If you have persistent acne, especially if you're an adult, and especially if you have a bunch of other health problems along with it, consider that you might have mercury or other heavy metal toxicity.
If you have mercury fillings, if you've had lots of vaccines or allergy shots, if you've broken a mercury thermometer, even if your mother had mercury fillings, or had any put in, when she was pregnant with you... there's a pretty good chance you have mercury toxicity. I've had acne and various other health problems for years. In the past few years I have developed tons of new food allergies and sensitivities... digestive problems... hormonal issues. I thought about the mercury issue on and off but I mostly just brushed it off. Eventually I decided to get my mercury fillings out. Actually, I thought I only had one, but it turns out I had four. I also realized that I'd been exposed to a lot of mercury over the years through allergy shots. I've now discovered that this is the reason for most if not all of my health problems. Mercury can cause food allergies/sensitivities, both directly and indirectly. It inhibits the enzymes we need to digest gluten and casein (dairy protein). It may cause candida and leaky gut, which of course cause food sensitivities. It is extremely disruptive to the endocrine system, particularly the adrenal glands and thyroid, and poor adrenal function causes food allergies. And of course, the endocrine system regulates hormones, so mercury can cause all kinds of hormonal imbalances. It's also been linked directly to insulin resistance. After I got my fillings out, I saw some improvements... My skin cleared up, my menstrual cycle got shorter (it had been on the longer side), my digestion improved. Unfortunately, after a few months, things got worse. I developed IBS, my cycle started getting longer again, my skin got worse. At the time, I had no idea what was going on, but when I started looking into mercury chelation (specifically Andrew Cutler's chelation protocol), I realized what had happened. (Dr. Cutler explains this in his book, Amalgam Illness). When your body stops being constantly exposed to mercury (ie. when you get your mercury fillings out), your blood levels of mercury go way down and things improve. When your blood levels eventually get very low, your organs start dumping mercury that they've accumulated over the years into your bloodstream. This causes a lot of problems, especially if you're not chelating at this time (which I wasn't). So getting rid of mercury is not easy. You can't just remove the source of exposure. You have to take chelating agents, and the safest and most effective ones are DMSA or DMPS, and ALA, in LOW FREQUENT ORAL DOSES. There are tons of other things/methods that people use to try to get rid of mercury, but many of them make mercury toxic people MORE sick because they mostly just move mercury around your body rather than taking it out. Anyway, I won't go into tons of detail about this, but if you want to do mercury chelation, look into Dr. Cutler's protocol. It's the safest way to do it, and it works. Tons of people have gotten better by it (including Dr. Cutler himself). Still, even with the safest protocol, mercury chelation is tough. I have only managed to do two rounds of it (and will need many, many, many more). This is because after my second round, my adrenals basically crashed and I experienced tons of symptoms of adrenal insufficiency. Mercury causes adrenal problems in the first place, but trying to get the mercury out will exacerbate the issue. So you need to be on tons of adrenal support during chelation (I wasn't taking much for my adrenals at the time). A lot of people actually go on oral hydrocortisone to get through chelation (most mercury toxic people have LOW cortisol, not high -- I have confirmed that I have low cortisol with a saliva test). Others just take lots of adrenal cortex extract, licorice root, certain vitamin supplements, etc. Anyway, I just wanted to put this out there because I wish I had known about all this years ago. I am not even close to being better right now -- in fact I am worse off than before I had my fillings removed -- but I know 100% for sure that I am on the right track and in the end I will be much better off. I've never been completely healthy in my entire life -- I was born with a milk allergy and terrible sleeping habits. No surprise since my mom had mercury fillings put in when she was pregnant with me. So I'm looking forward to actually being healthy for the first time ever. Chelation can take a long time -- basically a minimum of a year, and up to several years -- and you have to be willing to get a little sicker initially. But if you have a bunch of health problems that are really interfering with your life, you might find that it's worth it. If you want to test to see if you have mercury toxicity, the best way is a hair mineral analysis. This explains it: http://home.earthlink.net/~moriam/HOW_TO_hair_test.html If anyone has any questions, I'd be happy to answer.

Basically, this substance, D-chiro-inositol, helps with PCOS symptoms by reducing insulin resistance.
QUOTE You may have heard that d-chiro-inositol helps to treat polycystic ovarian syndrome. It is thought that it does this by improving insulin sensitivity. Recent studies have suggested that women with PCOS may have insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia due to a d-chiro inositol deficiency. D-chiro-inositol has been shown to influence the action of insulin. The amount of chiro-inositol in muscle has been shown to be lower in subjects with type 2 diabetes than in normal people. A study from the Medical College of Virginia found that 1200 mg. of d-chiro-inositol daily had multiple beneficial effects in the treatment of 22 overweight PCOS women.(2) Not only did it improve the action of insulin, but 86% of the women ovulated during treatment with d-chiro-inositol compared to only 27% in the placebo group. Serum androgen (male hormone) and ovarian androgen production also decreased in the treatment group. Another study showed similar results in lean PCOS women.(3) http://www.ovarian-cysts-pcos.com/inositol.html#sec3 I have not been diagnosed with PCOS, but I have (or had) symptoms of PCOS -- mainly acne and hirsutism. I had several tests done through my doctor and an endocrinologist, but every single thing came back "normal". My doctor and the endo both told me that I had idiopathic hirsutism (hirsutism with no cause), and that there was really nothing wrong with me. The endo prescribed me birth control pills and an anti-androgen, but I opted not to take them. For the past 2 or 3 months, I have been eating 1/2 a cup of buckwheat farinetta* every day (I use it in baking). From doing so... - I have much clearer skin. I was like 99% clear for awhile, until recently. I have had some minor breakouts recently because I have been very stressed out for the past couple of weeks. But still, my skin would normally be much worse under these circumstances. - My hirsutism has been reduced. (It is not gone, but hirsutism is nearly impossible to get rid of once you have it.) I used to get the odd dark hair on my chin (yeah, gross, I know), but now I never ever get those! - My menstrual cycle has gone from 33 days to 28 days! - I am sleeping much, much better. (I had insomnia for nearly my whole life.) And there are absolutely no side-effects with this. The same cannot be said for birth control pills or anti-androgens. I guess the reason it works so well is that in women with PCOS, their insulin resistance might actually be caused by the D-chiro-inositol deficiency itself. So it actually gets to the root of the problem. *Buckwheat farinetta from www.minndak.com is the highest source of D-chiro-inositol -- 1/2 a cup provides 600 mg, the amount used in studies on lean women. D-chiro-inositol is also available as a supplement, from www.chiralbalance.com, but it is extremely expensive. Also, I tried the supplement, but for some reason it gave me digestive problems... although I've never heard of that side-effect happening to anyone else. (Fortunately, I was able to return it for a full refund.) PS: Thanks to SweetJade for introducing me to this information. EDIT: Just want to add that carob powder and carob syrup are high in d-pinitol, which is a precursor to d-chiro-inositol, and some women with PCOS have had good results from using carob. I believe you need about 2-3 tablespoons of carob syrup, or 1/4 cup of carob powder.

I'm very thin, but my stomach is just a little bit flabby. I know reducing abdominal fat really helps insulin resistance. But I was wondering, what is the best exercise to reduce it? I currently walk about 20 minutes a day, but that's the only exercise I do. Should I be doing situps or something like that? Or should I just do more cardio?

I'm trying to figure out the best diet for treating insulin resistance, since I've had very good results so far with a supplement for IR (d-chiro-inositol). I'm pretty much clear, but the thing is, my skin is still a little oily...
I know a lot of people say that low-carb/high-fat is best, but I don't think that is the right diet for me. At one point, I was eating a lot of fatty meat and some fruits and vegetables (and nothing else), and my skin was worse than ever. There's something I'm confused about though... I thought that having some protein (and fat) with carbs lowered the GI and therefore would be better for insulin resistance. But then I saw this article about a study where they tested the effects of a high-protein, higher-fat, high-fiber cereal vs. a low-protein, no-fat, low-fiber cereal on glucose and insulin... Full article: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/satter28.htm QUOTE Subjects were all apparently healthy and free of any and all known metabolic disease. In a nut shell, at random individuals were asked to eat one of the two cereals. Blood was then drawn and analyzed for the rate of appearance and disappearance of glucose and insulin from the blood samples at regular time intervals (0, 20, 30, 60, 90, 120, 180 min). And just to be sure we are all on the same page, the rate of appearance is a measure of how fast something enters the blood stream and rate of disappearance is a measure of how fast something leaves the blood once it has reached an apparent peak value. The results were interesting to say the least. Between the two cereals there was NO DIFFERENCE on the rate of appearance of glucose at the 0-20 min mark. In other words the bran cereal was digested just as quickly as the corn flakes despite the obscene amount of fiber[2]. So now we have what we would call a high glycemic response for both cereals. So why is Bran cereal considered a "Low Glycemic" Food. Well hold on to your hats. The bran cereal also had a greater rate of appearance of insulin into the bloodstream. This causes a rapid clearance of the glucose from the blood bringing it back down to levels that would appear to be the result of a low glycemic response. This is the first study to date to asses both glucose and insulin changes in such a short time frame and with testing periods so close together. That means in 20 years we have basically missed everything that has gone on prior to 30 minutes after a meal! So why does bran cereal have such a significant impact on insulin concentrations? One of the most prominent reasons is that the bran cereal has a much higher protein content than the corn flakes. Research has proven time and time again that when protein is ingested in combination with carbohydrate, the insulin response is greater than just with carbohydrates alone[3,5].One of the main reasons that many people today consume a protein/carbohydrates drink after training. Does this mean that, for insulin resistance, I should not eat a lot of protein with a lot of carbs?

Personally, I think that mercury (and possibly other heavy metals) toxicity is responsible for a lot of my problems. I don't just have acne; I also have seasonal allergies, a ton of food allergies/hypersensitivities, various hormonal issues, etc.
I had my mercury fillings removed from my teeth a month ago, and I've been taking this product called Natural Cellular Defense for a few weeks. It supposedly removes mercury. My skin has been improving steadily (in fact I am very nearly clear). It hasn't helped my seasonal allergies yet, and it's too soon to say if it's helping my hormonal issues. But I've been taking a fairly small dose of NCD, because it is dehydrating and I find it hard to drink enough water to compensate for that (especially since I try to avoid drinking water with/near meals), and it's causing constipation because of that. But I read this article by a naturopath who recommends fasting for a week or two while taking large doses of NCD. The results of this seem pretty impressive... Here's the article: QUOTE As a natural holistic physician, I, Gabriel Cousens, M.D., M.D.(H) Diplomate of the American Board of Holistic Medicine, Diplomate of Ayurveda have come across a major breakthrough in detoxifying the human body of the carcinogens, heavy metals, viruses, bacteria, fungi, and overall acid conditions that promote and cause disease. Some 70,000 chemicals are being dumped into our environment, 65,000 of which are potentially hazardous to our health. We live in a virtual sea of pollutants, and carry many of these toxins within us. They can be found even in unborn children. A 2004 study by the Environmental Working Group identified 287 industrial chemicals in babies’ umbilical-cord blood, including 180 known to cause cancer and 217 that are toxic to the brain and nervous system. In my research to develop a detoxification system for prospective mothers, I recently learned about a naturally occurring mineral called zeolite, which has a unique, negatively charged, crystalline structure. Zeolite is formed from the fusion of lava and ocean water, and combines all four elements. I feel that zeolite is an alchemical gift from God. It has been used for more than 800 years in Asia as a remedy for overall health and well-being, and is on the FDA’s GRAS list (generally recognized as safe). Zeolite is available commercially in a purified, activated form, in the zeolite product. The results of research on zeolite are very impressive: 1. Zeolite appears to prevent and may become an important treatment for cancer. In one study, 78 percent of the 65 participants with terminal cancer (many types) are now in complete remission for 12 months (LifeLink Pharmaceuticals, 2005, currently not published). 2. It has a chelation-like effect in removing heavy metals (particularly lead, mercury, cadmium, and arsenic), pesticides, herbicides, PCBs, and other toxins from the body, shown in a study of miners at Duke University. These toxins are strongly correlated with the occurrence of a wide range of diseases, including cancers and neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s, autism, and dementia. 3. Zeolite also improves liver function, indirectly improving elimination of pesticides, herbicides, and xeno-estrogens. 4. Zeolite appears to block viral replication, and may prove to be a potent anti-viral and general remedy for all viruses. To date, 40 anecdotal cases of herpes zoster have reportedly been healed. Preliminary anecdotal case studies suggest that it may help alleviate rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and hepatitis C as well as the common cold and flu. 5. Zeolite’s binding power was proven during the Chernobyl disaster, when tons of it were used to remove radioactive cesium and strontium-90 before they contaminated local water systems. 6. Zeolite creates a natural buffer in the system by establishing an optimal pH level (between 7.35 and 7.45), which in turn activates healthy brain function and a strong immune system. 7. It is an effective detoxifier for prospective mothers and fathers. Anecdotal evidence and centuries of use in Asia suggest that zeolite is safe to use even during pregnancy and breastfeeding, although its safe use in pregnancy has not been proven in double-blind studies. A pilot study at the Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center with 55 people, based on my non-toxic baby protocol for preparing parents to bring forth non-toxic babies, consisted of a one-week green juice fast and detox support program with zeolite in the form of Natural Cellular Defense (NCD) 15 drops, 4X/day. The following very significant results were found. 18 people were tested for depleted uranium (DU), a very serious worldwide radioactive contamination resulting from the use of DU armaments, especially used in Iraq. Sixteen of the 18 people tested initially had DU in at least the liver, the breast, or the brain, and 13 of the 18 people had started with it in all three organs, the liver, the breast, and the brain. In one week on this protocol, all the people became DU-free except for one person, who still had DU in the liver. Also, thirty-two people were tested for Teflon and Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), the carcinogenic element of teflon. Teflon was found in the livers of 27 people, the breasts of 25 people, and the brains of 28 people. All but two people became teflon-free after one week. Only one person had Teflon remaining in the breast, and one person had Teflon remaining in the brain. In the same 32 people, initially PFOA was found in the liver of 28 people, the breast of 29 people, and the brain of 28 people. After one week, all people became PFOA-free except for one person having PFOA remaining in the breast and brain. In testing people for a whole set of toxins consisting of 14 to 26 of the common heavy metals, pesticides, and herbicides, the people initially had on average 90 to 95% of the toxins in their liver, breast, and brain, whether they were live-food eaters or not. The overall percentage of removal of these toxins from these organs was 88%, leaving only 12% of the toxins in their systems overall. This included 91% removal from the liver, 88% removal from the breast, and 87% removal from the brain. In the 55 people tested the heavy metals, pesticides, and herbicide toxins, initially 801 toxins were found in the subjects’ livers, 825 toxins in the breasts, 824 toxins in the brain. After the one-week protocol, just 73 toxins were left in the liver, 102 toxins left in the breast, and 111 toxins left in the brain. The four subjects who continued the green juice fasting with NCD for two weeks went down to 0 toxins, a 100% removal rate. These results suggest a powerful synergy of NCD plus a detoxifying green juice fast. In observing thousands of fasters since 1988, fasting alone—although wonderful for enhancing the vital force—does not seem to significantly get rid of pesticides, herbicides, and heavy metals after 1 week by itself. I am proposing a theoretical model for explaining the testimonials of the powerful, across-the-board healing effects of NCD (a purified zeolite) from such health problems as ADD/Hyperactivity, Addiction, Agent Orange Exposure, Arthritis, Autism, Cancer, Cysts and Tumors, Depression, DES Exposure, Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, Flu, Colds, and Respiratory Problems, Gastro-Intestinal Problems, Heavy Metal Poisoning, Hepatitis C, High Blood Pressure, HIV/AIDS, Kidney Stones, Lack of Mental Clarity, Pain, PMS/Menstrual Pain, Silicone Breast Implant Toxicity, Skin Conditions, Spider Bite, Toothache/Gum Disease, Varicose and Spider Veins, Viral and Other Infections, Yeast Infections. The model is a foundational healing concept. The basic mechanism we can draw from the literature and my present pilot study is that, by removing heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, and DU, as well as through its effect of increasing immune system function, alkalizing the blood, blocking viral replication, and neutralizing free radicals, the NCD removes the blocks which compromise the vital life force. When the vital life force is freed up and activated, the body’s natural ability does the healing and relieving of these chronic diseases itself. With the NCD, we have returned to the basic natural healing theory for all chronic diseases. NCD is truly an alchemical gift from the Divine. Also: - According to testimonials, zeolite promotes a sense of well-being, clarity, and happiness. It appears to do this as a consequence of eliminating toxins and also, according to preliminary research, by increasing serotonin production. One study suggests that zeolite also helps relieve depression. - Anecdotal reports suggest that zeolite increases energy, immune function, and general health. - Zeolite neutralizes the formation of nitrosamines in the stomach. Found in processed meats, nitrosamines are one cause of stomach cancer. Another positive effect on the stomach, according to many anecdotal reports, is relief of acid reflux. - Testimonials suggest that zeolite captures triggering antigens, which cause allergies, migraines, and asthma, decreasing the rate and severity of these symptoms. - Zeolite directly absorbs free radicals and thus decreases free radical activity and damage to the body. http://www.naturalnews.com/019825.html So I'll probably try this fast starting Monday. I couldn't find any details about exactly what the people in this study consumed on the fast, but I'm just going to drink vegetable juices and a lot of water all week. I'm also going to do an enema every day since it's important to remove all the toxins, and generally you're not going to have bowel movements if you're not eating anything. Anyway... I just thought I'd post this for anyone else who is interested in doing a heavy metal detox or general detox. Natural Cellular Defense can be purchased here: http://my.waiora.com/home.php?893275. I got mine here (Canadian site): http://www.upayanaturals.com/ProductDetail...CFSWlQAodMhqfVw Warning: It's very expensive. |
