So I got this stuff called Prosacea and been using it for two weeks and the acne I've had problems with for three years now (I am 26) has faded into nothingness. Red marks - fading fast. NO NEW BREAKOUTS.
What happened?
Proactiv and Dan's Regimen failed me. (Proactiv worked for a while though)

How was it that everybody could easily suppress acne with simple medications while I struggled with embarassing red marks and pustules?

Could it be I had ROSACEA? But a mild form of it? You look at picture examples of rosacea on the internet and the poor people look absolutely HORRIBLE. I feel really really bad for them. How could -I- have that. It only happens to my cheeks. Surely, not me. It must be hormones or something, I thought.

Wellll... I've forgotten to factor in some important things.

1) I have dandruff that is easily treated with Selsun Blue.
2) My eyes get red, puffy and itchy if I dont apply Lubriderm to that area twice a day.

I forgot because those two things were so easily treated. But if I see all three (acne, dandruff, itchy eyes) as RELATED, it sounds like I have the right symptoms to be diagnosed with ROSACEA. Not acne.

Courtesy of Rosacea.org

Any one of the following warning signs is a signal to see a dermatologist or other knowledgeable physician for diagnosis and appropriate treatment before the signs and symptoms become increasingly severe:

* Redness on the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead.
* Small visible blood vessels on the face.
* Bumps or pimples on the face.
* Watery or irritated eyes.

So like I said, this stuff Prosacea in conjunction with Delna's famous baking soda+ACV regimen for red marks (Search: Delna) has cured me within weeks. And believe me, I've been using Delna's regimen for two months without any great results. I just love how it cleans my face and keeps the oil at bay all day. eusa_clap.gif

Am I jumping the gun with my conclusion here? I don't know. I could be wrong. You guys tell me.
Anyone who has tried this stuff Prosacea or any other rosacea medications PLEASE LET ME KNOW and post your thoughts. I'd love to hear from anyone with a similar experience.

ive never tried this stuff before, but i have used two rosacea products that worked very well together. they are called klaron and metrogel and i began using them in the fall of 2004. they worked great until they became less effective around 15 months later. they are both antibiotics which is why.

Where did you get PROSACEA from? It sounds like something I would be interested in.

I believe I have a very mild case of rosacea myself. I've used both Proactiv and the Regimen, and like you, the ProActiv worked for a time. I last two months with the Regimen and it cleared my acne up but made my face so hidiously red that it looked like I had a severe sunburn.

I've never really thought about rosacea until recently, when I was searching for something to use and remembered a topical that did well for me for a year and a half to two years. It was Rosula gel, and I still had a tube, so I read the label and sure enough - for the treatment of acne rosacea. While I used it my skin looked even and less blotchy.

I've always had a problem with uneven skin and notice that it often has a pinkish tone to it, especially on my cheeks and under my eyes. I looked up rosacea only once because the pictures looked severe. I assumed I didn't have it. But many topicals and washes leave my skin looking a bit red, I flush rather easily, and the Rosula was the best thing I've ever used.....it all adds up to rosacea to me.

I had been about to give the Regimen another go and just start painfully slow, but the idea of rosacea made me go for a Rosula cleanser & medicated pads instead because I know that BP and other topicals can aggrevate rosacea.

It was very interesting how I stumbled onto Prosacea. I was in the band-aid/cotton ball aisle of Walgreens looking for Neosporin. I just picked it up, gave the package the once-over and thought What the hell?
I've tried just about everything else.

Too many to list here but in addition to Proactiv and The Regimen I've used all products that have failed me or eventually failed me by: Neutrogena, Clearasil, Nivea men's, Gillette men's, Cetaphil, St. Ive's, Clean&Clear, MANY other OTC products, Tetracycline antibiotics, Tazorac (this sort of worked) and a slew of natural home remedies. You get the idea. So I gave Prosacea a shot.

It's active ingredients are: Sulphur 1x and inactive are: acrylates, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, diazolidinyl urea, lactose, and some others.

Maybe I got lucky. Anyone have any questions or information about their success or failure with this product?

i never had rosacea, i just had acne with very senstitive/slighty red skin and my derm prescribed this stuff. and since its nonirritating and very gentle it helped me a lot. my skin has never been that bad, but with metrogel and klaron i was 100% clear in a few months. but as i said they became less effective a few months ago sad.gif. now im on dan's regimen and my skin looks great.

sy5alive - What does the Prosacea packaging look like? Is it a tube? I'll probably pick some up...I didn't know there was any sulfur related items out there to use over the counter. It is a gel/cream?

I never noticed the correlation, but I've always had watery and irritated eyes, especially over the last few years. Huh....I'm more and more certain that I have a form of rosacea....that would explain why the Regimen & other topicals failed me.

Google: Prosacea. it's easy to find and you can buy it from drugstore.com. still, i haven't read many reviews of it online. nor has anyone gone into much depth about it on this forum in the past. I will keep you updated on my status as well.

Is it available in stores though, like Walgreens? I hate ordering things like this online. smile.gif

I haven't read too much about these types of topicals either. I would get the impression that they're not as prescribed or as known as something like BP or Retin A..... I told my derm what worked on my face (sodium sulfacetamide and sulfur) and he still pushed Retin A and 8% BP on me without a word about the possibility of Rosacea. And I'm standing in a brightly lit room where my pink skin tone is obvious.

Posh - i have not heard of beta blockers or anything like that. I just read your log though and I have symptoms of flushing as well. I also forgot to add this but blushing has become something that's become easier for me recently. I NEVER blushed when i was younger.

Also, slight temperature changes make me flush as well and I sweat so easily. In the car, exercising, wearing long sleeves on a warm day.

Don't get me started on spicy foods.

Miss Jo - I bought mine at Walgreens. In the aisle with band-aids, Neosporin, peroxide, etc. Funny how it wasn't in the facial cleanser aisle. But I guess it is medication in a seperate class.

I know how it is with those derms. Mine took one look at my face, gave me samples to use, prescribed antibiotics that did nothing and took my money and gave me a little pat on the ass towards the exit. He asked me NOTHING. But I don't know about your symptoms and I am no qualified doctor. I am not saying Prosacea is the end of acne rosacea. I'm only using this post to discuss it. (because I have had luck with it so far)

I don't remember having a problem with flushing when I was younger, just in the past few years. I've searched rosacea triggers....I don't eat spicy food or drink much alcohol, but I do stress easily and I have noticed that heat/humidty in my room tends to make my skin look worse.

Oh, I know Prosacea won't be a miracle, but I would like to find something that could control it to an extent, something I can buy without needing a prescription. I'm using prescriptions now and I know they work, but I wouldn't mind trying the Prosacea in a month or so after my face settles down (I had it very badly irritated, which is why I went back to my derm). At this point, I'm nervous about using other topicals and creams (BP, SA, etc...) because I know it could make rosacea worse, and if that's what I have, then I definitely don't want that.

it's really drying after using it a few nights. that's also the complaint from a couple other acne websites. Sulfur is the only OTC thing that has worked for me for redness. I'm going to try it every other night now and hope some pimples don't pop up. i can't use any topical meds for pimples except sulfur. so the whole dry your face out and then use a moisturizer doesn't do too well for me

oh forgot to add this. if you use it and it's really drying, try it every couple of days, and on the other days just wash at night with a sulfur soap if you can find one. I found a good one at a nutrition mart near me, like where they sell burts bee's and stuff like that. It's kind of annoying that you have to find some stuff by chance, or know it exists and ask about it. Why couldn't they have prosacea in the acne section as well as the neosporin section? Same with jojoba oil and other stuff. Is this a divine game to see who can figure out the perfect formula? The people born with acne were chosen as contestants because by puberty they showed an unfaltering resolve to conquer any challenges in their path. sick.gif

I googled prosacea and read the list of ingredients. It appears that this is a combination of sulphur, which is commonly used to treat rosacea and acne (as a facial wash and as a topical) and aloe vera gel (a cooling and moisturizing compound). This would probably work well for type 2 rosacea that is in its early stages. However, it would not stop nor control flushing and blushing, such as those with type 1 rosacea.

I just wanted to write a post to say how much I love prosacea. In just about a week or so my redness and irritation has improved drastically. I was actually really shocked b/c ususally nothing seems to work. It's amazing how it happend almost instantaneously. I would recommend this product to anyone with acne/rosacea. I am so impressed - I love it!

I bought my Prosacea at Vons Pavillions market, in the First Aid section. $10. Today is Day 1, I saw a bit of red fading on contact...yippee! It does feel a bit tight & dry now, but hey, if it kills the red, I'll deal !

I just bought some of this stuff to try even though I don't need to add another topical to my routine.
I just applied it and while it smells icky but didn't irritate my skin, well so far wink.gif

Edited:

Today when I woke up my skin looked less red and the couple red bumps I had on my face are gone! Who knows if it's the Prosacea or not........I also used Klaron before bed. I think the combination might help me.

Edited Day 3 of using Prosacea..........my skin seems less red and the bumps I had before starting are still gone. Woot!

I don't have a problem with acne, however after fighting with the dry, itchy, redness on both sides of me nose for over 2 years I decided to give Prosacea a shot when I saw in the First-Aid isle at Eckerd. It works fabulously!! I saw a change by the end of the day. I use it every other day to keep it from making by skin too tight, but it cleared up ALL the symptoms. I have seen it at Wal-Greens and online, however I would advise getting it in store due to the fact that the places I've seen it online are the same price as in store plus S&H. I highly recommend this product and hope it works as well for you as it has for me, and for some reason it doesn't you're only out about $12 as opposed to over $30 with some other products!

Hello all,
I have had some type of Rosacea for quite some times and just started using Prosacea. I have (liek all of you) used tons of topical and oral medications. I started out using the product just at night and not adding any mosturizure, to get my face adjusted. I now use the product 2 times a day, and apply moisturizure in the AM only. I'm not sure hwo well its working for me. My skin appears to be less red and more pinkish, but maybe its just me. It does make my skin feel great and has reduced some of the pimples, which is good. i will continue to use the product and let you guys know how it works out.
What type of regiment have you guys been using with this product?
