but I have managed to keep this at bay by using a sponge and cleaning it everyday.

Sorry I've gone on a bit, but this whole thing is really stressing me out and has made the past year very hard.

I have tried head and sholders shampoo, but this doesn't seem to help either! I also tried t gel shampoo, but if anything it made my condition worse. If anyone could help I would be very greatful!

Thank you xx

OMG! I may have this too!?!

I have some acne issues for sure, and oily skin. But, I had an infected rope burn on my leg (dog's leash, nasty!) this summer and had to take a systemic antibiotic for skin infection. At first my skin looked really nice for a few days then it went nuts! I wonder if this is connected?

I have had tons of small bumps along my jawline and cheeks ever since and they are not going away. I have had a facial and have used my regular topicals and nothing! I took probiotics after finishing the antibiotics to regulate my system - nothing!

My skin is itchy sometimes near the ears and sides of the jaw and I have had dandruff issues too (not normal for me).

Maybe I should try the nizoral to see if it makes a difference? I don't want it to aggravate my acnaic skin, maybe I will do a patch test on some bumps.

I may have to see a derm, but I always feel like they are useless.

Thanks for all the posts about this, interesting stuff.

mine itches like crazy... its goes real red too... no head/not a pimple.

so the best option is nizoral or head&shoulders? just apply this to your face?

Wow, this site opens my eyes to new things every time I log on.

I am definitely going to have to investigate this idea of fungal infections. I have lots of those flesh-colored bumps that vary in size from supertiny (like my face feels as though it has grains of sand glued to it...gross, I know) to slightly bigger (maybe the size of the head of a pushpin? but those vary in size so I'm not sure). And I have been on about every antibiotic under the sun at one time or another in my battle with acne. And my skin is oily (at least I think it is).

But I also have sensitive skin all over my body, and so I am kind of prone to weird rashes and itches and fun stuff like that =/

Like jtm, I'd like to know if these fungal bumps can appear like cystic acne?

So what, does this Nizoral shampoo work on them but then becomes an irritant? I have those flesh coloured bumps but they aren't itchy, have I got the same thing?

i get these flesh tone bumps too, i've had them for along time, so i decided to look into my diet, and i found that with eliminating sugar, the bumps were eliminating too. i think that the way the body works is when it has an problem going on in the inside, it'll tell you on the outside. thats why i think we get these bumps. so try looking into your diet and playing around with it by eliminating and adding things.

Interesting! I think I have this too...I have these tiny tiny flesh colored bumps on my chest and chin. I thought they must be clogged pores, but my chest is literally covered with them and nothing I do seems to help. Treatments that have eliminated my inflamed acne problem have not helped much if at all. I think I might try that nizoral shampoo on my chest first to see if it helps, if it works maybe i'll try it on my chin too. I wonder if it would be a good idea to take a probiotic internally since this is a yeast problem. I'm also looking into grapefruit seed extract as a potential topical since it is antifungal...i'm so glad i found this thread! I've been puzzling over my little bumps for some time...

I have a question though...I can't feel the bumps when i run my hand over them, is that consistent with folliculitis?

I think I may have this, the only thing is that while they do not disappear, using acne medications such as Clearasil's 24 Hour Vanishing Cream does diminish them. Does that mean that it's not fungal, or does the fungal react to acne medications as well (but isn't cured by it)?

There are also bacterial forms of folliculitis, so that type might respond to Clearasil (I assume the cream contains benzoyl peroxide?). Does the it keep the folliculitis from coming back if you use it regularly?

It may also temporarily making fungal folliculitis look better because it dries out the skin and may help peel out some of the lesions. That is usually only a temporary effect though.
