Microdermabrasion? Is it good or bad?

I am getting microdermabrasion done this weekend. I am oily, acne prone skin. Will this cause me to have a big breakout?
Has anyone had good results with it. I am getting it done at a spa so I am hoping the results are good.

Its good for getting rid of dead skin. I only got a couple done, I personally wasn't impressed, but everyone's different. You might really benefit from it.
Good luck

In all reality most microdermabrasion treatments will not do anything to improve scarring. At rare times depending on the operator/machine it can be very aggressive. In skilled hands aggressive ones can be beneficial for scarring but in most cases aggressive ones pretty much 9 out of 10 times will scar you more. I think the only member I have ever seen that had significant positive results from this treatment was magneticxboy. Unless you go see his specific Dr. you are in very high risking throwing away your money or further damaging your skin.
thanks but what about red marks? and my scarring seeems to be dead tissue buildup. Im not sure if thats really scarring and u mean it will make it worse??? oh nooooooooo

i had a full course at a beauty salon, it was painful and i got scabs on my face, they took away too much skin in some areas so my skin looked very uneven with more scars. it has ruined my life and i cant warn people enough about how dangerous it is.

My advice is to avoid microdermabrasion. It strips your skin and makes it more prone to sun damage. If your redmarks are new leave them alone they will fade soon enough. Doing much else will continue to irritate and damage your skin. There is a whole section devoted to redmarks on this forum. Check it out but becareful. Alot of that stuff can irritate your skin and prolongs your redness.
Use a sunblock that doesn't break you out. That is my advice.

Microdermabrasion is nothing more than a glorified deep scrub. For older or tired looking skin you can obtain nice but short lasting results concerning overall complexion.

Scarring from a normal microderm? Never heard of that. I like microderms, although my skin flakes for 4-5 days after. It is also uncomfortable afterward feeling like the skin is irritated adn sunburnt.
yep!!! its so fucking hyped up and i was the one who suffered!

Dont get micros done at a spa--they usually don't know what they are doing better than a doctors office. Dermabrasion which is different has a higher chance of causing further scarring, micros are about 99.9% of the time more beneficial than bad. Those who scarred, are the EXTREME minority.
I second not getting it done at a spa or beauty salon. You have to go to a Dr.'s office. They are more skilled and know what they're doing. You are courting discaster if you have it done at a spa, JMO.
It is fraudulent to advertise claims that microdermabrasion reduces the appearance of acne scarring. It doesn't. I had it done about 12 times with zippo results regarding acne scarring. And my scarring is not to deep.

I had improvement in my scars when I had it done. It took 6-8 to start to see any improvement. The skin was smoother, pores smaller, scarred pores almost non-existent. It plumped up my skin enough that it made my scars look a lot better. That was three years ago, however. If I get it done, I'll report what happens this time.

Considering what I've read here about people's experience with it at the hands of the esteticians, I'm happy I did it myself.
