This product broke me out. All primers break me out for some reason! I never use them anymore. You don't really need them unless you're going out in hot (ie. sweaty) weather. If you find a good foundation you can usually skip the primer.

a lady at mac told me that the prep and prime can be used as a shield to prevent makeup from going into your pores and making you suspetible to clogged pores equalling acne is this true?
So I went into MAC a few weeks ago to get matched with some studio fix. I told the lady I was on Accutane and she recommended the prep + prime. She said the exact same thing: that it acts as a shield between your skin and your makeup, that there is silicone in it so that nothing gets penetrated through it. She also went over the ingredients with me to reassure me there were no parabens or sulfates.
It has mostly natural stuff in it (shock! I know) but I haven't been brave enough to put it on my face for fear of ruining my beautiful results from Accutane. The lady said it's also a great moisturizer for anyone who suffers from psoriasis/eczema and I've used it on my hands because ever since being on Accutane they're so scaly, but I have to say although it went on nicely and smelled pretty, I found I had to keep reapplying more than once in order for the scales on my hands to go away properly.
I will be returning this product, I just am a little unsettled about it being able to block my makeup, yet, how will I get that primer off my face? When I wear studio fix I make sure that it's worth it (ie, not wearing it on a daily basis) and I wash my face for a solid 20 minutes when I'm taking it off. I agree, studio fix makes you break out, but for me I've found that only happens if you don't remove it entirely and properly.
Glad this product was posted here, was curious what everyone else thought of it!

Mindwitch, the lady is referring to the dimethicone in the product which they "try" to say is helping your skin by putting a seal over it so it does not let the product clog your pores???! What a bunch of crap. I work in as a holistic esthetician and dimethicone actually is used as a humectant to draw moisture to the skin, however it works more like saran wrap over your face not allowing it to breathe and hence clogging pores. MACs products are not good quality, they do have heavy coverage (which is why drag queens favor it, it hides everything), however the long term damage the chemicals and fillers can do to acne prone skin is really not worth it. There are plenty of natural makeup companies out there that make high coverage products without the skin damaging ingredients. Here is the ingredient listing from the mac prep and prime...........
.Zinc Oxide 16.10%, Octinoxate 7.50% Water, cyclopentasiloxane, butylene glycol, peg-7 dimethicone, cyclohexasiloxane, dimethecone, phenyl trimethicone, vinyl dimethicone/methcone, silsequioxane crosspolymer, methyl gluceth-10, glycerin, dimethicone/ vinyl dimethicone crosspolymer, caffeine, tocepherol, sucrose, stearyl glycrrhetinate, cellulose acteate, glycyrrhetinate, cellulose acetate, methicone, PEG/PPG-19/19 Dimethicone, magnesium sulfate, silicia dimethyl silylate, silica, sorbic acid, phenoxyethanol, chlorphenesin.
Basically, a bunch of silicones, chemical emollients, emulsifiers, silica (which some people break out from) and preservatives (phenoxyethanol)
Those with acne prone skin are dealing with internal issues (not simply hormonal) but toxicity issues. The skin is referred to as the 3rd kidney, whatever toxins are not processed out your kidneys will find another route of elimination (your skin).
Acne can get much better if you are making sure you are "going" at least once or twice a day, limit refined sugars and processed foods and eat a lot of probiotic foods such as kefir, yogurt, raw sauerkraut etc.
I would steer clear of any MAC products.

interesting i actually find that im able to remove makeup a lot more easily with the prep and prime. it prevents a lot of the makeup from entering my pores which tends to aggravate my skin because i have to wash my face extra harder to get the makeup off usually.i use studio fix liquid and have never broken out from it but i try my best to only have it on for a couple hours at the most.
