Hi,

what are the issues with BP gel and sitting out in the sun? I know a lot of my previous acne products say to stay out of the sun. Does BP gel cause skin to burn? if so, does this occur even with SPF moisturizer on? I'm just curious because a few posts have talked about people going on vacation and asked if they should stop the regimen while away...what is the reason for this?

thanks

bp can make you more sensitive to the sun. An spf 30+ will do good for most people. You should be wearing sun screen anyway, so they say. But when you are on an acne medication: bp, topical retinoids, accutane, antibiotics (topical and oral), all make you more likely to burn.

so is it better to use BP only at night if you know you are going to be out in the sun...or is it ok as long as using a sunscreen?

In my reading about benzoyl peroxide in medical literature, I have found no evidence of extra photo-sensitivity that goes along with it. However, some products will put this warning on their tube or on their web site. I'm not sure why. However, it is always a good idea to have spf on your skin, especially your acne prone facial skin. That's why all of the moisturizers I recommend are spf15.

IMO, I say definitely continue to wear BP at night. And if you HAVE to wear it during the day, in other words being in the sun, then I suggest you apply the BP directly to the spots that really need to be medicated. And of course where an spf of at least 15.
