I went on accutane 1.5-2 years ago and it cleared my skin for a long time almost 1 year, until my acne came back but in a form of "perioral dermatitis" - red bumps around my mouth area. I went on tetra which cleared it until it became resistant to it a few weeks ago. I also went on doxy and it made it worse. Hydrocortisone cream on my face made it worse too.

I need help. I've had this dermatitis for almost a year now, and I don't know how to get rid of it. Should I go back on accutane?? I went on it for 6 months and i think 40 mg. I just don't know what to do.. I'm also scared that accutane can affect a woman's fertility... This dermatitis is embarrassing and awful. I've been dealing with acne/problem skin since I was 15. I'm 21 now, so 6 years and counting... I've also read that 'sodium lauryl sulfate' can trigger it so I switched to another toothpaste and another shampoo yesterday... What do I do??? ANy suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Yesterday was my 11th day on doxy and i think it's doing more harm than good, so I am going to switch back to tetra asap (which did clear my skin in the time I was on it) Do you have to wait a certain amount of time to start tetra (Ihope not) since I stopped doxy yesterday or will I be fine if I take a tetra tomorrow???
Anything would be helpful

I took tetracycline for 2 months, 1 500 mg a day, and after 2 months, the acne/dermatitis came back (like 3-4 days after my last pill) Now I asked for doxy so I could take it with food but I had no idea I would have to steer clear of milk/dairy products and thats like all I eat, so it is difficult, now I want to stay on the doxy for the 2 months, but in june, I am going on vacation to a hot climate, so I want to go back to the tetra because the family i'm staying with - all they cook is with milk products, and i'd rather wait the hour before, now how long after I stop doxy should I start tetra? (i.e. 1 week, 3 weeks, 1 month, etc)

And is it dangerous to start tetra after doxy or no? I mean, I started doxy after tetra like.. 3-4 weeks later. any advice would help.
thanks

Hi everyone,

I am a 20 year old woman who has been suffering from skin problems for years now. I went on accutane last year and my face was clear for almost a year, then it came back in the form of perioral dermatitis. I took tetracycline for 2 months, 1 500mg pill a day, and after a week, I was clear, however, when about 3-4 days after my last pill, it CAME BACK. Now I asked for doxy so that I can eat food with it, and I am taking one 100mg, a day, It's day 3, I still haven't seen results. How long will I have to wait for doxy to kick in? Experiences? What have you guys done that has made you clear thus far?
Thanks

Okay, let me just say, I went on accutane last year and it cleared my face for a year. Recently my acne came back in a form of 'perioral dermatitis' around my chin- mouth area. It is bumpy down that part of my face with a lot of small bumps, but it's not like the average pimple that comes up every now and then. I'm thinking it could have been caused by accutane but I don't know, I've never had this 'dermatitis.' My derm prescribed tetra, and I took it for 2 months, and within 5-6 days, I was completely clear, and when I took one, 500mg, pill a day, it stayed clear. (The derm said I could take 1-2 pills a day, but I wanted to stay with just one cause the waiting to eat thing was annoying.) When I finished the last pill, I didn't know how long the clearness would last. About 3-4 days after my last pill, the dermatitis/bumps came BACK! So my derm said i might need a longer dose, but I asked for mino, since I wanted to be able to eat with the pill. Then I heard that people have died from mino, so I asked for doxy. I took my first pill this morning, and I'm wondering, how long until you see improvement? I am going to be taking one, 100 mg, pill every day. Will I see improvement in a few days just like I did with the tetra? What is the main difference between doxy and tetra? How long did you guys stay on it before you got resistant to it? And did it clear you up for the long run?

Any advice would help.
Thanks!

2 1/2 isn't long enough at all...give it a chance....I used to get so frustrated when something wouldn't work after a week =)...accutane is def the last resort though, I should of tried a couple more things first

I'm not having a good time on it because I'm really light skinned so I have bad flushing and tane burn....Hopefully that goes away....All I have now is that tane burn and redmarks though, so hopefully those will start to go away when I get off tane in 1 month....what your doing now isn't working?
