I tried steaming when my acne was at my worst. Small pimples emerged, but they were small potatoes compared to the big cystic acne on my chin, and went away relatively fast. I did this once or twice a week, along with using a grapeseed oil pre-cleanse, baking soda + cetaphil, and yogurt based masks. It had been a month, and my skin improved a lot, especially due to the yogurt, in fact I was cleared up with just scars. I hadn't been steaming as much, but the other day after an especially long work day, feeling like my face was especially grimey, I did a steam.
Oh my lord, I could cry. Two huge cystic pimples emerged, and a handful of small pimples that seemed like they WOULD extract, but didn't. All the progress I had made went down the drain. While the rest of my face is in tact, my chin is an inflamed and painful mess.
There might be other factors. I just started up on my birth control again. I went tanning for the first time in awhile the day before (which has never exacerbated my acne, sometimes it seemed to improve it). But my skin started reacting badly the very next morning after steaming. Part of me wants to try it again because of all the good reviews, but I don't think I could take it if it got worse. I feel like an insecure awkward high school freshmen again =(.
Is anyone else getting awful results from this? I know steaming "purges" your skin, but it doesn't ever seem to end. It seems like steaming just speeds up potential breakouts.

I steamed once every other day for a week and my face got really bad. I'm almost 100% sure it was the steaming.
The plus side is that now that those breakouts are gone, I'm not getting any more. (maybe 1 or 2)
Just be very careful with steaming as it is pretty harsh on your skin. I agree with the post above that it could just speed up the breakouts that are wantin to come to the surface. If you have anything important to do in the next few days, DONT STEAM or else all your breakouts will appear at the same time.
1ce a week AT MOST!

I steam about every 2-3 days depending on my skin. At first i was kinda nervous, cause it broke me out a little more than i was used to. But then its brought pretty much everything up to the surface. Its reduced to blotchy tone of my skin, made it glow and it really helping my mild acne! Love it!
i steam with a honey mask on (just plain honey and the steam melts most of it into my skin)
And Betsy91, it depends seen as hot water is pretty drying. i wouldn't reccomend doing it every day start with a few times a week and see how you go. Maybe every 2 days is best.

That is so sad... I hope she is alive. Whether or not steaming helps acne, it was such a glowing enthusiastic post coming from someone who was clearly full of life and wanting to help others.
At first I thought there is no way in this day and age, a 13 year old could die from kidney disease? But according to wikipedia prognosis can be grim if it isn't caught early. Drugs, dialysis and transplants can help, so hopefully she is still doing ok, maybe her acne cleared up or she was busy with her issues.

1. Apply ice to the pimples few times a day. This will reduce the swelling and will try to make the pimple less noticeable.
2. Toothpaste does apply to the pimple which again cuts down on swelling and helps you to eliminate pimples the next morning.
3. Drink a great deal of water. This facilitates removal of toxins from body.
4. Try in order to avoid junk food and also eatables containing excess sugar and vegetable oil.
5. Another way to get rid of pimples will be the use of garlic. Massage the garlic on the face few times every day for about a week.
6. The best away to get rid of pimples is usually to eliminate stress. Once stress level fails its easier to eliminate pimples fast.
7. Regions which might be prone to pimples should be washed with a cleanser twice a day.
8. Avoid oil based moisturizers and makeup.
9. Consult a dermatologist and have them for a pimple cream.
10. Sleep well in the night as it strengthens the immune system to fight off bacteria along with other infection.
