OK, all joking aside, I too have heard this. One source indicated applying it on the skin. Another source indicated drinking it. I draw the line at drinking urine. But when I was a teenager, I actually did apply it to my face for quite a while. Gross, yes. But my older brother had such severe acne that I would have tried anything to avoid that fate! At the time my skin wasn't bad. Was it the urine? I did develop bad skin years down the road, but somehow, never thought back to urine. I was too busy taking antibiotics and filling perscriptions.

Semen isn't urine. Unless you're maybe 10 years old. There might be a little urine washed out with the semen, but yeah. And... unless you're weird and into that shit, I don't think semen typically gets on the chick's face....

let's go on wikipedia....
QUOTE
Urine is made up of a watery solution of metabolic wastes (such as urea), dissolved salts and organic materials.

QUOTE
...contains high concentrations of urea and other excess or potentially toxic substances that will be released from the body via urination.

QUOTE
Urine contains large amounts of urea, an excellent source of nitrogen for plants. As such it is a useful accelerator for compost. Urea is 10,000 times less toxic than ammonia and is a byproduct of deamination (2 NH3 molecules) and cellular respiration's (1 CO2 molecule) products combining together. Other components include various inorganic salts such as sodium chloride (the discharge of sodium through urine is known as "natriuresis".)

I can see how urine could be a fertilizer for plants, but I only know this in the context of aquatic plants, but plants are plants are plants. Plants consume the products of the phases of the nitrogen cycle (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate). That doesn't mean these things are safe, they're toxic to humans. In an aquarium, if any of these levels get too high, the fish will die, but the plants will thrive.

It also contains salt, which might be anti-bacterial I guess in helping with acne?
But if you're trying to fertilize a plant with your urine, that salt could kill it eventually.

QUOTE
Depending on the person's acid-base status, the pH of urine may range from 4.5 to 8.

The pH might also effect how the urine interacts with the person's skin.

So I think basically urine is kiling bacteria. There are better ways of doing this.

Urea is actually used in quite a few skin care products. You may be applying something else's piss to your face without knowing it. I'd rather it be mine than some animals though, how bout you?

According to the US army, urine, when first released from the body is sterile, it can be used to DISINFECT and CLEAN wounds, but I wouldn't go around pissing on myself! lol Smells funky.

My parents always tell me to use urine on your face to help with your acne. There has to be reasons why or else why would they say it.

So I researched and typed in "acne urine" in google. I came up with

http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/urine.htm

I think St, Ives apricots contains urea. So do many other facial stuff.

So don't say crap about this until you did your research with science backing you up.

the Journal of the American Medical Association (July issue) reported that "More scientific papers have probably been published on urine than on any other organic compound." Another publication revealed that "more than 1,000 technical and scientific papers, related only to low molecular weight substances in urine, appeared in medical and scientific literature in one single year." All this fuss about a substance that we're told is nothing more than a body waste?

Can anyone refute this? ^

surely this wouldn't be the case if it were all a hoax..

"Clinical studies have proved that the thousands of critical body chemicals and nutrients that end up in urine reflect the individual body's functions. When re-utilised, these chemicals and nutrients act as natural vaccines, antibacterial, antiviral and anticarcinogenic agents as well as hormone balancers and allergy relievers. The information that urine contains therefore cannot be duplicated or derived from any other source. Just as nature produces no two people who are exactly the same, there are no two urine samples in the world that contain exactly the same components" Nexus Magazine

People, why are we bothering with urine when there are proven/available and affordable acne products out there?

If i tryed antibiotics, topical retinoids, BP/SA/Azelaic acid and acutane, all with failure- then i might look into urine.
Untill then i strongly urge you all to try other alternatives, for a couple of reasons:

1] Would you shake someone hand if they didn't wash there hands after going to the toilet?
Same thing with drenching your face in urine, it might not bother you, but if offends others- considering its not my piss.

2] Evan if it does have antibacterial properties, it would have to be applied as often and liberally as the clear skin regime. That means your gonna need a shitload of urine to apply day and night, and this aint stuff you pick up at your local drug store, your going to have to make it and store it some where, whats mum gonna say when she finds your 'lemonade' bottle in the fridge and serves it to some guests?

3] Not all urine is clean, notice sometimes its clear and sometimes its yellow?

4] Acne is a disease which affects the way you look, would it be wise to replace that with the stench of urine?

5] I have applied a glycolic + urea product on my face many a year ago. Urea may help with acne, but not enough to make it a suitable acne product, you need something much more stronger. I noticed a slight reduction in my acne, urine aint gonna be different, its just not strong enough.

and no, i dont think your freaks, merley desperate to find a cure, which is understandable.... but please make this a last resort!

I know how gross urine is but it has cured or helped a lot with different types of condition.

"merley desperate to find a cure, which is understandable.... but please make this a last resort!"

Guys, it's highly doubtful that you will find good anecdotal evidence of urine therapy on this board, mainly due to the stigma that society insists are related to the subject. After the topic came up here, I began doing a lot research on the subject and would like to share what I know, these are my own words.

The fact is, urine is the single most studied compound in the world. Why is it studied more than any other compound in the world's history, if it were simply human waste? That's because it is not waste. Throughout history it's been used as a miraculous panacea (aka-cure all medicine) for every condition known to man. That means that it always works, every time, for every disease. Nothing else can make this claim, yet URINE does, and it's not a joke.

The evidence to support it is overwhelming. The reason you haven't heard about it is because we're raised to depend on pharmaceuticals, which cost money. Drinking your own pee is free. haha. I think this information may be especially important information to know in days of bioterrorism and uncertainty about emerging diseases (like SARS and avian flu shock.gif ).

Urine is not a waste product, and ingesting it has antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal benefits. An individual's urine contains person-specific, essential and vital nutrients, hormones, enzymes, antibodies, vitamins, minerals, and other compounds that science has not even discovered yet. In one year alone there were over 1,000 scientific journal articles published only about low-molecular weight substances found in human urine.

The reason these things are vital but are expelled by your body is because they are simply not needed by your body at that specific time. However, when re-ingested, human urine acts as a cure-all medicine for any ailment that the human body can suffer. Before being expelled urine goes through an unbelievably complicated process of being changed as it filters through myriad tiny tubes that somehow inject all of the listed nutrients and compounds and the resulting filtered liquid is actually the healthiest thing that you can drink.
the ingredients listed below are only a few critical nutrients found in urine:
Alanine, total ..... 38 mg/day

Arginine, total ..... 32 mg/day

Ascorbic acid ..... 30 mg/day

Allantoin ..... 12 mg/day

Amino acids, total ..... 2.1 g/day

Bicarbonate ..... 140 mg/day

Biotin ..... 35 mg/day

Calcium ..... 23 mg/day

Creatinine ..... 1.4 mg/day

Cystine ..... 120 mg/day

Dopamine ..... 0.40 mg/day

Epinephrine ..... 0.01 mg/day

Folic acid ..... 4 mg/day

Glucose ..... 100 mg/day

Glutamic acid ..... 308 mg/day

Glycine ..... 455 mg/day

Inositol ..... 14 mg/day

Iodine ..... 0.25 mg/day

Iron ..... 0.5 mg/day

Lysine, total ..... 56 mg/day

Magnesium ..... 100 mg/day

Manganese ..... 0.5 mg/day

Methionine, total ..... 10 mg/day

Nitrogen, total ..... 15 g/day

Ornithine ..... 10 mg/day

Pantothenic acid ..... 3 mg/day

Phenylalanine ..... 21 mg/day

Phosphorus, organic ..... 9 mg/day

Potassium ..... 2.5 mg/day

Proteins, total ..... 5 mg/day

Riboflavin ..... 0.9 mg/day

Tryptophan, total ..... 28 mg/day

Tyrosine, total ..... 50 mg/day

Urea ..... 24.5 mg/day

Vitamin B6 ..... 100 mg/day

Vitamin B12 ..... 0.03 mg/day

Zinc ..... 1.4 mg/day

I don't blame anyone for refusing to believe any of this, because they'd be like the majority of the world: convinced by the medical and pharmaceutical industry that they have all the answers to your problems-just pop a pill or 5 and your problems will be all better. I was like this too and on the errant occasion that I'd hear about someone practicing "urine therapy" I thought that sounded gross.

I'll admit, Urine Therapy may be too drastic to consider for most people with acne, but for those with cancer, tuberculosis, nerve damage, etc various other ailments who find modern medicine lacking, it's the only thing that works because it always seems to work-in the clinical studies and anectdotal reports. and I think it may be good to keep an open mind about the subject, as we never know when/if the bird flu will hit, and if drinking your own urine is the only thing that could keep you from dying, I think that's something people have a right to know.

I expect flaming and "I'd rather die than ever drink my own urine" lol
