Kashi with fresh big fat blackberries, Greek yogurt and a little agave nectar. 2 bananas. A bag of pistachios (yes, a whole bag). Turkey soup with these whole grain pita things. 2 glasses of Pom blueberry. 3 bowls of matcha. 2 cups of rooibos.

I'm up to my ears in antioxidants.

    Food Triggers
There are many foods that commonly induce acne flare ups. But not all people react the same way to the same things. I was wondering what everyone's personal food triggers are.

I have no idea what mine are. But I do know that my skin loves avocados, blueberries, and yogurt.

I don't disagree. In fact, I think I completely agree. Most people on here are a great source of information and do their homework. Others (ahem OP) will present a theory as fact with little evidence to back up their claims. But I think those people, the ones with chronic diarrhea of the mouth, are in the minority. And there's always someone that's done more research that will jump in and say "that's crazy and here's why" and site their sources.

Perhaps I'm taking this out of context, but I always thinking people getting "high and mighty" as being self-righteous and bullies, in a way. Can't we share our experiences and ideas without being pushy? I think so. I've found that most of the people on are just trying to be helpful, and get some help themselves. MOST people here are kind and many are quite knowledgable. Because I've learned quite a bit from the people here and am encouraged to do some learning on my own.

I must say, I'm feeling pretty damn good about it.

ALL of the latest news reports I've read say that's hogwash. You can't moisturize your skin from the inside out.

AHAs, or alpha hydroxy acids, exfoliate the surface of your skin. Red marks will eventually go away on their own, AHAs (like gycolic acid) simply speed up the process. It can take a few weeks or a few months to see results.

My mom is the same way. And when my skin was at its worst, she always knew just what to say to make me feel shittier. And when it's not my skin, it's my weight or my hair or my shoes. And I'd respond by walking out or saying something really horrible. And my dad would say "she can't help it. That's just how she is." It took me years to figure out how to talk to her. I tried saying "I know you're trying to be helpful. But stop it.". Didn't work. I tried saying "it hurts my feelings when you say things like that". Also didn't work. What did finally work was opening up a line of dialog. She'd say something about my skin and I would tell her about my regimen, what studies I've read, what products I'm using and why. And after about 20 minutes of me rambling on and on, she was dying to talk about anything BUT my skin. Boring a parent into leaving you alone doesn't work in all cases, but it's worth a shot. And who knows, maybe talking to her may actually be cathartic?

Nothing will diminish red marks in 2 days.

"Sudocrem Antiseptic Cream has a water-repellent base which forms a protective barrier, therefore helping to stop any irritants (urine and stools) coming into contact with the skin. In addition, the emollient effect of Sudocrem can help to soothe sore inflamed skin whilst leaving the skin feeling soft." That doesn't sound like something that would have any effect on red marks.

Try an AHA product. And even a really good AHA will take time.

    TreatAcne -

Thank you for taking the time to write that. You make a lot of sense. I do tend to see the world through tunnel vision. And I know it isn't healthy or productive. It isn't fair to the people (and dogs) in my life that I waste so much time and energy worrying and something I have no control over. I'm always the one to say life is too short and that you have to "be here now" and I haven't been practicing what I preach.

Today, I will not look in the mirror (except when I'm putting goo on my face). I will not let crazy, wasteful, energy-sucking, bitter thoughts hijack my brain. Today is going to be a good day.

How do you do that? I try to remind myself that this too shall pass. Sometimes that works. Other times the crazy, obsessive, paranoid side of me takes over. And that hateful little voice just goes on and on. "What if it's not working? What if you're doing more harm than good? What if the people that say acne is caused by food are right?" How do you make that stop?

    Patience Is A Virtue.
Every morning I wake up thinking I'm going to look in the mirror and see perfect skin. Every. Single. Morning. And that hasn't happened in a long, long time. Granted, my skin has been much worse before. And I have been getting compliments lately. But it's just not there yet. So every morning I'm disappointed. And god forbid I find a new pimple. That's just devastating. And then I have to go to work and be perky. I know that if I could just let go a little. If I could just stop thinking there's something I can do to make my skin perfect overnight. If I could just gain some patience, my life would be so much better.
