From the book:

<Because acne hits virtually everyone, countless billions of dollars have been spent over the years developing, marketing, and promoting a plethora of products to deal with the problem. Why, then do so many people continue to feel that acne is an incurable condition?

Simple: although those products help in the treatment of acne up to a point, they don't solve the problem for most people most of the time.

Acne has 4 specific stages. For each stage there are products available that work pretty well. However, if you use only one such product, it will cure your acne only if, by coincidence, all your acne is in the stage that particular product aims to attack. In almost all cases, though, some parts of your overall acne are in stage 1 of the disease, some in stage 2, and so on. Naturally, then, however effective a product is in attacking one of those stages, it won't work to cure the rest of your acne. You would not be correct in concluding that the product doesn't work; but you would be wholly accurate in observing that it is not, in fact a cure.

There is another problem with the anti-acne products now on the market. this issue again carries with it a fair load of irony. for it is the very power of the skin- and especially of the stratum corneum- to ward off chemicals that makes it so difficult for acne creams and lotions to penetrateto where they are needed. Worse, when the skin is damaged- be it by a cut or abrasion or by the destructive effects of acne-your body promptly fights to repair itself. One of the ways it does that is to close up the damaged area by inflaming- and therefore swelling the surrounding skin. The closure makes it that much more difficult for the healing ointments to penetrate and do any good.

This lack of penetration renders most products less effective than they should be, leaving many with little or no effectiveness at all-and leaving you feeling that you've wasted your money.>

I hope you find this as interesting and insightful as I did when I first read this. This made so much sense to me and really made me look at my acne differently. This is just further proof to my of WHY Dr. Dubrow's method works . :(
