Hey, I know how annoying it is to almost always be dealing with some sort of a break out. I break out in that same area but with cysts and nodules. You should be happy, though, that the rest of your skin is in such great condition!
I haven't used the regimen but from what I've read from other posts, you have to stick it out for longer than a couple weeks to see results.... just like with a lot of other treatments. Don't expect everything to clear up immediately or you'll be disappointed every single day. I know make up sometimes looks really bad over break outs but my suggestion is to just put it on anyway (as long as it doesn't break you out worse). I find that I don't obsess over my skin or touch it nearly as much if I put make up on.
I had a huge comedone on my nose that I popped, what's left is a huge scar. However, NO NEW BREAKOUTS! Recently, what looks like huge cystic acne bumps seem to form on my chin, however, they shrink and completely disappear the next day.
I can notice that hyper pigmentation from old acne scars is slowing fading away! All breakouts are completely dried out - no new whiteheads. You can still see on my neck where the Benzol-Peroxide has darkened my fair skin, however I feel that over time, it'll return to normal.
Skin is still very very dry and I have flaky patches on my cheeks and around my mouth. However, when my Regimen+ kit arrives this week, I plan to use to jojoba oil to balance out that dryness.
Overall, I am SO PLEASED with the results from The Regimen this week.
Hey megtree, I've been checking in on your log now and again because I, too, am in my mid-20's with persistent (hormonal?) cystic acne and I've recently been considering Accutane. I still haven't made up my mind.... it's a hard decision.
Anyway, this is acne-unrelated, but I noticed you mentioned you presented your research at a conference. What are you studying? I'm doing my M.Sc right now. You actually commented on my thread where I was saying I couldn't focus on my thesis because my acne and scars were bothering me so much. Thankfully, I got on track... and I am sending my thesis to my supervisors today! So thank you for the encouragement a month or so ago!
Oh god, I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through. I have cystic acne and it's horrible.
OK, well I don't know too much about spiro but it does seem late to be having an initial breakout. Some of the other girls here will be able to chime in with more knowledge, though. I did take spiro myself, but only for a few weeks because it almost immediately made me break out in numerous cysts and I couldn't bear to wait it out because I scar pretty easily.
Has ANYTHING been different the past few weeks? Diet, stress...? Changes like that can take a few weeks to show anything on your face so think back to anything that might have been slightly out of the ordinary. I spent the first few weeks of January guzzling fruit smoothies to be "healthy" and suddenly near the end of the month, I broke out in the biggest nodule I have EVER had and a handful of cysts. I haven't had nodules/cysts in two years since being on Diane 35. I immediately stopped the smoothies and have had no new cysts since then. I had no idea my acne was triggered by insulin spikes until now and I've had this type of acne for about 8 years. Any chance you've been eating anything different or changed your habits recently?
This isn't getting to the root of the problem, but will your derm give you cortisone shots for some of the worst ones you have now?
