Hello all. I have a question regaurding doxycycline. I was on minocycline for about a year and I became immune to it and my acne came back. Now my derm is talking about putting me on doxycycline. Since my body is already immune to minocycline will it also be immune to doxycycline since they are in the same family? Also, do I have any hope for better results, or is it most likely that I will simply become immune and have acne once again?

It shouldn't be immune to the doxy. I don't know if you'll get immune to the doxy too - I think that's a hard thing to predict. But, even if you do - the antibiotics still may work to control your acne. I posted a study about antibiotic resistence in this section - they found some interesting results. They found that even when the p acnes bacteria was resistant to the antibiotic, that the drug still worked to clear people up. The researchers think that antibiotics impact acne mostly by reducing inflamation rather than by killing bacteria. Probably more than you wanted to know, but oh well! biggrin.gif

also on top of this question, would I be jumping the gun if I wen't to accutane after only trying the minocycline or should I go ahead and test out the doxy? Thanks.

it's up to you and your derm normally people try at least two oral antibiotics before accutane. I used 3 before starting accutane.
