I really need to know how to tell the difference between "red marks" (hyperpigmentation) and scars. What's the defining difference (s)?

Scars are generally the ones that leave indents or pits in your skin. A light and shadow test usually uncovers these pretty well. Red marks are far less severe and are pretty much self explanatory.

a light and shadow test simply means lookng in the mirror and seeing whether the mark you see is actually a shadow by changing angles...and if it is, then it is a scar..if it looks the same at all angles, then it is a redmark.
I dont know what a light and shadow test actually is, but i think thats the intended meaning.
