how many of you have experienced the "red face" effect of accutane? does flushing always come with accutane and will it go away after going off the drug?

i am wondering if drinking makes it worse or eating spicy food, like Rosacea?

Hi Eric, I have this feeling, after talking to a professional, that drinking might lessen the efficacy of accutane, make it less effective.

I do know that I flush after imbibing...and it seems to make me break out too.

accutane may be a miracle drug but dont take it for granted, everyone has their acne problems start clearing at different times saywhat.gif some start clearing from day 1 and the more average would be 2-3 months in the treatment, which i would not like sad.gif majority of people start noticing big changes starting month 2-3 so dont be too hopeful that everything clears fast sideways.gif (im on 2nd course day 11 40 mg/day and im worse than before i started accutane ninja.gif ) the first month will be tough but after that everything should be alright eusa_dance.gif

I've been on accutne 4 times its worked in like a 5 days but the pimples always come back. I don't think theres a cure for pimples, but a lot of prayer

Yeah i started taking 80 mg of accutane on May 13th. When i started taking accutane my face was moderate with some red marks and some scaring.

Week 1- My scaring reformed itself and now looks only half as bad, Around Day 6 my face got really bad and i got about 7 huge whiteheads along my sideburn.

Around day 10 my face completley changed overnight, i woke up with dry skin and dry lips, a few days later all i have is dry skin with less than 10 small pimples, and my face is slightly red which actually covers up some of the pimples.

I am so excited that my initial break out(as bad as it was) went away in less than a week, I can't wait to continue accuatane throughout the summer as a get ready for college!!! biggrin.gif

my derm put me on 40 mg of amnesteen every other day (this is my 3rd course, my 2nd course was stopped due to a bad blood test). i'm quite small 5'2 105ish lbs. do you guys think that this dose for a few months will help "cure" my acne? or do all patients get bumped up to 80 mg eventually? in the past 40 mg every other day was enough to make me red, flakey, and dry.

I'm about the same as you, 5'1, 110 lbs, and this is day 32 of my second course of Accutane. My first course was 40 mg every day for 6 months and the only side effect I really had was dry lips. I was about 125ish at the time though, I can see that I get much more side effects this time than last time. The weight loss and taking the same dosage (I'm on 40 mg again) might have something to do with it, and also this course is during the summer while the other was in the winter so the sun might have to something to do with the dryness.

I'm in week 5 now and the initial breakout isn't all so bad. I get little red bumps over my mouth and along my hairline since the second week. I noticed that from day 1, my skin just stopped producing sebum and went from greasy all the time, to almost never. My face is never shiny at the end of the day, and I don't have to wash my hair almost every day because it got greasy so fast.

I didnt really get an initial breakout. If I did, it wasnt worse than anything I would have experienced without taking accutane. I started on 40mg a day and started to see results in about 2-3 weeks. By the time I went to see my derm for my next appointment I was pretty damn clear. Guess I was just lucky.

hey all,

just curious as to when people who started accuatne noticed that they were starting to clear what month, week day?

also when if you got the initial breakout did that happen?

i have bene on tane for nearly 5 weeks and havent noticed much happening, so am definitely interested in hearing when others started to clear.

Cheers

Hi! I am starting my 6th month on accutane, almost finished up. I never really got a bad breakout and I started seeing results after about 2.5 weeks. My doctor says everyone responds differently, thats why I have to do an extra month so I hope this helps you. Good luck, your skin will dry out ALOT, go buy some good lotion!!

Im on my third day, and I noticed my face was drier by the second day and it seemed to be a little clearer. A few new pimples popped up on only one side of my face, but the other side is almost perfectly clear unlike it has ever before. I am kind of skeptical that the accutane is working this fast, but its kinda hard to argue against results. Maybe its just coincidence. I am praying that this little eruption is the initial breakout. *fingers crossed*

I'm on day 36. The first week I was on it my face was clear for the most part. Week two I started noticing dry lips, skin and scalp. Then I started breaking out. I think that we break out more to get everything out from under the skin. So right now I am around week 6. My breakouts are mostly around my temple and down my jaw line. My forehead is clear along with my nose and the skin under my eyes. I have a lot of red scars that look like acne without my make up on. So with make up it doesn't look so bad. The only bad thing about make up, it makes my flakes of skin peeling more noticeable. But who said life with Accutane was going to be easy? My doctor told me I wouldn't see results until week 12. So I am half way to that point. The only side effects I have right now is dryness (of course) of the skin, lips and scalp. Which means I don't have to wash my hair as much! And lower back pain. The pain pain is killer at times when I lay down and when I bend down its hard to get back up. I'm very excited to see results. GOOD LUCK AND STICK WITH IT! (:

Honestly, at first (30 days at 20 mg/day) I got a pretty bad breakout. It was strange, I kept getting acne, but the acne I had from before the isotretinoin seemed to be being affected/healed more quickly by the medication. Maybe it was just those zits' time to heal, I dunno. However, I started REALLY clearing about 5-6 weeks into the course, after starting 40 mg/day. Then after like 2-3 weeks of 40 mg/day (so maybe 8 weeks in) acne was pretty much... gone. Yes, my acne was/is cystic. Yes, you'll deal with the FRICKIN SANDPAPER LIPS! oh yay eusa_dance.gif ...but heh, oh well, it really seems to be worth it. I use the ChapStick Moisturizer blue tube... I think maybe I should try Aquaphor too... Weird though, I still get some acne (though less than was there before) on my ears/earlobes/back of jaw area, of all places... is blood flow right on the ears naturally sort of slow? It might make sense since that skin lies right on bone... I dunno. lol

Good luck! If it seems to be working for me, I bet it'll work for you too.

I'm on 80mg's a day and this is my 5th week on Accutane and i think my initial breakout just stopped (hopefully) I have dealt with 5 straight weeks of huge cysts and zits and closed comedones all over my cheeks, jawline and chin... I feel like my acne is so much different than everyone elses though... Because i have 100's of tiny little bumps over my face, around mouth, chin, upper cheeks... it really sucks.. but maybe accutane will start doing its thing soon :/

I had my IB between weeks 2-3 when I started my course... it felt like forever and took a while to completely subside- my picking made it WORSE eusa_hand.gif I'm in month 2 and FINALLY seeing results... only 2 actives right now but they're small.

These headaches are brutal though sad.gif Is it true that you should avoid Tylenol when on Tane? Cause the headaches seem to be getting worse....

I've been on 40mg/day for a month now. Nothing too major, breakout severity can be as bad as pre accutane but there are at least periods where there a very few active spots. I don't even know if I passed the initial breakout or not because I noticed no massive crazy breakout yet but its past 1 month so I really hope nothing would suprise me. When people up their doses, do they get more breakouts again or? (I may be going to 80mg/day after next derm visit)
