Please explain why high dose for some & low 4 others

Son was given choice to low dose for long time or high dose to get it over with quicker. Please tell me the advantage of taking low dose longer. When I say low dose the doc gave him a choice of 40mg for a longer duration or 80mg to get it over with quicker.

Please if you read this and you did low dose can you tell me what your side affects were. My sons face is flamming red and the doc says that is normal.

son 18 started tane 7/16/08...update from mom/meme

18 year old son was hoping to start college with skin that looked better than it did when he first started tane on 7/16/08. Anyway from the top

month 1 ..40 mg daily
month 2 ..40 mg daily and xtra pills of 40 mg on Mon. Wed. Fri.
The derm in our home town had him on multi vitamin everyday...she also said his course would be 4 months.
Started college 4 hours away and switched derms...new doc has him on 80 mg a day ..NO Vitamin and said this course will take as long as it takes to work…. up to 6 months.

The new doc is close to Va. Tech our son is in Radford their office was so busy with college students on tane it took 5 full time docs and nurses to keep up with it.

When we picked our son up for his first new doc visit (he doesn't have wheels at college) I was expecting to see improvement. His face was so inflammed. He was so hurt and couldn't hardly talk to us...after about 20 minutes he was letting lots of anger out...I was so relieved to see him angry cuz at least he was getting it out. He wanted to go off the tane and said he didn't want to see the new doc. I told him I understood and supported what ever he wanted to do. He was going to ask the new doc for something else however in the middle of the visit he said screw it I will try to finish the course. The doc said he had a few scars on his temples but none on his cheeks.

His face is so inflamed from tane, he has a few actives however the ones he has are red as hell. My family and friends know me as an encourager and supporter but I want to tell you I was so hurt and mad yesterday I could have murdered THAT STUIPED ACNE DEAMON.

This is my prayer for all of you precious people with acne. And if you don't believe in prayer just skip this part.

Dear father above please heal my son and all on this site with acne. I am asking father for a miracle like the ones from long long ago. Thank you amen.

female 53 w/rosacea as long as i can remember

I just wanted to say real quik I have photo facial treatments from derm docs office 4 times a year... for the most part for me it holds my rosacea completely at bay. I pay $100.00 per treatment.

First post for me / mom of 18 yr son starting Accutane

I understand the pain involved with having acne when I see someone with acne my heart breaks weather I know them or not. I am 52 now however at the age of 14 I had the worst acne in my school. It took me much longer to get over the emotional scars than most people. It’s so hard when someone looks at you and they don’t see your eyes they only see your face.

Which brings me 2 the pt of my son who is 18 and has been battling acne now for 5 years. Right now to date we have invested about $4,000.00 in his face and that only has to do with meds and co pay. He is like several other posters on here his skin gets immune over time to every thing the docs put him on. He finally started accutane 4 days ago.

This forum should be on Oprah really because my son lost all hope and I mean all hope. He is smart and has a wonderfully personality when we went to college orientation 3 weeks ago with a bad break out he said I can’t do this I can’t be known again as the kid with acne like high school, he shut down and went to sleep for a long time. My husband and I told him the next day that we didn’t care how much it cost or who we had to go to we were going to find a way to fight this.

I found this forum and would read comments to my son…you see he wouldn’t look at anything on this forum he didn’t want to set himself up for failure again. I started reading accutane post and slowly he came around, we went back to the doctor and almost demanded accutane.

I thank you forum for the before and after pics, I thank you for reality, I thank you for understanding.

My son has hope however he is not looking forward to a nasty break out.

Has anyone on here taking accutane not had a break out in the beginning?
