Read the stuff that Labgirl posts...my gathering is that silicone-based foundations are the best for acne-prone skin.
Here, read this
i prsonally think any makeup is not good..but i use laura mercier oil free now..or many ppl swear by bare minerals..i just like the feeling of medium coverage..and Laura mercier has a silky feel about it.. i recommend also steam facials if u are wearing makeup everyday...just to empty the pores and not too put ur face under water too often...i have really sensiitve skin that aggravates easily and all the cleansing, re-applying makeup, wasnt doing me any real favours..

That's only if you must wear a liquid foundation (I favor those "mineral' makeups...or no makeup at all). I think they're better than traditional foundations that use soap systems as emulsifiers (due to pH issues mainly). Silicone emulsifiers shouldn't interact with skin lipids the way that the soap systems do, since they favor mostly silicones and not other lipids, like the ones in human skin. I think water based ones are okay if they are polymer stabalized (like the new pure makeup from maybelline...that one's pretty cool, but too drying for me.)

I have had acne for a while and I find it frustrating finding a makeup that will not clog and aggravate acne but also cover well. I have really persistent acne and I want to find a make up that works and i can keep using. It seems if i have tried tons of different brands and different textures. I was wondering if you have any suggestions for my make-up deliema?
Well, here's an awesome article on the bad/pore clogging ingredients in makeup. . .

I wore estee lauder when I had bad acne. Then I eased it up later on and used almay. Now I don't wear foundation at all. I'd rec. using a good concealer on your spots and let go of the foundation if possible. Work on making your skin better instead of covering it up with a bunch of makeup. Besides, I think concealer and no foundation looks better than foundation that doesn't work just right for you.

I haven't posted in forever, but I have struggled to find a good foundation too. I finally found one that looks natural, covers(i have red marks and a few old spots), and i have not broken out. I usually itch from makeup and i can't use mineral, or anything with "cone" in the ingredient list. So, for 3 weeks i've been using Cover Girl(which i've never been able to use) it's new and it's 50% water. CG Pure Makeup and they have little testers on the display. I bought mine at Walgreens. HtH!
I really like that one....well as far as liquid foundations go anyway. Really nice feel, nice finish, interesting foormula, cute marketing story, great color (Classic Ivory), and it's only 5$. If I weren't on these topicals I'd use it. It's a bit too drying for me right now....
Maybe I'll try it out in the summer when I'm not as prone to flakiness......

Are you sure that's not maybelline you're using? They have a product called "pure makeup" that's supposedly 50% water and there are testers out everywhere. I tried it and it made me flake like crazy. Tonight I was curious to see if I could make it work so I mixed it with moisturizer, and it's still making me flake. Only for very oily skin, though it doesn't feel cloggy at all so I could see how it would be a lifesaver for someone with extremely oily, extremely breakout prone skin.

Also, the ingredients do not contain the harmful and toxic preservatives, parabens, fillers, etc that can irritate the skin. Not all mineral foundation are created equal though. Check the ingredients to make sure they are high quality and do not contain Bismuth Oxychloride, which is known to cause itching, rashes and other skin problems.
