MOM is very alkaline. The surface of your skin should be acidic. this retards the growth of microbes like bacteria. So if you use it, also apply something acidic to compensate. Or try magnesium citrate which I am guessing is more acidic. It's a clear liquid that I have only seen in dollar stores, but it must be available in pharmacies and drug stores.

Today is June 3rd 2011 and I am using Milk of Malaysia on my face for acne and cystic acne. So far it is working wonders by drying up all the oils.

Hi. I'm new here and I've been wondering how to deal with my oily skin for quite a while. I plan on buying some oh Phillip's MoM later this week. I don't wear foundation or any other type makeup on my skin due to the fact that I find it too time consuming and whatnot. I plan on using this as a mask at night and leaving it on for maybe an hour before washing it off and going to bed. I'll edit my this post with my results as soon as I test this out! Thanks everyone for your posts eusa_dance.gif I hope this helps me!

Additional info:

I'm in my early teens

I'm pretty sure soy breaks me out.

I'm pretty sure my acne is partially hereditary though there is some speculation as to whether acne even is hereditary or not.

EDIT:

I just bought some and lightly applied it on my face with a tissue. Long story short,
I'M IN LOVE WITH THIS PRODUCT AND I WANT TO MARRY IT. That might be creepy though, so I'll just worship it in a very obscure way or something. It's generally too early to be certain of this product's awesomeness, but if you apply only a very thin amount, the MoM will NOT leave a film on your face! Which means you can wear it out! I'm not planning on putting foundation over it. I also haven't washed it off yet. But, just by a small amount on, the texture of my skin seems to have changed completely! I love it! My skin looks so smooth and soft. Not ragged and grainy like it was previously. I've only had it on for about a half an hour, but there's still no oil showing through and that's good enough for me! This product might just be my new second best friend (my first best friend is human). GO TRY IT! I got some Western Family brand from the local store. It's "original" flavor. It was $3.79 for 12 oz.

Who knows? Maybe I'll go out without wearing ANY makeup sometime soon wink.gif? smile.gif idea.gif razz.gif wink.gif biggrin.gif eusa_angel.gif shock.gif eusa_clap.gif eusa_dance.gif

P.S. I remove it by using a cotton ball, tissue, toilet paper, whatever soaked with Witch Hazel. Works well whistling.gif)

I have extremely oily skin, the type where I have to blot every 1 hour if not I'll look like a frying pan. I also have dehydrated skin, which means when I try oil controlling products, they end up drying up my skin and more oil comes out which makes my skin even worse.

Does this dry out the skin?

I tried out MoM for about a week and I felt like it only delayed the oil, not reduce it. My skin is extremely oily (I can completely use up a full blotting paper every hour or two).
MoM kept the oil at bay for 4-5 hours, which is pretty impressive for me. Unfortunately, after that my skin was oilier than ever. After I stopped using it, I had a few extremely oily days before my skin went back to normal.

Do you think flavor would make the milk of magnesia mask ineffective? i couldn't find original so im am using a cherry milk of magnesia mask, think it matters?

Magnesium Citrate is great. I have been using it the last couple of weeks. My scars are going away fast. It was too drying, so I just do a rinse every morning then moisturize. I can show a before and after photo: kind of dramatic difference!

Before: ...

After 1 month: ...

...as you can see, I have a long way to go, but this is as good as it's looked in years.

WOW, you look great! Please keep up the pic's as you progress. I am just beginning to use MOM, I am hoping it will help with my Rosacea. eusa_think.gif

This stuff looks great and I'm tempted to try, however my face doesn't usually get that greasy - so I'm wondering if it would be too drying on my skin? Maybe I should give it a go anyway and see how it goes. :)

I tried it for a couple weeks. It did help just a bit with oily shine... but my skin is so super oily... it didn't help enough for me to continue using it. I still had to blot around my nose after an hour or so after applying makeup. I never slept with it on...

Ahh yes. I remember trying MoM. Uhh. It worked a bit for a few weeks, but it really didn't do anything for me after that. I'd recommend sticking with supplements. Alpha Lapoic Acid is helpful, Vitamin E, A, D, and all the B's are good too. I'd do some research on them first though. Also drinking lemon juice "use a straw to avoid getting it on your teeth. That's bad. It wears down your enamel) can help lessen redness.

Can I use MoM during the day prior to makeup application when I'm on Retin A? My skin whilst using Retin A is thinner, red and pretty sensitive!
