Tattoo's and acne

and i dont think you could get a tattoo ruined by acne because its so deep under the skin, ive had some bacne on my tatt and it didnt have any lasting effect, i've also given it a 2nd degree sunburn (dont ask!) with grape sized blisters full of fluid on my back too at one point and that healed up nicely (i was terrified i would see the tattoo on the outside of the blister bubbles but no thank god it was underneath them) and it didnt effect the tattoo. the reason a tatttoo stays on is cos the ink is injected below the part of the skin that sheds/renews so it will always be there. and although it goes in as ink the skin cells absorb the ink over time and are permanently stained so holes etc are impossible as this ink isnt going anywhere once its become part of your back, and all that acne and shit happens to the skin above the tattoo.

with regard to colour change i wouldjust like to mention that when i got mine i specified i wanted a black one because all the tatts i had seen were a kind of dark green colour and i didnt want this, sure enough ten years down the track my black tattoo has become a kind of dark green colour (not green but not black either) and the crisp lines are slightly blurred compared to what they were. so the black ink will go in black and shiny when its fresh, and then fade to that classic dark green colour, just so you know

As far as the black goes it is all in how you protect your tattoo and what inks were used. Your black turning to green sounds like sun fade to me. If you don't put sun screen on your tattoos they will fade with time in the sun and black is notorious for turning dark green after seeing lots of sun over the years. If you protect your tats you shouldn't have a problem at all so don't be scared to go for black/grey work.
And pretty much the only way to ruin a tattoo is from getting burned, scarred, deep cuts, or getting sun damage. If you have acne on a tattoo as long as you dont pick at it and it doesn't scar there really shouldnt be a problem. You may experience a little ink loss where the spot was if it was really bad, but nothing major. And tattoos can always be touched up so I wouldn't really worry.

It'll go all the way down the arm, and it goes into the shoulder and part of the way down the back... I wish I only had 4 hours to go... but its more like 12. It's the entire solar system... yes I am a dork.
Then I got another arm!

Hello, my Handle is MoonShin Tattoo .This is my business in Mississauga. As you can tell I am a tattooist. I a surprised about this message board and thought to write a quick message.
Concerning skin problems and having been tattooed.
In my line of work I hear many stories about tattoos and acne. A tattooist rules out tattooing over areas prone to acne, it is like an old wise tale.Ie have heard every story about bad skin etc..
My question is what is the final outcome. Tattooing over this area, then looking at it 1-7 year anys later. Hopefully. If anyone can help me on this, lets start a thread and talk on this.
I will check in tomorrow
Thanks again,
MooonShin Tattoo

Im not sure what your question about the final outcome is to be honest....you say that a tattooist rules out tatooing over acne prone area's but what if it is just acne scars?

Hi Hawkeye,
This is MoonShin.
Acne scars are far more improved then keloid scaring. This is a belief in the world of tattooing. Is this true or untrue? I really do not know, I guess this is why I am on this board.
Tattooing over a much raised keloid scar will produce hazy lines in the skin. Depending on the injury of the dermis, it can be unattainable for years. The skin is never completely healed, so the ink will for all time will spider out. Will this be the same with acne scaring?
I do know that anywhere a tattoo is placed a few considerations are a must. Hurt and damaged skin does not hold the ink well. What will the tattoo look like in 7 years is the question I am really looking for.

I am due to start accutane by end of this month for my troublesome acne i get on my chest, back and back of neck areas.
However I want to get a tatoo done on my inside right arm. Someting I have always wanted for yers. I am currently just taking trimethoprim tablets twice a day (One in am and one at night) for me acne.
Would it be advisable to get a tatoo done while im currently on this medication and due to start accutane by next month?
Hope you can help.
Thanks,
Pranay
