i just came across this abstract and thought you all might be interested. it basically says that jojoba oil showed anti-inflammatory properties in various animal models. i tried the jojoba/tea tree oil thing a while back without much luck but I do think jojoba oil is one of the safer lipids for the skin, and i'm planning on using it in a homemade topical formulation for myself.

Anti-inflammatory effects of jojoba liquid wax in experimental models.

Pharmacol Res. 2005 Feb;51(2):95-105

Habashy RR, Abdel-Naim AB, Khalifa AE, Al-Azizi MM.

Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt.

Jojoba [Simmondsia chinensis (Link 1822) Schneider 1907] is an arid perennial shrub grown in several American and African countries. Jojoba seeds, which are rich in liquid wax, were used in folk medicine for diverse ailments. In the current study, the potential anti-inflammatory activity of jojoba liquid wax (JLW) was evaluated in a number of experimental models. Results showed that JLW caused reduction of carrageenin-induced rat paw oedema in addition to diminishing prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) level in the inflammatory exudates. In a test for anti-inflammatory potential utilizing the chick's embryo chroioallantoic membrane (CAM), JLW also caused significant lowering of granulation tissue formation. Topical application of JLW reduced ear oedema induced by croton oil in rats. In the same animal model, JLW also reduced neutrophil infiltration, as indicated by decreased myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity. In addition, JLW ameliorated histopathological changes affected by croton oil application. In the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation in air pouch in rats, JLW reduced nitric oxide (NO) level and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) release. In conclusion, this study demonstrates the effectiveness of JLW in combating inflammation in several experimental models. Further investigations are needed to identify the active constituents responsible for the anti-inflammatory property of JLW.

My daughter has alot of bumps like you mention on her forehead and sides of her face - kind of by the hairline too. Is the Jojoba oil helping this - she's currently using Klaron and it is not doing much anymore. When you said you broke out the 2nd week - did you get more of the bumps or were they red and inflamed?

are we referring to the same kind of bumps? mine is colourness and tiny. they occur in patches. on the forehead, temple area, and along hairline. when they dry, i can scratch off a tiny (<2mm) sebum plug. and that's usually the end of them.

and yes, i think it is helping. jojoba was the only thing i changed in my regimen, so i can doubtless say the improvement can be attributed back to jojoba. i think the key lies in taking the time to massage the oil gently onto skin, cuz it can help in dissolving these sebum plugs, i do it for about 30sec-1min. my breakout in the 2nd week was quite unusual. in less than 24 hours, my skin went from beautiful to ghastly. the breakouts were actual red inflamed pimples. i think i had 3 or 4 noticable ones, then a bunch of smaller ones scattered around. but don't let this discourage your daughter from trying it out. jojoba is such a magical and valuable oil. even if i had perfect skin i would still use it as a moisturizer, definitely better than any of those chemical mass-marketed ones. jojoba is pure and natural.

thanks for the info. I'm also going to get some NEEM oil and mix it with the Jojoba so maybe it will cut down the break out a bit. She had a really bad reaction to retin a last summer and the hear of any bad break out makes her less likely to try something.

Yes! Get Neem oil! My acne has virtually dissapeared since I started using Neem leaves, neem oil, and Jojoba oil!

Hey Everyone,

I've been using 100% organic Golden Jojoba Oil for about a month now, and My skin is near flawless! I have never had this great looking skin! Although I still get small whitheads once in a while, my face is not nearly as severe as before.

The only other product I am using is Astara Botanical Cleansing Gele, and then I apply 3 drops Jojoba, and ?I'm set for the day!!

If you guys haven't tried Jojoba, I strongly reccomend it!
snow..

what kind of acne do you have? mild/moderate?
I have moderate acne. I often get white pus pimples around my mouth and chin.
Do you think it would help me if I use jojoba oil?

thanks

Is it normal for Jojoba and TTO to make your acne like A LOT worse before better?

I mean.. My acne hasn't been very bad lately but since I started using Jojoba+TTO I've been breaking out in places I haven't ever before (like beside my nose) with red pimples that turn into white heads. I hope this goes away.. did this happen to anyone else? I've been using it for like a week and a half now.. I thought the initial breakout would be over by now.

Any words of encouragement? Will it get better after it's done getting worse, or should I stop using it and let my skin work itself?

White heads tend to heal faster than red pimples, right?

I don't think it really makes much difference as long as it is 100% pure NEEM oil. I would limit your regimine to the least amount of products possible. Currently, I've been using about 5 drops desert essence jojoba oil with about 3 drops of neem and spreading it all over my face after I wash with Cetaphil (only at night) - in the morning, I don't do anything. Been doing this for almost 3 weeks and my skin is definitely better - even though I am experiencing some breakout - but just blackheads that are coming to the surface that go away in a few days. Also doing the SCI/ART blue light therpay for almost 5 weeks - definitely less breakouts and it seems like my pores are starting to tighten up, as my spots appear pretty small on my forehead. Generally you don't start seeing drastic results until about week 6 with blue light - so I think I still have a ways to go.

I'm a bit confused with this thread. Help me out pls. It's early morning(barely awake) too so bare with me, lol.

I bought TTO & Jojoba. How am I suppose to do this. Wash my face & leave it wet. Mix the two on a cotton ball, put it on my wet face for how many minutes? Then rinse off?

Do this at night and the morning? Or just at night?

I think some people have said that applying the Jojoba and Neem oil (TTO in your case) is better on a damp face (pat off excessive water) then if it is dry as it will penetrate better, however I don't do this. I basically wash my face once a day, at night, using Cetaphil cleanser - depending on what I'm doing, I'll either apply the Jojoba and Neem shortly thereafter or later on before I go to bed. Generally, I put the drops of Jojoba and Neem in the palm of my hand, mix it with my finger and then massage it all over my face. If I don't do it immediately after I was my face, I obviously make sure my hands are clean before I do this.

After my shower in the morning - if I'm a little dry in some areas, which ususally I'm not, I will spot moisturize with cetaphil moisturizer.

I have a question...

Is it possible to mix Jojoba Oil, Tea Tree Oil, AND Evening Primrose Oil? Or is that going overboard?

ALrightz I think I'm gonna go pick up some actual jojoba oil Thursday, but my moisturizer Jergen's Natural Glow, prolly comodogenic but been using it for 2 weeks with no breakouts has Jojoba Seed Extract, is that similar to the oil? or?
