    Update 18 Months Later! (Uk)

I've been meaning to do an update for so long, and I have finally got round to it. Better late than never!

I took my last Roaccutane tablet 17 months ago, and I still have clear skin! I can't believe even now how it's worked. Of course I get the odd spot here and there (though would call it more of a pimple), but it disappears as quickly as it appears. Even my back is clear (my back was very stubborn to clear). I don't use anything special on my skin now as part of my skin routine as I find my skin is quite sensitive (always has been). So I just use baby wipes to remove my make up, and Clean N Clear Cleanser.

I suffer from no long term side effects. Just a thick scar on my wrist from where I caught it on my nail.

One thing I do want to say to female (or male) sufferers is when my skin was at my worst before I went on the Roaccutane, I was trying to find the best make up to cover my skin. I watched a Lisa Eldridge video (celeb make up artist) about how to cover acne. I purchased the foundation & concealer and it really made a difference to my confidence. I felt it covered it far better than others I tried. It's pricey, but I still have my concealer even now- a little really does go a long way. I know this is a random thing to add, but it did help boost me & only wish I found it sooner, so I feel I need to share it with others. Here's the link to the video for those that are interested:

Back to Roaccutante. All those that are hesitating or too worried about taking the plunge;do it! Without sounding OTT, it has transformed my life. I would do it again in a heartbeat if I had to. Don't let the side effects put you off. Every individual is different. I had a friend at work take Roaccutane and her side effects were minimal, she just had a sore back.
Focus on the long term rather than the short term.

If you have any questions, I am happy to answer. Here's my skin today (mid make up, so excuse me!), and also below is a link to my original diary.

And seeing I'm still wearing the same earrings 17 months on, has made me realise I need a change! A little embarrassing...!

Just a really quick message from me. Glad things are looking up. I haven't had a single spot for ages now, my scarring is fading on my back is minimal and not noticeable and I am going out tonight with friends with flawless skin and actually having my back on show haven't had my back on show for 6 years. I feel amazing and you will soon too

Sorry to read you're having a rough ride. Just hang in there the early days seem to go really slow, but before you know it you'll be approaching the end of the course. Out of all the lip stuff I tried, I found the Blistex ammonia treatment worked the best. If you want me to tell you the proper name, let me know and ill grab it from my make up bag and have a look. Think it was under a fiver from Boots.

Pleased to see you're finally on it Look forward to following your progress. In regards to how long the course is, it's typically between 4-6 months. But it really does depend on the individual as can be extended if needed, so I think it's just a case of waiting to see how your skin responds to get a clearer idea of how long you will be on it.

Sun cream? I don't think it will be noticeable enough for it it to go streaky/too orange. After all it is just sun cream and people slap it on on the beach so I wouldn't worry about this one having a tint to it and having to apply it carefully.

    Hey Amy,

Sorry to hear you're feeling so down. It sounds quite high your dosage to be started on, normally you're started off on a lower dose and increases steadily to ease you into it.

Try and look at the short and long term of it all. The short term is enduring the side effects for a number of months, whilst the long term is clear skin. Just focus on the long term aim & don't lose sight of that.

With the dry skin, from day 1 (I'm now on day 48) I've been applying Palmer's cocoa butter (the actual tub of butter, not the lotion) every night before bed, & I can honestly say my face isn't dry at all. Considering my other side effects, I'm pretty certain it would be if hadn't found something that worked so well for me (my log is here if you want a read ) my skin only goes flakey where spots are drying up and *whispers* I exfoliate to get rid if it. I probably do so 3 x a week. My face doesn't become red or sore from it after, but everyone's skin is different. I use a natural cucumber one and the beads are very small, but does the job well.

Keep your chin up; it will get better

Thanks for your replies. It has since died down. I initially couldn't go more than 24 hours without washing my hair as it would begin again, but now all seems to be normal again since buying Head & Shoulders anti dandruff shampoo.

    Excessive Itching On Scalp. Help!

I am on day 13 of Roaccutane. The past few days my scalp has been itchy. But early this morning, it was unbearable. Couldn't get back to sleep as it was constant itching/burning pain. Ended up jumping in the shower (scalp feels incredibly sensitive as the force of the water hurt my scalp). It helped the itching. But (5 hours later), it's getting itchy again.

I am from the UK, and have just bought standard Head & Shoulders dry scalp shampoo. Not sure whether it will work (trial and error I guess). Is there anything else I can do? Any products that might help?
Any advice much appreciated, as was at the end of my tether this morning!
