It will take time and patience, possibly 6months to a year, but it will fade. I have found the two things above (aloe, hempseedoil, vit c) to be helpful in healing and fading red spots. The rest is up to your body. Also try getting some sun, just enough so you dont burn to get vitamin d and even out skin tone. Are you still using acne products? Bp slows down healing time in my opinion (also will cause vit c not to work because of oxidizing). If u are using bp id take a break once a week and apply the healing stuff.

How did you clear your acne?

hi are the red spots raised and inflamed, or are they what is left behind from the acne? If these feel tender and inflamed treat with bp. However if they are hyper-pigmentation you can try a mix of Aloe and oil (Hemp seed or jojaba). Another thing you can do is make a serum from asorbic acid (Vitamin C derivative). You can buy the asorbic acid at or search on amazon. be careful to make no more than a 5-10% solution

Has your dermatologist diagnosed you with rosacea? Thats likely what you have. Im assuming you may have tried typical things that are prescribed for rosacea and they didnt help. Everyones skin is different especially those who have rosacea, so you need to pay very close attention to the products you use. I was using a tretinoin cream for my acne, but realized the redness went away 50% when I stopped using it. The doctor put me on soolantra instead (an insecticide). To be honest I dont think that the soolantra has made much of a difference, but it may for you, especially if you also have ocular rosacea. This drug literally just came out in February so id ask about it.

I have the whole bipolar dry to oily skin issue too. I have switched to foam free cleansers with little to no surfectants like sodium layrl sulfate. Almost all cleansers at Walmart are horrible for people with dry sensitive skin. The only thing I have found to work well is either Cerevae Hydrating Cleanser or Cetiphil Cleanser. They do not foam up at all and are more gentle on the skin. I would like to transition to organic/chemical free products, but I am still trying things out. Cerevae Moisterizing Lotion is the only thing that works for keeping my skin flake free. However I am looking into Uncle Harry's Jojaba Cream.

Being gentle on your skin can be difficult when you have clogged pores, but it is very important for reducing the redness and the layer of dry skin, and preventing your skin from overproducing oil. I found that using hemp seed oil actually seemed to make my skin seem dryer ironically. For me, it is better to add it to a miosterizer because my skin needs water not just oil. salcylicic acid helps a little with the clogged pores and skin tone, but Id only suggest Stridex Sensitive or Paulas Choice.

You might also want to research pyrithione zinc cleansers/treatments, probiotics, candidia

*Sorry for all the spelling errors its late and I'm tired* Im still working on my skin but this is what helped so far

Thank you so much! I will look these up and ask her. The antibiotics I have been taking are suppose to be more gentle on your body, and they are not even offered in generic forms. They are for people who get stomach issues ect, so my dermatologist was very surprised when I got yeast infections-but pretty sure they are still killing my good bacteria. I must have a low amount of naturally occurring good bacteria.

    From Sep-January
Last post I was having a lot of issues with congestion. I called my dermatologist and she put me on a generic form of differin. She said it makes sense that the salslysic acid wipes were working. Honestly, I think the wipes worked better but I guess this is better for my skin. It made my face better but my back worse. So she eventually told me to stop using it on my back.

I have also been takeing Oracea (40mg doxycycline). But I keep getting yeast infections. I've had 4 in 9 months. The dermatologist thinks Oracea is not suppose to give you this, but the only thing that has changed in my life is adding antibiotics. When I took a break form the antibiotics I did not get a yeast infection. More recently I was taking a slow release of doxycycline-Monodox, but I got a yeast infection in 8 days from that.

Its depressing because the antibiotics help a LOT with my skin, my skin is almost flawless. But it is ruining my body so I guess I cant take them anymore. I'm pretty depressed about this because it seems that my dermatologist doesnt really know what to do anymore because my skin barely tolerates anything topical.

How long ago did you stop with the retinol? Because maybe these painful bumps are a symptom of your skin readjusting? Idk if salicylic acid and bha is the same thing but I have used both. I find that it helps decongest my pores and exfoliates my skin a little bit (which means a little peeling but I probably need that because I have dry flaky spots anyway), it also helps to fade red hyperpigmentation a little. Now in my experience idk if its going to help the painful bumps, if u are not against BP u may want to spot treat with that because I think BP would kill the bacteria that is mAking ur skin inflamed and painful. Just a suggestion, I'm not an expert and I know everyone's skin is different. But I totally get skin acting different everyother day for no obvious reason. I'm so irritated by that with my skin!

    Congested Pores What To Do
Cycle days 27, 1,2,3 (aka beginning of my period. connection? i bet)

So over the weekend my pores got incredibly congested/clogged whatever. Also the hyper pigmentation was driving me crazy.

So decided to add my asorbic acid toner back in, and but the aczone on top. I noticed a difference the next morning..spots were a little lighter.

Another night I wiped my face with a salicylic acid wipe (stridex no alcohol) and rinsed it off. Then applied my aczone and moisterizers. Can I say that it helped tremendously with the congestedness of my skin! I know I'm not suppose to be adding stuff to my regime but I really couldn't take it. And I knew it would help a little and it did.

Last night I went a little crazy, washed with salicin acid cleanser, put on asorbic acid toner, aczone, then my Cereva moisterizer mixed with jojoba oil, and coconut oil. I know coconut oil is supposively a little comogenic but I needed something to help this hyper pigmentation. Guess what, I wake up and it looks a lot more even toned and lighter. I washed with the salicylic acid wash, then aczone, then moisterizers this morning.

Of course I kind of wonder if maybe the oracea is finally kicking in but I kind of doubt face was clogged! Don't think antibiotics do anything for that overnight.

Anyway I'm going to stop and go back to the basics and see what happens in a few days. I'm sure my dermatologist won't be happy about this but right now the products she gave me are barely addressing all my issues.

    First 6 Weeks
I started the minocycline 50mg, avar cleanser once a day, and aczone twice a day. I didn't see any improvement for 2 weeks. I was still breaking out but my skin looked healthier? Like some of it was clearing? The aczone seems to deflate pimples immediately when you put it on but they seem to inflate by the end of the day lol.

Anyway week 3 I got a yeast infection from the minocycline, I never get yeast infections! I know it was the mino because I stopped taking it for a few days and the yeast infection started to go came back full force when I started taking it again and I had to get vagisil. Fun times. The dermatologist told me to just stop taking the minocycline.

By week 5 my face looked like it did at week 1. Fml. Makes me feel like the aczone does nothing but its so gentle I want it to work.

By week 6 I start getting Pam's and I have my dermatologist appointment. I really hoped she would put me on some form of retin-a but she wants to give my skin a chance to calm down first ( no clue how that's going to happen with me still breaking out) she puts me on Oracea which is doxycycline 40mg formulated for ppl with rosacea. Honestly, I cried after my appointment cause I have little hope this will do anything and she wants me to wait 2 months.

    Beginning Intro
First off, this is a blog to track my personal progress as I'm sick of writing it in different journals and losing it...also I'm hoping to come to some insights from others along the way. I'm trying to figure out the cause of my acne which I feel is next to impossible, but I do think I can maybe figure out what things make it better and worse. For that reason I may also include diet information and what day of my cycle I'm on. Sorry if that is too personal for you but this is kind of an experiment.

I went to the dermatologist because my breakouts were out of control. I was using benzoyl peroxide once every other day because that's all my skin can handle, salicylic acid, and a vitamin c toner I make myself. The BP was just making my skin look old and depleted.

I had a lot of comedones on my forehead ( but now i think they may be rosacea pustules because they are not full of sebum just clear fluid). I had congested pores in my t zone and cheeks. I also had some whiteheads on my chin and a few on my cheeks. My skin felt very if something was under the I can feel myself break out. It is hard to explain but it almost itches.

Now on my chin line I get these weird pimples that are under the skin but they are very tiny. They are not cysts, they are as small the tip of a grain of rice. They do not come to a head, but I can feel them with my fingertips. Unfortunately I have a very hard time not popping them, and now I have a lot of red marks from this. I feel that most of what looks bad is these red marks on my face, my skin use to heal quickly in a few days, but now if I pick I will automatically have hyper pigmentation there for weeks or months.

Anyway, the dermatologist said I have acne rosacea. I almost didn't believe her because I do not had a red face I am only red where I have acne pimples. However, I learned rosacea can also cause its own kind of pimples, and it would explain why my skin is extremely sensitive.

So she put me on aczone twice a day, minocycline, and avar cleanser. I must mention I also have seborric dermatis on my scalp and avar treats rosacea as well as seborric dermatitis.(just in case that's related).

I have switched from minocycline to oracea because I had major stomach issues as well as a yeast infection.

Is cephalexin an antibiotic? By the way amazing improvement! You don't even have left over scars, so jealous. How long were you on this treatment?

I know exactly how you feel. I am 24 and I have had acne since I was 14. I have been crying since Monday because my dermatologist wants me to keep trying a medicine that is not working. The best thing for me was differin...I'm trying to get put back on that now. Also, I have embraced makeup. Even if I cant cover everything it makes it look a lot better. Keep in contact with your dermatologist. Give medications a shot but ask for a change if they don't work in 4 months or so. Don't let this ruin your life. Believe me I know it is so hard! But don't let acne take away your life from you. There are a lot of us out there with this problem.
