I have and still do suffer from post tane redness and flushing. I have tried various things supposedly good for this and most of them have just irritated my skin. However i have recently tried something new and think that it has reduced the frequency and severity of my flushing.
All i have done is to apply dissolved aspirin to my face twice a day (after cleansing)..... Just take half an apsirin and thoroughly crush it in a bowl or something. I then collect it into a shot glass and pour in a little boiling water, stirring the solution. I wait for it to cool so that it is just warm and then dab it on my face using my fingers. I use it all up so i make sure a lot goes on. Truth is im not certain that it was this that has helped, but it certainly hasnt done any harm (which is more thatn many treatments do). Its not going to irritate your skin and the aspirin really does get on your skin. (You can taste it if you lick the sides of your mouth). Aspirin is known to be an anti inflammatory, i read somewhere that the only reason why there aren't aspirin based topicals is that it doesn't dissolve easily in water, and that it isn't stable when dissolved (ie a cream would have a very short shelf life). Like i said im not sure if it this thats helping but thought i would let people know in case they wanted to try it.

Just thought i would post and tell people my story about how accutane has affected my skin. Ive posted before, but i just thought i would put it all down in case someone comes across this post and it helps to inform them a little.
Well all my life i have had extremely sensitive skin, apparently the midwife noted this at my birth...(i shoulda headed the warning) . I had always been prone to getting red in the face very easily, any exercise, stress or embaressment set me off. Then when i was about 15 i started to get acne and it quickly came fairly severe. I used lots of BP but it only made my skin red and seemed to do nothing to stop my acne. Then when i was 17 i went on tetracycline and my skin was perfect (although very greasy) for a bout a year and a half (the best time of my adult life). That stopped working partway through the second year i was at uni. My skin practically exploded and i developed sever acne. I got depressed and dropped out of uni, and then went on to minocycline. This slowly got rid of my acne, but never worked as well as tetra. I almost always had some acne but it was mostly tolerable. I stated another degree at a diff uni and was generally OK with my skin. Everyone knew i was prone to acne but after what i had beeen through this was easy. This time it was mid way through my third year that the antibiotics stopped working. Once again i developed severe acne only this time i was 23, i shoulda grown out of this surely??!! I began to miss lectures and lost interest in my dgree...i had to do something about this curse. It was then (about 7 months ago) i took the decision to go on tane. I had never wanted to go on tane as i feared that it might cause problems with my ultra sensitive skin. However i was desperate and looked upon tane as my last chance to have a normal life. During the course my skin went very red and i frequently flushed (when i breifly went on 60mg/day my skin was almost permanently flushed). My derm said it was nothing to worry about, and I kept reading stories about how it was normal and would go after tane. However deep down i feared it woudln't. I was on tane for only 4 months at 40mg/day (except when i tried 60mg). It wasnt a high does as i weigh 85kg. I battled on through my degree (got a 2.1) and in the meantime the acctuane did its job against the acne very well. At the end of the course i was totally clear of acne, unfortunately i was also red in the face and flush if someone called my name. Three months on and i have some very mild acne which has returned. My face is nowhere near as red as it was when i was on tane, but i still have general redness and many visible blood vessels. However i still regularly flush, and when i do my entire face goes bright red and i feel like im gonna catch fire. Today i went to see my derm and he prescribed fincea and beta blockers. He didnt properly diagnose it as rosacea but said that the symtoms fit so it was a possibility. He wasnt willing to blame accutane for my current problems but i know that it was the cause. Im not trying to scare people off going on accutane. For me it was a gamble that didnt quite pay off. I feel as though i have traded one disease for another. The only reasurance is that my mother still gets acne and therefore i dont think i would ever have outgrown it. All i want to do is educate people. Especially those people who already have sensitive skin and who are already prone to flushing. To them i would advice them to only use accutane when you have tried everything else and that you are certain that you wont outgrow it. Someone really fucked up when they invented skin. I wish we were like my cat and had fur..... Good luck everyone

Is IPL all its cracked up to be??? I have redness and many spider veins that i would want to get rid of. IPL claims its good for these things, but i was just wondering if there is anyone else who has tried it out for similar problems.
Any insight would be appreciated.

OK so its the usual story, accutane induced roscea. Im seeing my derm in 2 days and was wondering about which is likely to be best? Do they all do basicltythe same thing?...Also which is best aginst fighting acne too?
Ive heard fincea is best vs acne ...is this true? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
