i have read the post on inflammatory pigmentation but i am still not sure if my marks are scars or inflammatory pigmentation. Can someone send me or post pictures showing the difference between inflammatory pigmentation and scars. and/or give me a briefing on the difference. my marks are dark reddish/purple and smooth and flat. i got them from squeezing old pimples. iv had them for about 8 months and they dont really seem to be fading to much and i do use creams.

I believe scars are actual indentations in the skin.
The inflammatory pigmentation is usually red or brown and the spot is actually smooth.

exactly, but hyperpigmentation can also be slightly raised. acne scars can look like redmarks (hyperpigmentation) in certain lights.

I'm not sure of the difference but would like to find out more info.
I've had marks on my skin for about 5 YEARS now.
From coming to this site it seems scars are either raised places on the skin, or indented places on the skin.
But upon having these smooth spots of discoloration on my face for 5 years, i am pretty convinced these are scars. And if they are or are not, I need to know what to use on my face. As actual scars are treated differently than just "red marks left after acne"
If you find anything out let me know.
