Okay first my latest greatest REGIMEN-

I bought this stuff called BYE BYE BLEMISH (active ingredient SULFUR 10%) and this other stuff called PIMPLE ERASER (acitve ingredient GLYCOLIC ACID). HAS ANYONE TRIED THIS STUFF?!

Before using it:

1. I used TAZORAC GEL (prescription) which I had been using for about a year and a half for approximately 3 months consistently. I could not use Tazorac long term (see below). While using TAZORAC (which was very irritating to my skin) I used only NEUTROGENA FRESH FOAMING CLEANSER to wash my face and remove make-up.

2. After three months of Tazorac torture, I started using NEUTROGENA OIL FREE ACNE WASH (2% SALYCYLIC ACID) as a facial cleanser twice a day, applied NEUTROGENA ACNE DEFENSE LOTION (2% SALYCYLIC ACID) during the day, and NEUTROGENA ACNE DEFENSE GEL (2% SALYCYLIC ACID) and CLEARASIL 5% BENZOYL PEROXIDE at night. I have never known salycylic acid to prevent pimples (for me) but it does wonders for my oily skin and has a minimal effect on the acne marks that are left after break outs. I have had moderate- but inconsistent success with benzoyl peroxide.

RESULT: Well- for the first month or so on the above regimen, it seemed to work. About a month ago, I started breaking back out slowly and it's picked up to where my pimples seen IMMUNE to the salycylic acid and GLOBS of benzoyl peroxide!

I didn't have acne as a teenager, 21 I started breaking out for no apparent reason. I'm currently 27, been to numerous dermatologists, OTC meds, pills, creams, gels, vitamins, praying, hoping and wishing- I still have acne.As my last dermatologist described it, I have moderate but stubborn and resistant acne. 1/2 of my problems is the pimples themselves, the other 1/2 is the marks they leave behind! Here's a list of what I used and the effectiveness:

ANTIOBIOTICS/Tetracycline & Minocycline- Absolutely no result

VARIOUS VITAMINS-(I take a lot of vitamins, many of which are thought to treat acne for a seperate skin condition) they seem to work for my hives but no change in my acne!

CLEOCIN T/CLINDAMYACIN-No effect but made my skin oily

SALYCLIC ACID-Does not seem to stop acne but works well for my overall complexion and stops oilyness

BENZACLIN-Worked well for curbing breakouts, the severity and frequency for about a year and a half- then I seemed to grow immune to it

BENZOYL PEROXIDE 2.5%, 5%-Same as benzaclin, may work for a few months then I seem to grow immune to it and it does nothing

The stuff you are using is to get rid of existing pimples (the sulfur and glycolic acid). You would have much better success if you prevented pimples. Have you tried the CSR? I noticed you were using BP and SA together which you are not supposed to do (I read that they inactivate eachother). Also, if you use BP you need a gentle cleanser...Neutrogena Oil Free Acne wash is bad stuff.

I used a sulfur-based topical while I was on accutane back in the day, and for about a year afterward until I phased it out and simply grew out of having any acne issues. It was prescribed to me after I had no success with antibiotics, BP, or topical retinoids.

Never heard of bye-bye blemish, but it sounds like the same shit with a spiffier name.

Was it a prescription topical? I used a prescription called Sulfacet-R (also called Novacet and Klaron), which contained Sodium Sulfacetamide and Sulfur. It worked wonders for four years until I became allergic to it.

BP and salycylic acid cancel each other out? That may be my problem right there...although when I was on benzaclin (a prescription med with benzoyl peroxide & an anti-bio) my dermatologist encouraged me to use the oil free acne wash...

I've tried the CSR- but it seems like benzoyl peroxide works for me for a while then I get like immune to it. And I put GLOBS of it on...that's why I'm trying to use it with other products as well....

Q: Will my skin become resistant to the beneficial effect of BP?
A: Propionibacterium Acnes (P. Acnes), the bacteria in acne lesions, can not survive in the presence of oxygen. BP creates oxygen. Therefore, it is physically impossible for this bacteria to develop a resistance. If the regimen works at first, it should always work.

Where did you read that they inactivate each other? I have never read anything that states benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid deactivate each other; on the contrary, salicylic acid increases the penetration of benzoyl peroxide. Because of benzoyl peroxide's increased penetration, it is more likely to cause irritation, which is why some people advise against using the two together. However, others encourage their combined use because salicylic acid unclogs pores, while benzoyl peroxide disinfects; thus addressing two factors of forming a pimple. Those I know who have used both together had more success than using one ingredient over the other, though I realize it varies by person. I think you confused salicylic acid with tretinoin; benzoyl peroxide and tretinoin should not be used together because the tretinoin is rendered ineffective.

I tried a generic lotion version of the Sodium Sulfacetamide and Sulfur made by Glades. It worked much better than benzoyl peroxide and seemed to be so much gentler, although I have heard that sulfur is actually very harsh for many people. I don't apply the lotion to my nose or forehead areas, though, because these areas of my face are very sensitive and cannot tolerate it. Doesn't really matter though; I never break out on my nose and very seldom on my forehead (and almost not at all anywhere since my 55% lactic acid peels).

I've read that BP and SA inactivate eachother on this site several times. You can't beleive everything you read though, so it could definitely be false.

That's true. There are so many myths about acne and acne treatments floating around.

I don't remember what it was called (it was a while ago), but yes, I had a prescription. I didn't use it for anywhere near four years, since I didn't have any acne issues after the accutane. I just stopped using it after a while when I realized I wasn't ever breaking out any more. Sure enough, I didn't break out even when I stopped using anything.

Bye bye blemish is the best. I love the stuff as a spot treatment and i will occasionaly sleep with it on my nose as if it were a mask. Talk about clearing blackheads evernight!!!! (do NOT sleep with all over your face) Just becareful though because it is potent stuff and can burn very easily when mixed with other acne meds or harsh cleaners.

Great stuff. Be careful though with mixing vitamins with the medications, drink your vitamins within two hours of the medications, or it won't work. Use a moisterizer after it, for it drys your skin. I love Sulfur products for acne, it helps me a lot. I am 33 and have suffered from acne since I turned 11. I hate the marks it leaves, my face is my the first thing people see and I can't get dates or men for it. I work on Real Estate and I can't tell you how frustrated it is sometimes, the reaction I get of some people is bad, for we are living in a very plastic society. Is a big put off for me. But I started using a sulfur base cream called Drying Cream with a drying mask three times a week based on sulfur and natural ingredients and is working very good on me. I found it on a website called mariobadescu and so far with my diet of 8oz of water each hour from when I get up to when I go to sleep non stop and I stopped eating unhealthy stuff, only eat meats twice on the month. I concentrated on eating more fruits, vegetables, less sugar which made me flair up.
I remember this soap that pharmacies used to sell over the counter, (Stieffel) can't find it no more, but it was great. I think that's because is so strong, it has to be sold with prescription., or purchased online. Hope your thing works.[/b

Maybe a silly question, but don't Sulfur treatments really stink? I remember having a spot gel from 10-0-6 (bonne bell) which worked great but smelled like burnt rubber?
