i have really sensitive skin so would this be too harsh on my skin? i have persistent mild acne and many red scars...i also heard it may cause even more scarring or burn your skin if you put this on a scar that hasn't healed yet
would you recommend nucelle or garden of wisdom?

i have the same type of skin and the same question... anyone have an answer for daria and i?

thanks!

hi, I looked up nucelle's line and came across Nucelle Mandelic Serum 10%, is this the stuff you guys were talking about? it loks wonderful! I think I might have to give it a try, lol This is a quote from where I loked it up: "Fades redness, scarring, uneven skin tone, & breakouts. Skin will become smooth, soft & clear once more." everything it says it does is what i need so it seems perfect for me. has anyone here tried it? Or if anyone has tried the Mandelic Acid, I have a question for you, Once you stop using it, does the acne come back? i would hate if that happened.

i am using mama lotion, a combination of mandelic acid and malic acid.. and it is absolutely the best cream ever. great results on pores. it says on a website about mama, that results are permenant after stop of use.

I would be surprised if the results were permanent. Maybe for reducing marks, and hyperpigmentation. for blocked pores though, I think you'd have to keep using it to maintain the results. I have used both the NuCelle 10% and the Vivant 15% and liked them both. The pores around my nose (the only place I am using it now) are much clearer than before i used mandelic (not 100%, but much better than they were). Now, I can go for several months without getting any blocked pores in this area.

I haven't tried NuCelle so can't comment on it, but I love the GoW serums. Try a sample of their 10% alcohol-free marine serum and see if your skin can handle it. If you have very sensitive skin you might want to use it only once every other day to start with.

Not sure exactly what you mean by red scars. If you have post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, mandelic will help with the fading process (it is not a miracle or overnight cure by any means, but it will help). But if you have raw patches that are red, you should not use mandelic on them.

I would think that you would need to keep using it, although it is possible that you could reduce the frequency of use ... say, from daily to 3x per week ... for maintenance.

Okay...so I pretty much read this entire thread so I'm hopefully not repeating anything you guys have already asked/answered, but I'm new to this entire site, let alone all of the lingo and terminology. So I have some questions... eusa_think.gif

When you say 'clogged pores' do you mean blackheads? Fortunately for me, I don't really suffer from breakouts, per se. I DO get a few pimples here and there with some frequency, but it's not all over my face and it's not constant. However, I have DISGUSTING blackheads all over my nose..I sometimes have some on the UPPER PART of my chin..and of course the pores on my cheeks and my forehead could definitely use some REDUCING, but overall, even in these areas, my skin is NOT oily..just clogged (if that's the right word) in the T-zone a bit...and the rest of my face is DRY! Used to be only in the winter, but now I have to use a heavy moisturizer on my face all year!! Would Mandelic probably NOT be for me due to the drying effect? I would only put it on the problem area (my nose) and although I'd like my larger pores on my cheeks and forehead to close, these areas really aren't oily at all..they're quite dry.

I hope this post made sense, as I might be rambling a bit. But again, I am very new to this site and so don't really understand all of the terminology yet.

Thanks so much for your help & advice!! (Also, I have NOT gone to the site that LionQueen keeps mentioning yet, but will do so now.) wub.gif

I also have another question. After reading a lot of threads and hearing the term 'jessfoliation' so much, I decided to try to find out what it is - but I can't really figure it out. (The thread that had all the info and was later closed is now not accessible, I guess it's been erased?) I assume it is where you exfoliate your face with either a soft toothbrush or facebrush. Does it HAVE to be electric? Is that just better for it? Also, I noticed quite a few posts saying that you need to use a less harsh cleanser when doing that, so I'd like to know what the heck I should use! LOL ALSO, I've also been reading about how some cleansers really are too harsh (even when you think they aren't) and so I'm wondering if anyone can give me any recommendations? ESPECIALLY because I JUST ordered a sample of the mandelic acid and applied it last night to my problem areas...and woke up with very tight feeling skin.

I'm also wondering about this jojoba oil, emu oil, tea trea oil and all the other things people keep mentioning. I also wondered what EFAs were! Are these effective for different things?

I usually use all Mary Kay products, but recently got enticed into buying Clean & Clear's oxygenating cleanser (it sounded really cool...lol). The cleanser leaves my face feeling nice and soft, but I don't know if this might be too harsh to use with the mandelic...also, with the jessfoliation. And, last, but not least, my skin (as I mentioned above) is really not acne-prone, though I do break out in a few spots a few times a month. It has become much drier in the past year, so I've got to use a deeper moisturizer, and I've been using a balancing moisturizer by Mary Kay, but maybe I need something more intense? But I certainly don't want the areas of my face that HAVE clogged pores (my nose is the worst and is why I discovered acne.org) to become MORE clogged...Any suggestions?

ALSO, i have these little bumps under my skin on my right cheek that have been there FOREVER. A derm (the only one I ever saw and the only time I ever saw one...LOL) did some cortizone shots to them waaay back in 1999 and said it was a ruptured hair follicle, but honestly, the bumps never left. So I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas about what this could be?

Thank you again for your guys' help and if you know of where I can find answers to my questions instead of you having to re-answer my questions, please feel free to point the way?? Please feel free to PM me, too!! Thank you!!

Hi Rachel!

I finally found your posts, as you see. There's another mandelic thread (a really huge one) in the Blackheads forum, and I was looking over there. Sorry, I'd kind of forgotten about this one.

To avoid excessive drying, you'd want to use the alcohol-free mandelic serum from Garden of Wisdom (www.gardenofwisdom.com). If you don't mind some initial cash outlay, I suggest getting both the 10% and 15% serums and mixing them. I find that 12-12.5% is just about perfect in terms of being effective without peeling all the skin off my face.

I think that Clean & Clear cleanser is not right for you. I wouldn't use anything from Mary Kay either. I have a few different cleanser recommendations:

-- Rosehip cleanser from www.dianayvonne.com (nice for dry skin)
-- Mild oatmeal cleanser from www.lindasy.com (this is what I use)
-- CSR cleanser, available on this site (very mild, non-irritating, and cost-effective)

You are right about jessfoliation: it is gentle manual exfoliation with a soft brush. I find that the electric toothbrush works extremely well, and that's what I use. If you have dry skin, though, DO NOT jessfoliate with cleanser. I use a mild enzyme peel to help soften the dead skin so the brush can whisk it away. I consider this to be an extremely important part of my regimen, since both the active products I use (Green Cream and mandelic acid) can cause dead skin to build up on my face if I don't exfoliate.

The bumps on your face could be clogged pores ... hard to say.

EFAs are a supplement: essential fatty acids. Omega 3s are the most important. I suggest taking fish oil supplements, they are wonderful for your skin, especially since you suffer from dryness.

I am suspicious of your Mary Kay moisturizer. I suggest that you get a sample of Linda Sy's Dry Skin Moisturizer (www.lindasy.com) and see how you like it. When I first started using retinol and AHAs, that stuff saved my life ... and now that winter is coming, I may need it again.

Don't bother with jojoba or tea tree oils. Emu oil is something you might want to check out ... a drop or two added to your moisturizer could really help protect your dry skin. You can get samples at www.dianayvonne.com; I like the Ultra Emu.

Thank you so much for your help!! You are so sweet and awesome for helping out so much!!

I'll definitely take your recommendations under consideration (by buying samples..ha ha!). I had already gone to the Linda Sy website and was extremely interested in the oatmeal cleanser...and also their lipids lotion (I think that's what it was?)...and I'll def. try the dry skin moisturizer....so I think I'll shell out the $10 and get the samples! If there is anything else on there that you'd recommend, please let me know, as I still have one more product to add to that 'sample bundle.'

Also, I had been taking fish oil pills, but they were gross so I stopped..ha ha! But I'll do it again since I *KNOW* it's important!! I def. don't get enough in my diet!

And I got the 10% alcohol-free mandelic...I see some drying, but no purging yet...but it's only the second day I've done it and I haven't Jessfoliated yet. I'll do that. As for the enzyme peel, are they really expensive? Right now I'm a poor college student on a budget. (When I say poor, I mean it - I can hardly afford to buy food sometimes...LOL!!! (poor me, right? eusa_boohoo.gif ))

Anyway..thanks again for your help! smile.gif

Can you get this Mandelic acid over the counter (in a local pharmacy)? Or can I find it in some OTC products (in other words somewhere other than online)?
Thanks!

I've never seen a mandelic acid product in a pharmacy. Some of them might be sold through spas and aestheticians. Try googling MaMa lotion and NuCelle and see what you can come up with.

As soon as I started reading about mandelic acid, I knew I had to try it. The trouble was, the first MA product I tried really does not work well with Green Cream -- and I LOVE Green Cream and will not give it up! I could see that the MA was zapping the blackheads and tightening my pores, but unfortunately it was also burning my skin -- which is not supposed to happen. Mandelic is a very mild AHA.

Anyway, I finally found a new MA product that I can use with retinoids, and I am just loving it. My pores are tighter and clearer than I ever thought possible and my blackheads are almost entirely extinct.

I used to use Mendalic Acid products for a year & it aged my skin terribly. It did work on the acne but my skin was always dry & rough. One nurse told me that although the product works well it speeds up the aging process, so when you stop your skin will look tired & abused. I do want to give green cream a try, it sounds wonderful.

Which product did you use? Sounds like it was much too harsh for your skin. I had the exact same trouble with the 15% serum once winter set in, which is why I'm using BHAs instead right now.

That nurse had it wrong ..... it doesn't speed up the aging process ... it just exfoliates your skin. But when your skin gets really dehydrated and rough, it definitely looks older!

Wow, im late in this thread. I am really really interested in this Mandelic Acid though. I used Salicylic acid for a year at the least and never saw results with it. It could of been a bad product, but this stuff still looks more appealing. What do you mean by "clogged pores" I know someone else asked that to but im not sure if i get clogged pores. I dont really have any blackheads at all, i mostly get breakouts, like whiteheads. I assume they are called pustules and thats what i have. I dont know, really, ive just always called them whiteheads. Would this stuff be good against that type of acne?

I went to the websites that everyone suggested, the Nucelle is what i like best, just because it says more for sensitive skin, and their whole marine based thingy. Does anyone know if nucelle is alcohol free though? i didnt see any type of alcohol in the ingredients list, but i dont know if they give it some scientific name, haha.

Anyway, does anyone else have the same problems as me and seen good results with mandelic??? any help would be great, thanks to everyone
