Is that your doctor or dermatologist who said that? Lymecycline did nothing for me. I found one antibiotic that worked. It was a tetracycline but then I became immune to it. Have you tried roaccutane? Because surely they should be putting you on that if nothing else it working?

I am 26.5 had acne since I was 14 but initially it was teenage spots, at about 17 is turned into adult acne all over my cheeks/jaw, in the area where you would have a beard if you were male. Had 4 courses of roaccutane but the acne keeps coming back.

Well, my acne is flaring up again, so I've been spending more time with my computer. This is interesting, especially the age distributions:

26, acne since I was about 9
I had one summer where I was pretty much acne free with no meds at 20-21. Then it went downhill again. Winters are the worst for me.

I'm 30, and didn't really get any acne until I was 18.
I felt lucky as a teenager!
Now, not so much. It's been 12 years with only very temporary improvements.

I'm a male, 26, my case is very similar to yours, didn't really get any acne until I was 19. After that, every year I was breaking out worser than before. Topical medications worked for me until my early 24. After that...well... holy c... cry.gif

What hurts the most is that I feel somehow "alone" with the problem. Very few people around here has problem with severe acne like me.

Yeah, sometimes it feels extra hard because I feel like my friends must judge me, like since none of them have acne, it must be something I'm doing wrong, like not washing my face, or eating crap.
At least teenagers have the hope that they'll grow out of it!

I'm 29. I wish my acne hadn't just come back with a vengeance after 4 years of nearly acne-free bliss. It's been like a stealth attack, out of nowhere, suddenly it is all over my face.Thank God for this site...it is the best. You guys are the best - reading all these posts, I finally feel comforted, like I'm not the only one dealing with this...which is that it sometimes feels like, walking around...why does EVERYONE seem to have clear skin?

Hi willconquer,
I TOTALLY hear ya!! I know exactly what you mean, it does seem like everyone around you has perfect skin. It can make you feel so insecure and can negatively affect your self esteem. Having to wear makeup all of the time is so annoying and expensive, considering the best products for acne prone skin is the most expensive!! I'm a 29 year old female and apparently (according to the various derms I've seen over the past couple of years) I have hormonal acne. I rarely broke out in my teens, so to start having acne at the age of 26 was extremely frustrating. I was on spironolactone but have recently started on Accutane (isotretinoin). I think I'm in the middle of month 3. I've seen a vast improvement with the Accutane, so although my lips and skin are very dry, I would recommend it. It's expensive, but after all of the money I've spent on facials and products over the years, it's comparitively inexpensive. Hang in there, I think it'll get better, it just takes time. And feel free to vent anytime! I agree with you, this site is such a life saver, its a great relieft to know that there are others out there suffering from this.
Take care!! smile.gif

31 here. Just started this fun acne mess about 18 months ago. 14 months ago, got a doctor to test me for thyroid problems, which run rampant in my family. Might be low. Didn't do much. With my lovely new insurance, as of December 1st, I went to a lovely new doctor. Who looked at my family history and about passed out that I wasn't tested for the right things.

My TSH is normal. And that's about it. I'm hypo-pit and have Hashimoto's. So now those are trying to get whipped into shape, and maybe that'll help the break outs.
