Has anyone here tried it? I was thinking of getting it but I was just wondering does anyone here know whether its oil free or not? and whether it does anything for minimising the look of pores?

Thanks in advance.

You know, I'm using this stuff . . . and I'm breaking out (it's been about two weeks) but I'm not sure if it's because of the Prep+Prime or something else . . . (since I've been using a lot of different stuff for my skin, I don't think this is the cause of it)

I will let you know what happens - I am getting a new cleanser, toner, and moisturizer today so if my acne is still happening after I switch, I may start to think it's the Prep&Prime. Which would really suck, because I love the way this stuff goes on and works underneath my makeup!

Let me know what happens w/ you!

I will! I think the culprit is something else (my cleanser or moisturizer perhaps) bc supposedly this is an oil-free product . . . that being said, I can't wear MAC's foundations such as the studioFix (even though they are supposedly oil-free) because they caused me to break out. Good luck!!

The studio fix broke you out??? shock.gif

I actually really loved that- how strange?! eusa_think.gif I guess it depends on how your skin reacts to it?!

I loved the coverage and everything of the studio fix powder foundation but it broke me out BAD (I could tell w/in a day or two). Now I am sticking to Laura Mercier Oil-free foundation.

I am sure that because your skin didn't break out w/ that, it probably will be fine w/ the Prep+Prime.

And I know I'm not the only one who had problems w/ the studio fix - if you go to makeupalley.com (and even on here) there are a lot of people who had the same problem - even if they weren't acne-prone! Go figure.

But you're right, everyones skin is different, so you never really know unless you try . . .

Totally true. My friend trouble uses the laura mercer. smile.gif

If you have any trouble with foundations I'd give veggiegirls minerals a try.

Thanks for the advice though eusa_angel.gif

I tried, but unfortunately, she's in so much demand that she can't even send samples! I think she's supposed to email me when she gets her online shop set up - I'll definitely give her mm a try then smile.gif I hear it's great stuff though.

Laura M is great, albeit expensive.

I WOULD NOT USE ANYTHING FROM 'MAC.' I WAS USING MAC STUDIO FIX FOR THE PAST YEAR OR SO AND IT'S THE REASON MY SKIN IS SO BADLY BROKEN OUT NOW. I WAS SEEING A DERMATOLOGIST AND WE WERE DOING SMOOTHBEAM LASER TREATMENTS AND I WAS HAVING A FACIAL EVERY MONTH AND NOTHING WAS CLEARING ME UP. UNTIL LAST WEEK WHEN MY FACIALIST WAS LIKE, IT'S YOUR MAKEUP. MAC IS TOO PROFESSIONAL STRENGTH AND IT'S CLOGGING YOUR PORES. SALES PEOPLE AT SEPHORA SAID THE SAME THING. THEY SAID THE HAD A NUMBER OF PEOPLE COMPLAIN THAT MAC MADE BUMPS ON THEIR FACE. THE THING IS, WHEN YOU USE IT IT LOOKS REALLY GOOD SO YOU DON'T REALIZE THAT IT'S ACTUALLY CLOGGING YOUR SKIN, BUT IT IS! SO JUST FYI, I WOULDN'T USE IT IF I WERE YOU. IT RUINED THIS PAST YEAR FOR ME. I'M JUST NOW TRYING TO RECOVER AND CLEAR UP. IF YOU HAVE TO USE ANYTHING, SEPHORA SALES PEOPLE SAY TO USE LORAC BC IT'S OIL-FREE.

Firstly: Thank you for your response smile.gif
Secondly: Why the capitals? I dont like being shouted at eusa_angel.gif
Thirdly: I can understand why you dont like MAC, since you havent had a really good experience from it, however, I found in my case, that it worked really well with my skin type. Infact, my acne lessened when using their products (I doubt it was the studio fix that lessened my acne, but the MAC products I was using definately didnt contribute towards it.
Fourthly: why have you written practically the same thing in everythread? eusa_think.gif

Anyway: since I'm in this thread, I'll let you all know what I think of the prep +prime skin cool.gif

I think its great, infact, I'm really glad I bought it! I havent had ANY break outs from it- so that's a bonus. Also, I've found that I havent had to touch up my foundation. I love it! wub.gif However, if I do have to moan about something, it would be the shimmer that's in it. Its not obnoxious or anything, but I normally hate shimmer, but once you put ur foundatoin on top, you cant see it, so its all ok cool.gif

I'm sorry about the caps confused.gif
I guess I was really overzealous about getting the word out that MAC might be the culprit of further breakouts. And I just didn't want someone to buy studio fix and have it ruin their skin, like what happened to me. You're right, it might work for some people and it definitely does look good when you have it on. But it just killed my skin.

summerbay- I was wondering does the primer work for dry patches too? If you get them razz.gif Im really interested in buying it. I really need a primer since my skin is SO uneven, has dry patches, and makeup halfway melts off by the end of the day. Thanks in advance! biggrin.gif

izel- Hey I really think you had an unlucky match with studiofix. I know alot of people that have. I think an ingredient in it is really pore clogging. Then again, It all depends on the person. I know you've had a hard time with it, but for others, MAC has worked really good. Also, have you tried MAC foundations other than the studiofix? If not I'd suggest not to bash ALL of MACs foundations. Thanks. smile.gif

hi pookie.

I reckon it worked quite well on my dry patches, but I'd advise u to exfoliate first, before u put the primer on. The only thing that might annoy u is the amount of shimmer in it. It looks kinda weird with shimmer on ur nose, forehead etc lol!

althought the shimmer bugs me, its the only primer that I've found that hasnt caused my makeup to melt off my face. and it really does make the studio fix go on soooooooooo smoothky.

hope that helps eusa_angel.gif

okey dokey- After using the prep and prime for a bit... I thought I'd let you all know my opinions have changed.

I took it back to mac to get a refund- the main reason being that the shimmery stuff was REALLY annoying me... every time the sun was in my face... my face would look like someone poured glitter all over my face doubt.gif not really a look I want to go for lol!

Secondly.. I started to get some break outs on my nose- nothing about my makeup changed apart from the addition of this primer to this makeup routine- I really do think that it was the shimmery things that were the culprit though, since they were a nightmare to get off, even after cleansing with wipes and 2 different facial washes eusa_wall.gif

Although, I really did love the way the primer made my studio fix sit perfectly on my face ALL DAY, I really didnt think it was worth keeping... as a friend on the boards recently said to me "you dont need all that crap on your face". This is totally true.

Anyway... I just thought I should update you and warn you if you wanted to get it. This is by far the worse MAC product I've had to deal with (and trust this... I normally swear by MAC).

Hey summerbay,

I went off of the Mac Prep+Prime, but ended up going back to it because it wasn't the cause of my acne (I have hormonal acne and I think that the moisturizer I was using was clogging my pores). But I've started spironolactone, and my acne has started to clear up wonderfully, along w/ the aid of Mario B products . . . but it would be interesting to see if I wasn't using anything to treat my acne if I'd be breaking out from the Prime . . . most likely I would.

I really do like how this goes on (not heavy, and sinks right in) and keeps my on foundation for all day wear.

You're right about the shimmer, but I don't notice it under my makeup . . . even by the time I've applied it and blended it in I hardly notice it.

Anyway, good luck on your search for a good primer! I really did like philosophy's "protection creme" although I don't think it's quite as good as this one.

smile.gif biggrin.gif

Have a good day, Michelle

a lady at mac told me that the prep and prime can be used as a shield to prevent makeup from going into your pores and making you suspetible to clogged pores equalling acne is this true?

Mindwitch, the lady is referring to the dimethicone in the product which they "try" to say is helping your skin by putting a seal over it so it does not let the product clog your pores???! What a bunch of crap. I work in as a holistic esthetician and dimethicone actually is used as a humectant to draw moisture to the skin, however it works more like saran wrap over your face not allowing it to breathe and hence clogging pores. MACs products are not good quality, they do have heavy coverage (which is why drag queens favor it, it hides everything), however the long term damage the chemicals and fillers can do to acne prone skin is really not worth it. There are plenty of natural makeup companies out there that make high coverage products without the skin damaging ingredients. Here is the ingredient listing from the mac prep and prime...........

.Zinc Oxide 16.10%, Octinoxate 7.50% Water, cyclopentasiloxane, butylene glycol, peg-7 dimethicone, cyclohexasiloxane, dimethecone, phenyl trimethicone, vinyl dimethicone/methcone, silsequioxane crosspolymer, methyl gluceth-10, glycerin, dimethicone/ vinyl dimethicone crosspolymer, caffeine, tocepherol, sucrose, stearyl glycrrhetinate, cellulose acteate, glycyrrhetinate, cellulose acetate, methicone, PEG/PPG-19/19 Dimethicone, magnesium sulfate, silicia dimethyl silylate, silica, sorbic acid, phenoxyethanol, chlorphenesin.

Basically, a bunch of silicones, chemical emollients, emulsifiers, silica (which some people break out from) and preservatives (phenoxyethanol)

Those with acne prone skin are dealing with internal issues (not simply hormonal) but toxicity issues. The skin is referred to as the 3rd kidney, whatever toxins are not processed out your kidneys will find another route of elimination (your skin).

Acne can get much better if you are making sure you are "going" at least once or twice a day, limit refined sugars and processed foods and eat a lot of probiotic foods such as kefir, yogurt, raw sauerkraut etc.

I would steer clear of any MAC products.
