His thread is why I joined this forum. I had tried to leave a message with him to see if he would reply to my questions about his results and how the treatment has gone for him , but as of yet, no replies.

I don't blame you. It sounds like he's trying to take you for a ride if you ask me. Do you know of anyone else who has had success w/ this particular doctor and this treatment? I did 4 of these treatments at the beginning of the year and had very poor results, but it was w/ a different doctor and I doubt she had very much experience w/ scar revision.

I have suffered from acne off and on since I was in the 8th grade ... it took a reprieve during my college years, but returned when I hit my mid-20s. I have been left with extremely oily skin, acne scars, and riddled with blackheads and large pores. I've been down the road of accutane, etc.

Now in my early 30s, I just went for my 1st Smoothbeem treatment 4 days ago. When I got out of the treatment, I looked like I had been stung by a beehive all over my face ... but this faded within a couple of hours. I can honestly say that in only 4 days, I can see a moderate imporvement. My blackheads seem less, and my pores are a bit smaller. Also, my acne scarring is not as obvious ... seems to have taken a slight edge off. I am still very oily though. After reading this thread, I am going to find out what setting and size she is using on me.

One side effect is that I have been getting headaches .... seems to be from the laser being used aorund my eyes ... I have headaches since my 1st treatment.

I have another appointment on 12/15 ... only 16 days after my 1st treatment. Is this too soon???? I am concerned, and would like to know if this is too soon for a 2nd SB treatment.

I think that some of what you might be seeing is swelling from the laser. The same thing happened to me adn I thought my scars were improving too. After a week, things started looking back to before. You need to wait at least a month to see the improvement, because it takes a while for collagen to grow. I hope yours works out. Unfortunately, mine didn't.

Thanks for the quick feedback, Lexy. I'm going to reschedule it for another week off than originally planned. I am surprised they scheduled me to come in only 2 weeks after my first?

I do agree that my scars aren't that much changed in 4 days .... but, my blackheads have lessened and overall appearance of my skin is a bit more balanced .... almost like it gave me a nice "fix-me-up".

Lexy ... why are you unhappy with your SB experience? Did you get any good results?

no good results unfortunately. The first two treatments were o.k., but after my third and fourth treatments, I broke out terribly, the worst ever in my life. I had to go on accutane. I got several new scars as a result and my skin got saggier, making existing scars look worse. I don't think my horrible response to the smoothbeam is common. It just wasn't for me.
it wasn't cheap either, $1200 for the four treatments.

I had 4 Smoothbeam treatments over a year ago. While I really liked the treatment, I would recommend NOT to pay 800.00 per session, it is simply not worth it. A series of several may help considerably and I am considering getting more. There is a place where I live which charges just 200 per session and 100 per session if the treatment is for acne. I found out after inquiring if the price had gone down recently. I currently don't have any acne. I mainly get breakouts in the summer so I may have to wait till the summer months to be considered for the lesser rate. Strange, I felt it tightened my skin alot but now around 1.5 years later, it does seem to be saggier. I'm not sure if its age or the results simply aren't permanent or it poissibly weakened the collagen on the long term and I have to go in for maintenance sessions. Hmmm..... could just be gravity. But my take on the smoothbeam.... Not worth 800.00 per session. Honestly, 200.00 would be much more like it. Don't seem to eager since the rates may be negotiable in many cases. I am currently getting a series of power peels but not sure if I'll go for more since the tca peels were doing just as much or more for my skin and it was much less expensive.

Hi, everyone. I'm new to this forum. I'm located in San Diego, CA and was wondering if anyone knows of any doctor in the area or close by that performs Smoothbeam treatments for a reasonable price. I got a 2 quotes, one place in Del Mar does it for $550 while the other in Laguna Niguel for $350. Both are quite expensive for me, but I was wondering if that the prices they are going for in Cali. But if anyone knows of a better place with a better price please let me know, thanks.

YES. finally, a person who has had Smoothbeam over a year ago!! Okay, so, what kind of scarring did you have? Did smoothbeam help that scarring? how about the overall appearence and texture of your skin? did smoothbeam help that?

And now, over a year later, would you say that the improvement in your scars was perminents? I have no doubt that SB would tighten skin, atleast temporarily, similar to how your skin is after a peel. And obviously you say the tightening is not permenent. BUT, was any improvement on your scars perminent? how about on your active acne?

Last, are you saying SB actually made your skin worse? like, are you saying your skin is sagging BADLY? How does your overall skin compare NOW to how it was when you first started your SB treatments? thanks a lot. These kinds of feedback and advice really help us out, those of us who are considering this procedure. thanks again.

peace.

hey johndo,

What's the name of the place in Laguna Niguel? Seems like 350 would be on the lower end of the price range considering that southern california will be overly expensive for anything so I think I may check that place out. Sorry I can't help you with your question at the moment, but I live in LN and I know of one laser place near where I live on crown valley near the pch in Dan Point. I was going to stop by and ask some questions and see if they have smoothbeam and the price so I will report back to you after I go there or if I find any other place for less than 350.

Somewhat off topic, but for anyone who uses the search button for southern california or L.D.I (laser dermitology institute of california):
I went to their free consultation in Irvine and was a little dissapointed. The guy I talked to was a little jaded about talking with people about LDI because the cost is so high (too high for a free consultation, hence the reason why he was so jaded). 1K per treatment and he recomended 6 treatments (mine is fairly minor, one spot on my cheek). He bartered with me like we were on the gaza strip with "I can knock off 1k if you sign up now" or "I can throw in 500 off for cash financing" ect. Their treatment might be good or bad and might be worth that money. Also their slick web site made it look like they have a huge multi-level medical complex with all the best electronics but the place in Irvine was a smallish no widow getup, like a cheap dental office.

Thanks, SH

Nevermind, through google I think I found it or at least something better..... Its in laguna niguel and quotes 800 for 4 minor treatments and 1200 for 4 majors eusa_boohoo.gif

For anyone looking for Smoothbeam treatment in the New York City area: Dr. Virgil Hatcher performs this in the Chelsea area and he quoted me $460 for 2 treatments, but that price could change soon. Anyone wanting more info, leave me a note in my mail box.

The place in Laguna Niguel ran by Dr. Kramer, http://www.wonderfulskin.com/smoothbeam.htm, is called Aesthetic Dermatology & Laser Center. I emailed him and he quoted me at $350; I also asked if there were a package or cash deal but he didnt say. It seems kind of expensive for a procedure that only takes like half and hour to do or so. But I'm very new, so any advice would be very appreciated. Thanks eusa_angel.gif

Well, it is day 9 since my first smoothbeam treatment and my skin is looking even better. I have large pores, ton of blackheads and some pimples, extremely oily skin and acne scarring on top of that. We decided to treat the acne at the surface with Tretinoin .1% cream while smoothbeam works underneath. After 9 days, I can see my pores have reduced and less blackheads ... also my scarring is much more suttle .... but I am still stuck with the oily skin. I think the combination of treating the surface and below the skin has really made a fast and great difference. I only apply the Tretinoin cream once a week because it does dry me out quite a bit. I have my 2nd smoothbeam scheduled for December 20th .... 3 weeks after my 1st treatment.

I have been reading how people are complaining of sagging skin later after the treatments. Is this drastic sagging? Do you really believe it is related to the SB treatments?

I'm wondering will using the Tretinoin cream make me more susceptible to possible side efffects on my 2nd SB treatment?

see, that sounds like a good price, BUT, i'm worried the results are only temporary. I'm trying to find as many people as i can who have gotten it done atleast a year ago and find out how the long term effects are. Someone above posted that they think it actually made thier skin worse over the long term, but who knows, right?

No, I haven't gotten it done...thats the whole reason I joined this board since October. I really am looking into it. It's almost as if my derm, my new derm, he didn't even hesitate at all when he saw my face and said-- "Smoothbeam!" I don't want to think or live in bliss, but I can't help the fact that I want to read positive reviews on SB. I am only 22 with mild scarring, but I have to wait out a year to have it done because I am on tane right now, plus my doc wants to do microderms 6 months after tane. I really have no idea why some people are experiencing sagging, and unfortunately, there are probably a lot of people out there with good results from SB and have had it done a long while ago, but don't post or aren't members or simply never heard of acne.org. doubt.gif
