Hello,
Acne and skin problems really confuse me. I am a social worker and work with people who have all sorts of medical problems and who are on a lot of medications. The thing is many think, as I did at one point, that one cause of acne could be congested organs such as the liver. However, I have several clients with Hepatitis C, and they all have perfect skin! I don't get that. Also, if synthetic medications are toxic, then all of my clients would have horrible skin. I don't know, I think I am through with trying to fight the cause of acne. I still eat healthy, exercise and take care of myself, but I think no one has really ever found the real reason it happens.

We won't for a long time. As long as drugs rule the earth, there will be very few "cures." For a long time, I used to think that something inside my body was bad, and that's why i have acne. But after months of tests and trials, I seemed to be wrong. Doctors say I'm very healthy. So what's left? Well, i've been pondering over the fact that people with acne may have abnormal skin shedding. Maybe our skin sheds slower than most people, and it gets trapped in our pores. Acne prone people often have big pores right? I do, and I believe that dead skin collects in pores, and doesn't shed fast enough. That's where I stand.

This is what I believe
The root cause of acne is the digestion of bad food that includes refined carbs. Eating these your body will produce insulin (hormones) creating a hormonal imbalance in your body. The hormonal imbalance will trigger your sebaceous glands to produce excessive oil, oil secretes out of your skin attracting bacteria and then inflames the skin.
Why do some people eat junk and never get acne?
Its due to genetics. Some people's sebaceous glands are less sensitive to hormonal imbalances and/or their bodies can metabolise sugar much easily.
Why do children don't get acne until they reach their teens?
Haven't figured that one out yet.

I HATE NUTS! Especially those nuts that are sold in buses by bystander vendors in the highways... they make my skin super oily and looks bad...

Some people are genetically inclined to develop acne. Some will develop it worse than others, this depends on how unlucky you are with your genes. There are other factors that can further aggrivate your acne, but ultimately it comes down to your genes. Poor liver function could certainly contribute to breakouts in those genetically susceptable to acne, but would have no efect on those that do not have a history of acne in their family.

i find it all so frustrating. Nothing seems to figure one way or the next with my cycle. i go for months with perfectly clear skin with one pimple here or there..to a sudden break out where every couple of days i get a new one (currently in said cycle.) luckily usually by the time the new one is saying hullo the old one or two or more are on their way out. I heal FAST. no problems with red marks...mine are gone in a week to nothing or a tiny freckle. Its very strange. My hair and fingernails grow uber fast too. My metabolism is crazy. i can't gain weight. I've been tested over and over and everything is fine metabolically..but i have no idea what gets me into the cycle of breaking out. its almost like theres no rhyme or reason.

I have come to notice something that is becoming more & more common I get see day in day out with acne patients that have had acne for over 20+ years. There the healthiest. It seems the guys that are "Living It" through alcohol & drug abuse cure there acne, rapidly. Maybe the cancer/acne link which was laughed off years ago could actually be true.

Fast hair and fingernail growth sound familiar. As does the inability to gain weight. I've had the same symptoms, if you could call them that. About 2 weeks ago I altered my diet on the basis that I may have high insulin levels (i.e. heading towards type 2 diabetes as I've always been a sugar-dairy-carbs-aholic). And surprise, surprise, my facial hair growth rate has dropped significantly, as has fingernail growth rate (as nails are just another form of hair). Oilyness has gone right down, and acne has also dropped to almost nil new outbreaks. If I read all that right, it sounds like my IGF-1 level was indeed high and that's known to influence hair growth. And as insulin has a direct influence on IGF-1 it appears that was also high, and that causes oilyness. So the science all seems to add up sofar. The diet I'm following is fairly drastic in that it only allows fruit, meat and vegetables. No dairy or grains. But it's proven the point for me. I'm going to experiment some more over the next 2 weeks to see if I can get a better food balance in the diet without upsetting the insulin and IGF-1 again.
