Since stopping antibiotic usage completely, I've gone more topical and have had somewhat of a dietary change also. One of the topicals I use is benzoyl peroxide 10%. The other is retin-a .05.

Anyway, certain parts of my face, my cheeks(by the nose and mouth), the area just above the nostrals, and my chin area are prone to little bumps that look like undeveloped pimples. I think the cause is the benzoyl peroxide. It may be that the acne is forming, then the benzoyl peroxide stops it in it's tracks, then it just stays there. Certain parts of my skin is very uneven.

Does anyone know how to get rid of these bumps?

They seem to stay there for indefinite amounts of time.

Thanks, bye.

Peace and love.

I remember when I was younger, young adult aged. I had acne but it would never scar or hyperpigment. One day I began taking antibiotics to escape the use of proactiv. That was probably the biggest mistake of my life. After starting the antibiotics, my face was clear, then when I stopped, my acne became untreatable except with antibiotics. So I started taking antibiotics again. For the next 5 years, I was almost completely clear. I stopped the daily doses of antibiotics about 8 months ago, that was when my acne flared up like before. Now, since being completely off antibiotics for about 6 months, my acne is less extreme, but not clear yet.

What do you think is the cause of this new species of acne? There was only a three month gap between treatable acne and severe, nearly untreatable acne.

I should add that during this time, I started drinking alcohol. But my diet has been pretty much the same.

Could it have been the antibiotic use, alcohol use, or something else?

Since my diet was pretty much the same, the acne breakouts(if caused by diet) should be the same right?

I'm trying to figure out what the cause of this dramatic change in breakouts is. If I can figure this out, I can cure myself.

What do you think?

Thanks for reading, and any help that you can provide would be very much appreciated.

Peace and love.

I've read a lot about the different foods and "non-foods" that may cause acne. But I've got a few questions that I need to ask directly here.

-There have been a lot said about refined sugar and it's effect on acne, the insulin levels, and immune system. So question number one is about naturalsugars only:
--Does natural sugar have an effect on acne, insulin levels, and the immune system?
---By natural sugars, I mean sugars from plant sources, like sugar canes, fruits, and veggies.

-Another question that I have is:
--If the theory of the paleolithic(paleo) diet is that thousands of years ago, prehistoric man never had acne because of the natural and unprocessed foods that were eaten. Then why do the healthiest vegetarians and vegans still get acne?
---With the exception of the few who eat fried vegetables like french fries or other fried non-meat products.

-Question about the alkaline diet.
--I read on this forum that someone drank lemon juice from a whole lemon twice a day and achieved clear skin. Before that, he/she tried drinking acv but didn't have the same results.
Has anyone else achieved these amazing results by doing this lemon detox/alkalizing diet?
---Theoretically, this may or may not be the alkalizing effect that is causing the skin to clear, but in fact that the lemon juice helped to cleanse the colon and liver, therefore cleansing the body of acne causing toxins.

Thanks for any help.

Peace and love.

since june of this year, I had been on some kind of diet in an attempt to get clear. first it was the low gi diet(not necessarily low gl).

second came the anti-inflammatory diet, I was only on this for about 2 weeks, I started breaking out after a week so I decided not to pursue it any longer.

third came the alkaline diet. well, I wasn't really on this one, I will attempt this or the paleo diet soon. I sorta embarked on the alkaline diet, but it was half alkaline diet, half whatever diet.

anyway, the point to all this is: looking back to a time before I was on an "anti-acne" diet, my breakouts were pretty bad, I would get huge cystic acne. Looking back over the last 4 months, my acne did improve quite a bit when I was on the different diets.

recently, for some reason, I started to think that diet didn't play a part in my acne, so I tested it. For the last 8-9 days, I ate junk food, fast food, fried food, ate lots of sugar, and even drank some alcohol for the first time in about 7 months. The last few days have been terrible, I broke out very badly. Some on my cheek, and a huge amount on my chin area. Even had a cystic one. The bad part is I can still feel them coming.

Anyway, thanks for reading my story, I have a couple of questions though:

1)Is natural sugar less likely to cause a breakout?(cane, fruit, veggie, etc.)
2)Which diet has worked better for you?(Paleo, anti-inflammatory, low gl, alkaline, etc.)

Thanks for your help.

Peace and love.

I've been struggling with acne for a while. I've tried different diets, systems, treatments, medications, and supplements. Nothing has really worked. Recently, I've thought about trying a "ancestral" diet, one that contains only types of foods that my parents and grand parents ate. Growing up, I don't remember seeing any acne on my parents' faces. But of course I also was too young to look for it. I was talking to my dad the other day, he told me that he has always had some form of acne on his face, even now(age 51). It was somewhat of a downer for me, I suddenly realized that no matter what I try, it probably won't effect my acne, at least not in a good way.

This begs the question:
If genetics play a role in a person's acne, what natural things can they do to try and prevent it from occuring.

Never give up.
Peace and love.
