  1. Has anyone gotten advice from a healthcare practitioner about supplements to take in order to help balance the body's hormones, so as to reduce skin's oil production--and, hopefully, reduce the potential for inflammation (i.e., cystic acne)? If so, what supplements did he/she suggest? Thank you, PI

  5. This question is for female forum members who are taking (or have taken) Spironolactone for acne: have you gotten a derm.--or another type of specialist--to prescribe Spiro. without insisting that you be on the Pill? If so, how did you convince him/her to prescribe it without forcing you to be on the Pill? Soon, I will visit a derm., whom my physician's assistant told me does not prescribe Spiro. without insisting that the female patient also be on the Pill. Here's my quandary: I just stopped taking BC (Minastrin 24 Fe) in mid-November. (All forms of BC gave me regular migraines for years--and apparently other neck/head nerve pain for the past 2 years, as said pain stopped within 36 hours of stopping Minastrin and hasn't returned.) I also should be off BC due to my age, as it would increase other health risks. But I'm scared that this derm.--or any derm., for that matter--won't prescribe Spiro., if my cystic acne returns within a few months' from now. I also have another not-so-fun skin disorder called Sebaceous Hyperplasia, which I greatly fear may worsen due to stopping BC; so controlling my skin's oil production may prove beneficial in more way than one. (NOTE: I'm not a candidate for Accutane.) Thank you, PI
