I've started noticing lately that the second child of a married couple tends to have worse acne than the first. It's not the case everytime, but its weird remembering someone's older brother and looking at his younger brother...the older one NEVER had a pimple while the younger one is covered....I've only noticed this in guys by the way...Anybody think this could be true?

Also, neither one of my parents has ever had any problem with acne whatsoever, however mine is absolutely terrible. I got off my antibiotic last summer and all creams and it was literally one of the most depressing times of my life going back to school(people would ask me questions, like "what happened", kinda like it was my fault haha.). My sister had acne though and still has it she's around 23. I also think girls tend to have it worse in the adult stages of life, I have rarely seen a male adult who had acne(besides college dudes in their 20's)

Im not sure if the first point you made is true or not. I dont know a lot of people to compare that to. I am an only child so that isnt true in my family.

For me I had worse acne when I was 13. It was all over my face. Now my is strictly on my chin, cheeks, blackheads on my nose, and my forehead is absolutely clear

Hi all,

I am a 38 soon to be 39 y/o female and I still get breakouts, (no longer any big cysts since being on spiro 2 years now, knock wood, but I still get pimples from time to time and I have a buttload of pitted scars, which sucks big time). Neither of my parents had acne problems, but my grandmother had terrible pitted scarring from bad acne and unfortunately I got her skin, (lucky me!)

I know a fair amount of people who have had extremeley severe acne, worse than anyone i have seen on here and they grew out of it by age 24-5. Obviously not everyone does but im certain the majority do, If i ever see someone age 30 or over the only acne they seem to have is maybe 1 or 2 pimples, but i guess you never see peoples faces in public as close as you see yours. Im continually told my skin is perfect, which it appears to be from about 1-2 meters from the mirror, but when i look close, especially after a shower i have like 20 pimples and alot of small clogged pores (blackheads).

I dont think I'll ever grow out of it..my mom had hormonal acne as long as i can remember ..but it was just a couple here and there..nothing horrid and my had would get a few on his chin from time to time as well. my skin is clear now but often times i look at my skin and a poor pimple looks like it wants to come out but never does.

It's always going to be something I want to stay on top of..if I dont keep up my routine now i know my skin would go back to be gross.

You can't kill it off as a teenager simply by using lots of products. A high number of teenagers get acne to some degree, a fact that I witnissed the other day at the supermarket near the local school. Most will be lucky enough to grow out between 16-20. However, acne can last from between the ages 12 - 80, although obviously the severity does decrease to some degree as you get older. If you parents had acne and they grew out of it at say 25, then theres a good chance your acne will begin to subside in your mid 20s. My mother still has acne though and she's in her 50's................I hope there is some radical breakthrough in the near future as I can't handle acne for another 30 years+

I think it depends on what is causing your acne. You stated that your mother still has acne and she is in her 50's. Well...me too. Mine is caused by hormones and as we women get older, our hormones change again just like they did during our growing up years. I still get one awful break out a year or so it seems and this has caused severe damage to my face. Not a pretty sight in a mature woman. I wish the best for most of you young sufferers on this board, but for the few like your mom and I, it may be a life time of fighting this awful beast.
