Scarless Healing

This hour long video is really worth a watch, It really shows you a lot about what's going on currently in the quest for obtaining a way to regenerate instead of scar. Which is a lot.

http://vimeo.com/16378142

One thing that is said by the way, is that animals in general scar less than people which reminded me of the scarless results in the mouse using the hydrogel.

Another thing is that it is estimated that it will take at least another 40+ years before people can regenerate completely. That is, if it is possible in the first place.

Nonsense! 40 years from now we will have artificial lab-grown organs (all exepct the brain), the 'human body shop' and life extension therapies so we can live 150 years, people will not die from cancer, heart disease and organ failures, and generally speaking new technologies such as 3D printing, targeted drug deliveries, brain computer interface, tissue engineering and stem cells will reach the stage of almost total perfection, I believe that genomic medicine probably won't reach the stage of total perfection in 40 years, however it will be much more advanced than it is now. And scars will be an ancient history.

Great! Cant wait for my 70th birthday

meh

Hi Vladislav.

Did you watch the entire video?

By the way, another thing she said is that she thinks what needs to be researched is the way the nervous system reacts to wounds. She (in another video than the one I posted) said that they are now at the start of that whole yourney and it's going to be a very long one. Like she said, people who are now tweens get to see scarless healing by the time they are her age (she's 56).

Lapis that was in 2010 and it was a future sounding statement. It is also a statement by authority, which is a highly unreliable way to judge any information, it is open to human biases. However, since then there have been two or three testable scientific documents that show results. We have the hydrogel which beat the control, and got compete regeneration and is advancing. We have the msc whartons jelly which regenerated appendages which is not advancing yet, as far as I know.

So the large animal trials should be done by summer.

The human trials are projected to begin by the end of the year.

Just 3-4 months and we should get some more news.

Back in November they said they'd be done in 3 to 6 weeks. Where did you hear that they'd be done in the summer?

Seems unlikely to me that all her work is basically going to be proven to be pointless just because the hydrogel has come along.

From the Facebook page:

Hi Bart sorry for the late reply. Gemstone Therapeutics (the investors) have stated the trials are midway and they hope to have results by the summer.

Awesome. I'm very interested in finding out how it went.

This post is endless, isn't it?

Seemingly.

This post is endless, isn't it?

It will end when scarless healing is a reality, so maybe another 40 or 50 years. Either then or when we all get sick of waiting.

Well, we have received bread crumbs of news, so it's totally feasible that the large animal trials really will wrap up in a few months. This will be a big day for Dextran Hydrogel. Don't give up yet. We need a large community working together to expedite getting this into doctors hands.

Once the animal trials are over I think we should try figure out to smuggle some of this stuff.

I agree.

I personally think a vaccine to prevent acne will be the major breakthrough and in 40/50 years acne will be a thing of the past.

Nice, I didn't know Harmon had put up his own lab's website.

Dr. Gerecht's received a pretty major overhaul recently as well:

http://web1.johnshopkins.edu/gerecht/

They both work together on the hydrogel so the fact they've both unveiled new websites in the past few months is a good thing. Also, good to know that Harmon has his own startup going.

I think our sun would give out first before humans actually figure out a vaccine for the ambiguous pimple.

The company that invested in the hydrogel and is taking part in the trials, Gemstone Therapeutics, is on Facebook. Here's the link to their page:

https://www.facebook.com/gemstonethereapeutics

They also have a twitter, but it's just what's on the Facebook page. According to the page, they will have a site up soon.

Something to keep an eye on so we can get updates straight from one of the sources.

"We are at about the midpoint of our critical animal study for the Dex AE Hydrogel Testing - hope to be posting results by summer."

I feel like (and hope) everyone is racing now to become the organization that gets the first scar-free method to healing out there.
