.. but since minocycline makes your immune system weaker, it's probably not that good of an idea. However, it may make your recovery longer once you get off antibiotics.

Since minocycline makes your immune system weaker, is there anything you can do to keep your immune system strong?

Ok so I've been taking this Tetracyclene for 4 days now (250mg 2x/day) and it seems like my face is getting worse. Is it common to have an initial breakout with this stuff? I think I'm worse than I've ever been...4 cysts..and more in the making

I'm far from being an expert on this stuff. However, I do remember my derm telling me it would get worse before it gets better. I saw something to this effect on the FAQ that opens this thread.

Are you using any topicals? When I was on doxy last year my doctor prescribed Retin-A and Duac. I had an IB from the retin-A . . . . lots of tiny dots on my forehead. I'd never had anything on my forehead before! Eventually, my skin got better. I stopped the doxy. Now its all coming back.

I was just prescribed spiro. I decided to start it today. I'm also starting the doxy again, since I still have some left from last time and it isn't expired.

Stick with the doxy for at least 6 weeks before you give up. That should give your skin enough time to push out all the yucky stuff that was lurking underneath.

Hi

I'm about to go on mino 100 ug. Should i be worried about my acne getting worse?

Also what do you guys do after u're done the prescription to maintain the results if they are good?

Also, i am using Benzac W wash 10%. My doctor didn't say anything about the face wash, should i continue it along with the antibiotic?

i've been on tetracyklin for about 1½ months now, 1g a day and the first 2weeks was hell also... it's an initial breakout but it got better after 3weeks and now its really really good! i don't even use makeup! im taking vitamin b5 at the same time, i figure that will keep it under control after i stop taking the tetra... i hope...

just hang in there and it will most likely clear up in a week or two!

doesn't calcium carbonate (at least the ones found in rolaids [an antiacid]) effect how well tetracycins work?

BP wasH? yeah, go ahead, just remember your skin will be extra sensitive to sunlight...use sunscreen or you'll burn very easily!

Hey everyone, I have been on 100 mg minocycline for about 2.5 months now. It had been working fairly well up to now. All of a sudden I got a bunch of little bumps on my forehead and my cheeks got really red, even though there werent many pimples on them. I've heard that it has to get worse before it gets better, but it was already better...so Im starting to worry its losing its effectiveness. It's been bad for about a week now, what do you guys think I should do?

ive read from a number of sources that bacteria cannot become immune to minocyclin and thats why it is the superior tertrecyclin to use. after hereing all the people on here claim to become resistant i asked my derm, he said that acne cannot become immune to mino, most likely scenario is that peoples acne just got worse naturally and mino wasnt a strong enough drug to do fight the bacteria anymore.
whats your opinion on this

ive been using minomycin for 3 months...although there was this one time when my prescription was finished...i didnt take minomycin for about a month....as a result my acne returned much worster than b4....i guess if you stop taking this antibiotics...it will eventually return...in other words, it will help youre skin clear up (temporarily)...although it will resist to come back...effinf bastards!!

im uncertain if this was asked, and i checked in the section about conflicts in medications, but is salicyclic acid facial washes ok to use during tetracycline use? its not ingested, but i wish to get rid of the redness on my face.
ive been using this antibiotic for two weeks now and i find its really helping! but i just need something to get rid of the redness, and since i have Reversion (antimicrobial wash with salicyclic acid medication), i was just hoping it's ok to take with it.

thanks a bunch in advance

Hi, has anyone taken a course of these antibiotics and been cleared of acne, and it has not come back apart from the odd spot hear and there?

Thinking of going on this, but bit worried about the side affects, and dont want the acne to come back stronger than ever once the body becomes immune to it.

me again, ive been on tetracycline for about 3 months now for an update and im loving it! its the only thing ive tried (aside from accutane, which i refuse to) thats worked. im on 500mg BID (twice a day), and my acne is remarkably gone. it took the first two months to see improvement, but now its gone tongue.gif, all im left with is red marks. i used to have terrible acne, and im left with scaring but ah well, i feel much better now and had no side effects from the pills (not even stomach upset).

i was also given, for my arms and spots on my face Dalacin-T 1% BID (morn/night), its a topical antibiotic which has sped up the process greatly and prevents breakouts tongue.gif
(its also a 3 month treatment)
i asked the doc what happens if it comes back after i stop takign them, and he just gave me more pills, saying i can lower my dose by half, then stop. if it comes back, then still have the pills to go back onto tongue.gif no problem.

i definitely recommend tetracycline, but like all meds it might not be right for everyone, but it sure did give me what i was hoping for. not a perfect face (red spots but theyre going away tongue.gif), but definitely non-bumpy/acne free biggrin.gif

I ran out of my 50mg doxy a few days a go. Since I couldn't refill the prescription, I took the 100mg doxy instead. When i first started doxy she gave me 100mg doxy samples to use to save me some money. I was told to take one every two days, i guess to make it 50mg a day. I took it twice this time, 2 in 4 days. I was wondering was it bad that i took the 100mg instead of just waiting until I could refill my prescription?

well tetracycline alone cleared me for one month but after one month the acne returned again. Quite possibly due to bacterial resistance, the bacterias are not resistant to tetracycline.

I used azelaic acid ever since and benzoyl peroxide.

Hi, I'm 14 and I've had really bad stubborn acne ever since I was about 11. It keeps getting worse and worse and nothing I do can stop it.
I've tried heaps of pimple products (that don't work), I squeeze my pimples every day for about an hour, I use ant-bacterial soap everyday, I spend all my time on the computer looking up treatments for acne, I cover my pimples everday with make-up that's supposed to work but nothing does!
I hate it, everybody seems to think I'm stupid and I don't know I have pimples. It's constant "Hey, you need to use some pimple remover" and "I really recommend..." and people are always staring at them.
And someone I consider a friend embarassed me greatly the other day by saying loudly "Natalie's entering puberty because she has pimples." Just because I'm the only one in my group with them. Most people don't enter puberty when they're 11. redface.gif
My mum says she can hardly notice them, and my brother says I spend too much time on them and my dad said everyone has a "few gumpies". Try having a mountain range for a face.
I just don't understand how people can have clear skin. My greatest wish in the whole world is to be able to run my hand over my face and not feel pimples or blackheads or anything.
Please, if you have tried any acne product that removes it at least a little PLEASE say so.
You know what I hate? When pimple products say "It HELPS fight acne." It's because they know it won't work so they just say it HELPS fight it.
I always feel really left out wherever I go, pimples are ruining my life and I bet they're ruining yours too.
Totally fucking depressed,
Natalie. :[

arent you always supposed to take doxycycline with a meal? and another reason for not laying down after an antibiotic is it can cause heart burn or acid reflux.

OK so, I have a question.
I went to the doctor today and was prescribed Tetracycline, 500 mg twice a day. I was wondering, is it okay to take probiotics while on this? Other supplements i'm currently taking include MSM, b-complex, taurine, zinc citrate and an essential fatty acids supplement.

Also.. will the fact that I'm taking a high dosage make the initial breakout worse? or is it irrelevant/random mostly.

(By the way, my acne is moderate--mostly cysts and nodules, and at least partially hormonal I suspect. I have never taken any prescriptions for acne, topical or otherwise. So I really, really hope this works... and that it will help with my horribly, monthly hormonal cystic breakout on my chin.)
