wOULD MANDELIC ACID BE A GOOD TREATMENT FOR MY SKIN? I have more frequent breakouts before my period as in th photos..horrible, so Im prob estrogen dominant looking into DIM, but I have uneven skin on the sides by my jawline its alot of red spots, and Im hoping is this treatment gentle enough not to irate breakouts but would help even out skin tone? THanks

Mandelic will help clear out your pores and exfoliate your skin, so that should help lessen your monthly breakouts. And it will also help even out the skin tone. As to irritation- I guess that depends on how sensitive your skin is and how strong of a mandelic product you use. If you try it, I would get a lower strength product (10%) and start off using it every other night and see how your skin responds.

You also might consider trying Finacea. It does a lot of the same things mandelic does, but is probably a little bit more effective at reducing inflammation, killing bacteria and reducing redness. It is a prescription medication in the U.S and some other places, but it is an OTC medication in Australia (and can be legally purchased from an online Australian pharmacy).

So what is the diff between the mandelic acid and the glycolic acid like in the AHA sold here. Do they both serve the same pupose in clearing up acne and red marks? Can the be used the same way as an applicator/mositurizer daily?

No - its not really comparable to Dan's glycolic for a couple of reasons. The two ingredients act somewhat differently on the skin - both exfoliate at the surface of the skin, so that is great for release acne impactions and getting rid of dead skin. Mandelic is better at pentrating the pores (kind of like salicylic acid does), so it is better at clearing and preventing clogged pores. Mandelic also has antibacterial activies, which glycolic does not.

Also, Dan's AHA has a moisturizing/hydrating base -AHAs generally do not come in a moisturizing base (and I don't know of any mandelics that do) - they are usually serums or toners. Acids like glycolic and mandelic are not moisturizing agents - they are exfoliants.

So from reading that, madelic acid is the better way to go in clearing up acne and perhaps the red marks left after?

Personally, I much prefer mandelic to glycolic. I did find that my skin did benefit somewhat from glycolic, but my results with mandelic have been better. I think it clears out acne lesions better and is more effective at reducing red marks The biggest downside to mandelic is the cost - all mandelic products are fairly pricey (mandelic is made from almonds - and almonds are expensive!).

I decided to give the mandelic a try.

I've been using Paula's 2% BHA since I read about it in one of LQ's threads two years ago. It worked really well at first but for whatever reason it seems less and less effective as time goes on.

I've been using the Vivant mandelic serum for three days now. I had a hard time putting it on the first day. It absorbs so quickly it feels like I don't have a chance to spread it and cover everywhere. The past two days I put some of the Paula's BHA gel on first then spread the mandelic a few minutes later.

I'm already noticing some very mild peeling. No redness underneath though, only smooth skin.

Its a great cleanser - I don't know if it will be strong enough to get rid of clogged pores though. It doesn't stay on the skin very long, and I think the mandelic concentration is fairly low. I have used it as a body cleanser for folliculitis and also occasionally as a hair shampoo.

I had the same problems with applying the Vivant product - its hard to spread before it sinks into the skin. I think it is because of the form of alcohol it uses. The alcohol helps the mandelic to penetrate quickly and the alcohol also very rapidly evaporates from the skin (which makes it less irritating and drying to the skin). Its probably one of the best mandelic products out there though.

I just orded the small Mandelic Acid from Dianayvonne as well as a sample of Green Cream.

I have some very stubborn Blackheads and not just on my face.

I'm mid thirties so I'm also interested in anything anti ageing

I'm hoping to be able to cut down on the Benzoyl Peroxide and substitute these products instead

What advice would you give me?

Can anyone chime in and mention which product is their favorite? Someone who preferably has tried a few of them.

So far I've tried Vivant and a small bottle of 15% GOW with seaweed and no alcohol.

The Vivant seems to work well, I peeled a little. It seems very heavy on the alcohol and also is very drying. Even the GoW brand with alcohol only has 15% of it so I expect it would be more gentle.

I just applied some of the seaweed/no alcohol GoW stuff. It was easier to apply and my skin feels more calm, but less tight. I think the tightness that the Vivant gives is more from the high alcohol than the mandelic though. The GoW without alcohol still burned slightly and I know the acid is working because any flaky patches of skin turn white when you apply it.

So I'm leaning towards GoW brand. They offer literally around 10 different versions though. Anyone have a favorite they can suggest?

The only advice I can give is be very careful with the green cream. I used their products for two months. For the first couple weeks I was peeling but still very happy with it. All of the new skin underneath was glowing and looked healthy. Things were coming out of my skin that I didn't even know I had.

Things got bad around the one-month mark. I started what they call the "purging" phase. They tell you to give it a month and it will pass. I did just that. I gave it one long month with my skin looking terrible. I was getting very large cyst looking pimples which I have never had in all of my 15 years of having acne. My skin was also extremely sensitive to UV and I normally never sunburn at all. I'm olive complected. I had to make the decision to jump off the green cream train. It took months for my skin to return to normal. The green cream effectively removes most of the epidermis. To be honest I wish I had never used it. Though I do admit if I would have stuck with it maybe now 8 months later my skin would be doing well, but the extreme sun sensitivity and extended purging phase were too much for me. I didn't have another X number of months to not leave the house because of purging skin.

The purging aspect really scares me but the benefits sound so good. I'm very pale and sunburn easily so I stay well out of the sun.In fact they promote staying out of the Sun here because it's so strong and does so much damage. Some very scary ads on television.

I've used Skinceuticals retinol before and didn't really have any problems with that.

Can only try and hope

This ain't magic, man. No product on the face of this earth will remove your acne/whiteheads/blackheads for good and in one application.

So im going to switch to a regimen of: BHA at night and something in the morning. I am really confused if i should use AHA (dans) or MA. I have moderate acne (some inflamed acne, a lot of blackheads and red marks) and normal skin type. Im 20 and Male. Also, im kind of worried about the MA getting less effective because of immunity towards its anti-bacterial properties. id appreciate any help!

If the alcohol within the serum can irritate the skin, what purpose does it serve?

I am using green cream only at night! Have u used the mandelic acid? I am looking at the website.

Can anyone recommend a mandelic acid cleanser preferably from a UK based company?

Is there a huge difference between mandelic acid and lactic acid?

Thanks.

Just looked at the M2 skincare range. It is so expensive in the UK. £35 for the cleanser, and £55 for the 12% serum, double what you pay in the US.

AM:

Cleanse (the minute I get up!)
Mandelic acid 10% (then wait 30 minutes)
Green Cream 6 or 9 (then wait 30 minutes)
DMAE, emu oil, hyaluronic acid, sunscreen

PM:

Cleanse (right before or after dinner, usually)
Mandelic acid 10% (then wait 30 minutes)
CP serum (then wait 5 minutes)
Retin A or Diacneal (I am alternating nights between the two)

Can anyone recommend any good brand names of the products listed above? I want to start this regimen soon but there are tons of products for each.

I did some searching around and found what I was looking for. However, I still need a suggestion for Retin A. There are multiple strengths and I'm not sure which one to go for. I'll be using it along with the products I listed in my post.
