Level 3 is for people with extremely sensitive skin. Most people start with Level 6.

I have mildly sensitive skin, and Level 6 has been fine for me. And it has totally banished my bumps!

Q

Now, you have tried other retinoids and this Green cream works better for you? I have heard of it; it might be my next step. I am going to continue with differin until a year has passed..

I just started using my first application of Green Cream Level 6 yesterday night, and I still don't see any results yet..not even burning/stinging..nothing. Is this normal? If it is, when can I expect to see even the mildest symptom?

Retin A irritates my skin too much, and I got tired of going back to the derm to get the prescription renewed.

Retin A, Differin, etc. are stronger products, though, so if your skin can handle them, there's no real reason to switch to something milder.

Everyone responds differently. I don't think I can make any predictions.

Don't assume that nothing is going on, though. I wouldn't use it more than every other night the first week ... every 3rd night is safer.

Thank you for getting back to me. Ok, so I should only use it every 3rd day the first week, and switch it to every other day the second week, and then I should do it everyday the 3rd week if all goes fine? If by one month I still don't notice any peeling, stinging etc. should I stop using it? Cause my sister, who is only 1 year younger, already felt burning when she put it on her yesterday night. I also purchased this from dermstore and they do have a 1 month return policy if it doesn't work out for me. Therefore, I would like to know if the product is for me or not before a month. Thanks!

Burning and stinging is NOT a good indicator of whether or not a product is effective.

By the end of a month using Level 6, you should expect to see:

-- Improved skin tone; the beginnings of the retinol "glow"
-- Improved smoothness (this will also continue to improve with time)
-- Possibly some purging, depending on the condition of your skin when you start out. Green Cream, like other topical retinoids, takes 2-3 months to purge clogged pores.

Here is the schedule I generally recommend for easing into it:

First week: Once every 3 nights
Second week: Once every 2 nights
Third week: 2 out of 3 nights
Fourth week: Nightly

For more tips, see my pinned thread on OTC retinoids at the top of this forum.

Ok, I found this site yesterday regarding Green Cream that Paula from Paula's Choice does not recommend using.

It's on paulabegoun.com under "I pissed off the owner of green cream," you can probably google it. I can't add the whole link on here, it doesn't show.

Is it still a good idea to use it...any risks in the long run? I'm only 21 between, and I don't consider my skin to be bad....just some break outs here and there whenever I'm stressed or from food etc. I, however, want to get rid of my blackheads on my nose, and minimize those medium-sized pores on my cheeks.

Yeah, I saw those reviews. Note that they were not written by someone who has actually used the product. They were based solely on the fact that Green Cream contains ethanol.

That whole debate was covered exhaustively a few pages back in this very thread. Basically, if you have an ethanol sensitivity, this is probably not the best choice of product for you. If you don't, then the tiny amount of ethanol involved is not going to hurt your skin.

I've used this product for going on 4 years now ..... it's the best topical I've ever found for my skin.

But everyone has to decide for themselves what's best for their skin.

Can I exfoliate my face once a week while using green cream?

Oh, and I just finished exfoliating my face, can I use green cream tonight?

yes, and yes.

just be gentle! your skin is going to become more fragile than usual. retinoids decrease the "stickiness" that holds the cells together .... so handle with care.

My skin started to peel yesterday after my second application a day ago. When I put on makeup, you can see dry patches or peeling a little bit of the skin in clusters on various spots of my face. How long will it take for the dry patches to wear off or go away? Cause my makeup makes it look bad since there's no mosturizer except my light fondation. Thanks!

My experience is that peeling decreases over time ... it still comes & goes, though!

I use a silica bead scrub in the mornings if my face is at all flaky or peely. I get mine from Vivant -- www.betterhealthyskin.com -- but any silica bead-based scrub will do. Or you can use a soft facial brush or baby brush to help exfoliate the loose flakes. Whatever form of manual exfoliation you use, BE GENTLE!

After exfoliating, I moisturize. My favorite is a combination of hyaluronic acid serum and emu oil ... leaves my skin very soft and supple.

Makeup definitely accentuates any skin flakiness .... I don't know a way around that one. I don't wear foundation myself.

I use Avene gentle purifying scrub. It has red beads in it, but I'm not sure if it is a silica bead scrub. How gentle? Light pressure or no pressure at all? Thanks!

I am also experiencing flaking (which I realize is a good thing b/c my skin needs to shed a few bad layers, for sure) but I have some questions about how to handle it.

1. I have been applying gobs of moisturizer - is this decreasing the effect and clogging my pores? It is a good product made for acne-prone skin from perricone.

2. How often should I exfoliate? I've just been using a soft scrubby in the shower ....

3. How long before I can expect to see a decrease in the flaking? 2 weeks? One month?

Thanks!

So long as the beads are round, with no rough edges or seams, it's fine. You just don't want any abrasive edges at all.

Light pressure with fingertips is fine, I think. That's what I do, anyway.

If the flaking seems like it's getting out of hand, take a day or two off from Green Cream and let things settle down a bit.

If you are applying moisturizer after GC, make sure you are waiting at least 30-45 minutes between the two.

Aside from that, so long as you are using a good product that you like, moisturizing shouldn't be a problem.

How often you exfoliate really depends on how often you need it and what your skin can take. Basically, I would get up the morning, take a look in the mirror, and exfoliate gently if things look flaky.

Hard to predict how long it will last. Basically, my advice is the same as to the poster above; if it seems like it's getting out of hand, just take a day or two off from Green Cream and let things settle down a bit.

This is a long-term product. Effects are gradual and cumulative. Taking a day off here or there will not impede your progress, and it could make it a lot easier for you to work with GC.

yes, all Vitamin A products do because they work by purging the skin.
