so, i went to the derm for an accutane prescription about a month and a half ago and because of ipledge i had to wait at least 5 weeks and in the meantime the derm gave me a prescription to an antibiotic called minocycline. well, i've been on minocycline for almost 2 months and i'm starting my first course of acctuane next week. my skin has improved, but i know antibiotics are not a perminant solution, and accutane might be.
NOW to my question. i am painfully terrified about the initial breakout. i know there is no way to know for sure, but i was wondering do any of you guys know whether or not being on antibiotics before accutane can help stop the initial flare-up because it does kill the acne bacteria. my derm said she doesn't think i will get an initial breakout because she said most people that get them have severe to moderate acne. i have mild acne, at its worse moderate, but very very persistant acne (i've had it on and off since i was 11--i am 20 now). but i dont really believe her because i've read otherwise, and i experienced an initial breakout on mino, and she specifically assured me that wouldn't happen. has anyone gone on accutane right after antibiotics? what were your experiences? (i was on 100 mg of minocycline 2x a day and i will be on 20mg once a day on accutane)

i know antibiotics are only supposed to get ride of acne bacteria, but my skin is considerably more dry than before i started taking mino. i usually have ridiculously oily skin and would use bp face wash, bp lotion, and at night retin-a. well, i cant even use bp lotion anymore my face is so dry and flakey. i only use the face wash and after i have to put a bunch of moisturizer on my face and my skin is still flakey. i know i should buy a more sensitive face wash, which i will do some time today or tomorrow, but i'm worried because i'm planning on going on accutane in the next month and if my skin is already dry idk how my body is going to handle accutane. if the antibiotics were working wonders i probably would reconsider accutane, but it isnt. i still get small breakouts and its been over a month. (i have mild-moderate acne btw)
has anyone else gotten dried out from antibiotics?

hey! this is my first post, but I have been reading posts and reviews on this site for months. i'm from LA and went to a high school where just about everyone was beautiful with beautiful skin. my friends included. i took birth control (yasmin) at 14 and it kept me pretty clear up until 9 months ago (i'm almost 20 now). i have hardly left the house in the last 2 months and have crying spells regarding my acne constantly. i went to my derm. a couple days ago and told her i wanted accutane.
she told me i had to wait 5 weeks until i could start accutane and gave me doryx in the meantime. i also have a perscription of mino. from a previous doctor, but i decided not to take it at that time. is it worth taking either one of these for a month? it's been 5 days since starting doryx and my acne is worse than i think i have ever seen it... even worse than when i was 14. i feel like the more i cry about acne the worse it gets. i just don't know what to do anymore. i refuse to leave the house and my friends are getting sick and tired of my "i'm too tired to go out" or "i don't feel well" excuses. i really dont want to waste my entire summer hiding. should i just wait until accutane? or should i take mino or doryx first. please just tell me your experiences. i know there have been so many posts like this, but i needed to vent about my horrible acne filled life. :[ p.s. my face has gotten MUCH oilier since i started doryx in addition to the horrific breakouts. i know antibiotics makes birth control less effective. does that also mean it can unbalance the hormones that the birth control is trying to balance? |
