Just wanted to ask a question, mainly to Dan.
Are you sure you are recommending the right cleansing bar?
According to the 'become an acne detective', see the list on http://www.zerozits....es/article6.htm a couple of the ingredients in the purpose bar that you recommend using are actually very comedogenic.
The reason I noticed was that since starting the regimen and getting all the peeling and dry skin I noticed that I was actually getting more breakouts and that the soap alone was really tightening my skin. When I checked this list I thought that might be the reason. Sodium chloride in particular is apparently very comedogenic. But then that does not explain how the regimen seems to be working for so many!
Any insights?
flaw in the regime?

The purpose bar is not meant to be left on your skin for a long period of time. You don't really have to worry too much about the ingredients being comedogenic because it's end up being washed off your face anyways.

Also, just had to add that Dan is not forcing people to use the purpose bar. It's mainly a reccomendation. If you don't feel comfortable using it then find something that you're comfortable with.

It also depends on the amount.
Same way as you won't get fat if you jus eat a fragment of chocolate.

Lists of comedogenic ingredients do more harm than good. They scare people without prudent scientific back up.
Comedogenicity is most often tested on the ears of albino rabbits in 100% strength. If an ingredient is comedogenic at 100% strength on an albino rabbit's ear, how does that translate to a human being's skin at 1% for instance? Who knows. If you were to avoid the ingredients on these well meaning, but irresponsible "comedogenic" lists, you could hardly pick up a product at the pharmacy at all.
I've been using purpose for 7 years and have loved it the whole time. No problems. I have many personal friends using it, and they love it. I coached 12 out of 13 before-and-after candidates successfully with the use of purpose. It will not cause breakouts.

Thanks for your views everyone! Dan, you obviously know your stuff and have done a lot of research on this, so I appreciate you sharing your insights.
I amactually not using the purpose cleanser, but a neutrogena bar which has very similar ingredients.
I don't really know why I am still breaking out in my third week. Could it be the over-drying of my skin and I need to use a gentler bar/cleanser?
What is happening to me at the moment is that every time I try to up the dose I am using, I suddenly really irritate my skin and it becomes really tight just after one time of using more than usual. Then I find I cannot smile because I start cracking up - not me, my chin! Literally - cracks everywhere. So I've had to stop using BP for the second time since I started the regimen to wait for my skin to go back to normal.
Do you think this disruption and irritation is causing my break out? And if so, what can I do? ( I can't put BP on my skin when it is so irritated and dry). Once i start again after the disruption is that like starting all over again from scratch, i.e. back to week 1, in terms of the results to expect?
If it is related to my choice of cleansing bar, can anyone recommend something gentler and more sensitive that I can find in London?
Cheers!

I use Wrights Coal Tar soap bar... but there's also the Neutrogena bars... the Dry Skin one is less drying than the Acne Prone Skin one... obviously.
There's loads to choose from, jus pick one an test it, that's all i do for ANY kind of product.
I'd personally say stay away from Dove soap, it's got a kind of wax that leaves a film on your face... that's the 'moisturiseing' shit they harp on about. It's pretty good at blocking pores tho. But by all means TRY IT, i won't tell you not to try anything if u haven't already.
What works for one might not for another, etc.

I jus re-read an realised you're already on a Neutrogena bar, which one are you using?
Also, are you using the full finger of BP that Dan suggests? If so then cut back to half a finger.
Ya know Dan, i'm beginning to think that the Oxy stuff us Brits have is more drying than the Neutrogena On-The-Spot... could be the difference in inactive ingredients.
If it doesn't let up, then i think you could try my BP once a day method... but do what i said above first an see how you go.
If all else fails, ask again, lol.

Well, these message boards really are helpful. By going onto different forums and viewing different topics, I realised that the reason i am probably breaking out still is because i am using panoxyl aquagel BP - which most people are finding very drying and irritating, and that is what I have been using! so, mystery solved - at least for now!
Also, I have been using neutrogena bar soap for oily/spot prone skin, so that explains a lot. I will change to something milder.
For people who are still breaking out it might be useful to ask them exactly what products they have chosen because some are more harmful than others and do make a big difference in the results they get.
The products are important!
